Deja Vu all over Again!!

Johnny, I don't think folks understand that your question refers to the original knife in this thread, not the recent Barlow WIP.
Here's part of the original post in the thread, with a couple of relevant sentences in boldface.

If I understand Johnny's question, he's asking who actually came up with the etch that was used on that original knife (and won a knife, as per the preceding quoted post).
And I think the answer is in this post.

I think Charlie came up with the final etch himself, once he knew the blade shape was known as a castrator blade!

Thank you that was what I was asking, now it is all clear.

I had been mulling over names in my head myself.

like "True north" and combinations of the 2 names on the project.

Thank you for the reply, I am clearly way out of my depth and struggling to understand.

I searched for stovepipe kick but all the photos have gone so have no idea what it is, further google turns up spyderco.

Sorry for all the confusion! Johnny, a stove-pipe kick is sometimes called a top hat kick. I'm sure you can see why

Goes all the way back to when Charlie's first Ancient Barlow run was in the pipeline, but as yet unannounced. Charlie asked if I knew what the blade was called, and I set off to find out. Took longer than I'd anticipated! :D
Great recap, Jack!! You were a huge influence in me getting that project done!!👍

This is a great project AND this is also a great occasion to tell the whole story to those who arrived after this golden era. 😭 😭😭

PS : let's dream that a member of GEC read this thread and think it could be a great idea to make another run of Ancients,
Going on this dream I can imagine a double blade with this one and a pen, a bone or an ebony handle .... 😍😍 😍

No Knife before its time!!😊
Thanks for showing us the progress!! They are looking great!!

I first learned of the beauty of Macassar Ebony when Bill put some on my Barlows, 'lo those many years ago!!View attachment 1911693View attachment 1911695
Definitely an underrated wood. With great variation. There are some beautiful examples from brown to pitch black and light tones in between. That particular Barlow is a prime specimen 👍🏼

Looking great Rhidian Rhidian !!
