Deep Carry Clips Suck

...I think those of you relying on a deep carry clip to keep your knife concealed are really overestimating its effectiveness. I can see it maybe in an office environment where you want to keep a lower profile around co-workers. But anyone specifically tasked with spotting knives, such as LEO or security personnel, are going to question any kind of visible pocket clip whether there is a portion of knife visible or not...

I work in a health care setting so I am in an clinic/office setting. The doctors don't really care what I use but I like to keep a low profile with the knives that I carry. The last thing I want is a patient to stress out or have a staff member spin up over nothing. So, no auto or assisted knives. No serrations or anything like that. Blades with black finishes are out. So are lanyards, beads, skulls, or anything that is not plain looking. Nothing from Cold Steel, ever. A Vic SAK works well but my preference is for something a little more modern. Hence, a modern knife with a low profile, deep carry clip. I have found it is better to use a deep carry clip than to have the knife drop to the floor when I reach for my keys. Most people think I have a pen clipped to my pocket, anyway. Including some LEO and security personnel.

I prefer standard-carry clips, I think they are slightly easier to get out of my pocket, especially with gloves on.

I don't tuck my shirt in so the top of my pocket is rarely visible anyway due to my shirt or jacket it covering it. What is visible is the clip. A black clip is much less conspicuous than a shiny silver one and I think that lends much more to the "stealth" aspect of knife carrying than a DC clip. A pocket clip means a knife to most people that see it, unless its very thin and pen-like, or in a breast pocket.

o_O I'm trying to understand how a DC clip helps much in being low profile or concealed . If the clip is still in view and contrasting with clothing enough to be noticeable , then aren't most people who might be concerned about a knife still gonna assume it's a knife ? (Legality aside )

In my experience, a deep carry clip makes the knife way less noticeable than a standard clip. Yes, if the clip doesn't blend in with your pants it's still pretty visible, but as long as it does, most folks will never notice it. I don't want a polished or silver clip for that very reason, it's too noticeable.

I've been turned around at the movie theater, twice if my memory is right, because the ticket taker spotted a non-deep carry pocket knife sticking up out of my pocket. "No weapons allowed". I get it. I'm not carrying it as a weapon, but, I get it. So I had to go back out to the car and leave it there. That's annoying. And I'm in middle GA, it's deep red here, not 'libtard central'.

So for me personally, deep carry is a requirement. It's more discreet, I like that.

I added a deep carry clip to my Leek. With dark colored pants, it's essentially invisible.

My new Bugout came with a deep carry clip, but I wish it was a bit more deep-carry, a tiny bit of the knife still sticks up out of your pocket. Due to the color of the knife and the clip it's actually less noticeable with lighter colored pants.
