Deep Carry Clips Suck

Deep clips are useful in some work environments. Other than that, I really like a lanyard, as it helps me draw that sucker. I am not worried about the lanyard catching on anything, although it could happen. It doesn't stop me from carrying a $400 folder.

Practice makes perfect. Well not all the time but it makes things easier. The more you actually use the knife the more you actually pull it from pocket. The easier it becomes to draw from the pocket.
Is a Non shallow clip easier to pull? yes but I agree practice does make perfect. Example

I have deep carry clips on all my blades I take out in the "public".
With a deep clip, most people won't know what I have.
As to drawing the blade from my pocket, it is very easy, in my view.
I would not judge anyone for however they carry or what they buy.
As it has been said, "To each their own".

Don't know why so many here lust over deep carry clips, just makes it harder to draw the knife. Seems like a marketing gimmick to paranoid knife knuts.

Not a big fan off DC clips myself, though they have their place, and suit some folders well.

For example, I really like the clip that came on my 0562.

And the Manix XL needs one (to me) for 2 reasons, it carries better - the standard clip has the knife riding too high for my liking.
And it's great to grip with the fingers for one hand closing with that big handle.
And perhaps you can see, the 'harder to draw' comment is baseless in this instance (and generally IMO).

Personally not in the habit of changing my knife clips to DC but people should buy, what ever they want for their dough, even if Im not a fan.

On some knives, DC seems counterproductive. I bought a Yo2, which came with a DC clip; why one would equip a SD knife with a DC clip is beyond me but then I dont carry a knife for SD hence shouldnt really care one way or the other.
I yanked the DC clip anyway and also exchanged the scales (coyote instead of black G10). It makes for a fine cardboard killer, which is fairly easy to get out of the pocket.

Edit; added pic of aforementioned knife. Yo2 with coyote scales instead of black and 'bronze' MXG Gear titanium clip.

I've never had anyone notice my knife. Where are you located that it is a concern?

I have had some knives ride too high, maybe medium carry is what I'm looking for?

I don't understand why some folks complain about what other people carry.... Nothing more constructive to talk about I guess.
That's not what I said, people like differrent things, I'm asking why folks here are infatuated with DC clips. I also find it curious how members are sensitive about their knife preferences and what other members think of said preference.

If we all liked the same thing, what the hell would we talk about? Lol

Why do you think they suck? You didn’t give any explanation, just complained that other people like them. In some areas, you need them to keep from “open carrying” a knife.
Yes I did. open carry?! Where, Peoples Republik of New Jersey? New York?

I kinda like them on some knives!! Great when ya don't want to advertise your carry!!:p

In some states like New York, New Jersey, and even Ohio, deep carry clips keep the knife low enough in a pocket to not count as “open carry”. Open carrying a knife in some areas is a crime.

I rechecked and did see why you don’t like deep carry clips. I have had several and never had an issue drawing a knife, but then again I was never a high speed, low drag operator so I didn’t matter since I use my knives to cut apples and open boxes. I personally don’t care one way or another.

I’m not a fan of deep carry clips because they usually create hot spots when using the knife. My fingers are like alligator skin, but the heel of my palm is sensitive to poking by clips and sharp corners. I’m also not worried about trying to conceal my knife.

I think many knife-nuts lust over deep carry clips because most knives don’t come with them. When knife blades were thin we lusted after thick heavy use blades. Now we seek the unicorn knife with a slicey blade. Four years ago it wouldn’t sell without titanium or a flipper and now blade enthusiast want something different. A big part of this knife-nut deal is the hunt for the perfect _____ (insert random rare knife feature here).

Ultimately, I think we should all buy whatever we like and works for us.

Only you didn't say infatuated, you said lust and you called everyone who had a deep carry clip a paranoid knife knut. Curious to how other members are sensitive? You were the one that started this whole thing about pocket clip preferences! It's no more difficult to draw a deep ride clip than a non-deep-ride clip. Geez, it's just a pocket clip! Carry what you like and who cares what everybody else does!

Happy New Year!

Deep carry is the only way I can carry a knife in a chest pocket with a flap when wearing coveralls. And I like deep carry in pants pockets because it protects the knife more.

EDIT- Yes, I do need to shave, Yes, I do own stock in Dickies. Yes, I am a knife knut but don't consider myself paranoid.

I guess a deep carry clip might slow things down a bit, but I like them because I'm kinda a "grey man" type.
If I need to draw something quick, my first choice isn't going to be my knife ;)

I'm happy with any pocket clip on a folder. I dont care or prefer one over the other. I'm not that picky other than i like to carry bigger folders clipped instead of banging around flat in a pocket.

Same here. Either way is fine. I live in the eastern side of WA state and most people carry pocket knives. Wasn't that long ago people carried their rifles in a rack in the back window,

Kids used to carry their shotguns and rifles in their gun racks to high school so we could go hunt after school. That would get SWAT called on you nowadays....

I like a deep carry for the office environment, and a little more knife protrusion for work days outside where I will be grabbing at the knife more often.

I find that the ease of draw has more to do with the texture of the scale, and the deep carry clips tend to have more room between the clip and the scale than the "stock" type clips such as on Spyderco and Emerson knives - which can grab onto a pair of firehose pants pretty convincingly.

Not sure if he is still around, but STR used to make some great anodized pocket clips - still have one of his deep carry clips on a BM mini-grip - never have a problem pulling that out of my pocket, or putting it back into my pocket.

best
