Deja Vu all over Again!!

I guess these poor sheep become eunuchs 🤣 (had to check the spelling on that one) EWE-NUCHs or EWE-NICKED or MUTTON CUTTIN'
Here's more progress
One difference on these will be the mill relieved liners, although with brass it's not all that necessary, more cosmetic.
Tinning and soldering the bolsters now

Thanks John :)

I knew I'd seen that pattern before, and actually I think I've seen more than one. It's a Sheep Castrator (see top left)

Edit - I noticed I'd previously cropped the image, so I must have posted it in another discussion, perhaps in the Guardians thread?

This changes everything!! Nice find, Jack!! The blade does have a slight Distal taper. (like a lambfoot)

SHEEP'S LAST DIP 🤣

Very interesting, Jack! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:
The name is very specific; that's definitely a purpose-driven knife.

How about 'Cobblers Knife' for the etch, from the old rhyming slang 'cobblers' awls' ?! ;) :D

SHEEP'S LAST DIP 🤣
I like that "Sheep's Last Dip" a lot as an etch, Charlie! 😁
But if it's specifically for castrating, you could be more specific, and use terms applied to male sheep:

RAM'S LAST DIP
TUP'S LAST TUP
WETHER OR NOT?? (I'm kinda partial to this one! šŸ¤“

Nice find ! I thought it looked like a castrstor knife. After I posted that above I searched ā€œvintage Sheffield castrating knife’ but didn’t find it.

WETHER OR NOT is way cool; but I think it's a little too obscure for the vernacular.
Decisions, decisions . . . . . . . . . . . .

Great find Jack, always can we count on Jack to get these Sheffield Mysteries solved!

Rhidian- those wip shots are fascinating to view- thank you for taking the time to share your amazing work!

Charlie- Thank you for getting this Thread Started and a massive thank you for the resurrection of this great Knife!

resurrection of this great Knife!
I'm very fond of knives designed for specific work!!
Budding and Grafting, Electrician's, Harness Jacks come to mind! This one, grisly as it may be considered, is just so beautiful; I am so gratified that Rhidian took it on!
The icing, on the cake is the discovery, that it is, indeed, very specifically designed!!!

Looks to me like the blade shape would make a good castrating knife. The ā€œSterilizerā€?
First Sacto came up with this (out of left field??), and then Jack Black Jack Black came up with the clincher; the actual pattern in print!!
From YOUNG'S SHEEP DIPS, to SHEEP'S LAST DIP gets to the history, and the ridiculous humor I've been looking for!!
