Deja Vu all over Again!!

Rhidian Rhidian and Charlie
Thank you so very much for getting together to make these fantastic Knives!

Outstanding in everyway, the Quality of this Knife is unreal, I absolutely love it! The Workmanship is extremely High Quality and I feel honoured to own this wonderful piece ....
What they said above me Duncan. That has to be one of the coolest sweetest knives I've ever seen my friend. I might carry it but I'd guard it with my life. If anyone should have it along with Charlie you DA MAN TO HAVE IT. Congratulations brother.

Thank you for the kind words Harry and Mark and Dwight ( made me laugh matey ).

I appreciate them so much, truth be told there are so so many people here who deserve this and more-
The last couple of years I haven’t had the time to really dedicate myself here and I’m a bit ashamed of that - but if life works out ok - I should have a bit more soonish. 😊👍

Not only do so want to thank Rhidian again, but also Charlie- he does so much to help others, and also all of the Traditional gang - and you all know who you are.

Thank you to absolutely everyone in Traditionals- and to our cool mods - Their work is so important and they do it well.

How about another WIP?
I'm making a Barlow with a "Long Beak" blade for a longtime BF member in France, with the design guidance of Mr. Campagna. Here are some progress pics. This will be similar to the GEC Ancient barlows with long beak blades inspired by the third from top knife in this photo of Charlie's collection. The knife will be a little bigger at 3 & 3/4" closed, ebony covers & A2 high carbon tool steel.

I draw my pattern on the computer. Decided to go with a stove pipe kick instead

After heat treat, fine tuning and liner fit up so everything is flush

Incredible! 😎 Do you mean 'Short Beak'? 😁👍

Now that we have the name of the blade cleared up, let's get down to the real issue here!!
Rhidian has agreed to do a riff on my older "Ancient" Barlow design!! I am honored that one of my Barlows has received so much love over the years!! Ancient Spectrum 2.jpgMike maybe 1.jpgMike maybe 3.jpg
On the GEC produced knives, the one thing I would have changed, would be the
kick - to a stovepipe!! I am happy to see Rhidian has done the change!!
The idea I had was to produce the knife as the early Barlows had been done - cheaply produced, and sketchily finished - not so appropriate in a modern custom knife!!
But we will see what the artist conceives in this one!!

Not the same Ancient that waynorth waynorth is showing, but to show my appreciation for his SFOs...

This custom run is going to be epic!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Yes, more pictures please!

Thanks I thought it was asked for an idea for an etch and someone was chosen.
No, there was a bit more to it than that (this thread has veered way off its original course!) :D Goes all the way back to when Charlie's first Ancient Barlow run was in the pipeline, but as yet unannounced. Charlie asked if I knew what the blade was called, and I set off to find out. Took longer than I'd anticipated! :D

It was an incredibly imaginative project, very bold, but the stovepipe kick will be the icing on the cake
"SHORT BEAK" !
Thanks again for all the research, Jack!! A noble quest in my book!!
(Even though I muffed it!!) 😲
I thought I'd better correct the name before it passed into usage Charlie! :D ;) Thank you for these wonderful knives my friend :)

Thank you for the reply, I am clearly way out of my depth and struggling to understand.

I searched for stovepipe kick but all the photos have gone so have no idea what it is, further google turns up spyderco.

Its all quite amazing,I missed one bit.

Who was the genius came up with the final etch name?
Johnny, I don't think folks understand that your question refers to the original knife in this thread, not the recent Barlow WIP.
Here's part of the original post in the thread, with a couple of relevant sentences in boldface.

...
There is an etch, "Young's Sheep Dips"!! I'd like to put a similarly-'flavored' etch, on the reproduction, and would like some inspiration from my peers here, if You'All are willing!!
"CHARLIE'S FOLLY"
...
Poor examples, but I hope you get the idea!
Here's the best part!! If i use your etch idea, I will send you a nice Knife!!
A surprise worth your while, I guarantee!!
Please just put one or two in each post - don't flood me out!!
I hope this is fun for you!!

Actually this is a GA of sorts!! Ha Ha!!
...
If I understand Johnny's question, he's asking who actually came up with the etch that was used on that original knife (and won a knife, as per the preceding quoted post).
And I think the answer is in this post.
First Sacto came up with this (out of left field??), and then Jack Black Jack Black came up with the clincher; the actual pattern in print!!
From YOUNG'S SHEEP DIPS, to SHEEP'S LAST DIP gets to the history, and the ridiculous humor I've been looking for!!
I think Charlie came up with the final etch himself, once he knew the blade shape was known as a castrator blade!
