DEER SEASON REPORT.................How did everyone do?

Thank you--we're at about 7300 ft. elevation in the Sacramento Mtns. We really enjoy it here.

Eleven years of waiting but it finally happened. This is my first deer with a bow. Its kind of a crazy story so here goes.
I was walking out to my stand, he jumped up about 40 yrds in front of me. I stopped dead in my tracks thinking my hunt was over. To my surprise he started walking towards me. As he walked by me at about 15 yrds, he dropped his head and I drew back. It was very thick overgrown brush with very limited places to shoot. He lifted his head and took three more steps and stopped in the only place where I had a clear shot. So I took it without hesitation. He ran about 50 yrds and dropped.

Having been there I can vouch for the very thick brush. Not sure how you got him to stop in the one clear lane on the entire place. I guess when something is meant to happen the stars align. Congrats Bro I am glad I was able to share the experience with you.

Thought I'd share a little of my morning with you guys. Just took this shot out my office window about 20 minutes ago.

Holy Crap. What an amazing place you live in. If heaven ain't alot like Will's back yard I don't want to go.

T- I have to admit that you have a beautiful rack my friend. :p
Will- That must be an amazing site to see. I got about 50 yrds from an Elk once. Then it walked to the other side of the farm. :(

Nice pic Will. I think I'm ready to move to NM. How's the job market out there.

Sweet shot one the elk.
Congrats on the first bow kill. It seems like it takes forever to get the first one, then the pressure is off and you become a better hunter as experience grows. the second one will seem so easy now. Just IMO
Season was very slow for us. My buddies son shot a nice older buck 118 I believe was net score 6 1/2 yrs old. All other bucks were wither not old enough or if they were old enough,(5 1/2) did not have a decent rack and we have found in our area they make a big jump in rack size between 4 1/2 to 6 1/2 so we let them walk. Shot nothing but a doe this year for freezer meat. Rifle is over and only 1 week left for muzzleloader. Then it is hitting the hogs hard. Have a bunch of hunters coming in Feb for hog hunts so I'll post pics as they are all wanting to play with their new SCAR's and are taking a combat shooting class together the week prior to the hunt.
Beer, AR's and hogs.......... hoping to let them try out my CABS on the hogs to get them hooked on INFI. Last time one tried to clean a 125lb sow with a SAK. It will do it but it is at minimumm 3 beer process where the CABS is only 1 beverage of choice...

Actually not so bad. We're in the 6% unemployment range.

Those bulls aren't fighting, by the way--long past the rut. They were together with no cows around, just passing through. I think when they get close to losing their antlers this time of year, it feels good to work them--kind of like scratching an itch. You can tell from their postures they're not really bent on hurting each other.

Yes Sir, nice shots Will!!! I remember the Wheeler Peak area very well. Use to work in Red River a long time back.

Will,

I wish I could get pics like that out my window. You live in the closest thing to paradise I think I have ever seen.
