Deja Vu all over Again!!

Thanks Charlie! I think my jigging is bolder but close. Needs the fluting on the bolster once pinned. That will be a different process for me because I usually do the fluting before assembly. This knife has the pin located inside the fluting area. I'm hoping the pin doesn't show up after I file it.
Most fluted/rattailed knives telegraph the pin, old or new!
And I enjoy seeing the artists fingerprints/character on a knife!!
The main thing is you are doing an incredible Sheffield-like job!!
There's no doubt that is "flat-cap" jigging!!

I get that you can’t peen the pin inside the fluting, but I don’t understand how you can do the fluting on top of the pin without filing away the part of the pin that you peened. Then again, there are a lot of things I don’t understand about knife making. 😁

I normally do it before soldering. That way when I screw up, I don't waste a liner and the soldering process.
You are very gifted sir.
Thank you for showing the WIP pictures too. 😀
Your knives are fantastic Mark! I love that fish bone. Do you stamp that?

If the pin hole is reamed with a slight taper, when the pin is hammered straight down, the pin expands into the hole. Then the head can be filed flush and hopefully has expanded enough to be hidden after fluting. We shall see

Thank you sir! Yes I bought a stamping press for the fish bolster stamp and I have a couple old Pantagraph machines to make stamps. If you need any stamps I can make them for you.
Thanks

That makes sense. I didn’t realize the pin hole was tapered. I’m sure it will work just as planned 👍

It’s so awesome to see someone with an old pattern and the desire to resurrect it, working with someone who has the skills and desire to make it happen.

The photo stencil test worked!! I do use stencils for my makers mark but never made one myself, so this is cool. The etching is getting better with practice 😅 Dip Dip Shananana

Almost finished.
Etching worked out really well. These have hammered pins like the original, fluting went perfectly and the pin is hidden!!

Fantastic work  I like the font you've used for the etch :) If any of these knives are found a few hundred years from now, there are going to be some very confused archeologists! :D

Tough knife to date!!! 🤣

I love old knives, and watching an old pattern be recreated gives me goose bumps for so many reasons!!
The designs are so intensely relevant to the times, and uses when they were created!!
I wonder if the "Mall Ninja" style of "Black Knife" will ever excite collectors, 100 years from now!!?? 🤔

Rhidian, Those are looking outstanding!!! The resurrection could not have been carried out any better- I am loving the Bolster Work, the etching is very tidy, the complete Knife as a whole from what we can see up to this point is amazing!

To you both Rhidian and Charlie- a MASSIVE Thank you Gentleman for putting your heads together and creating this pattern to be in existence again! Just WOW factor!!!

Simply amazing! You could make a hundred of these and I am sure they would sell out almost instantly. I t has been a fun ride following this thread and seeing the culmination of this resurrected pattern. I am in awe of your talents in knife making.

An hundred? I suspect 1000 would still be insufficient :D and yet the exclusivity of it would still be undiminished:cool:
