Destructive Knife Testing Videos???. . . . Oh Yeah!!!

I could always post more vids of me totally kicking butt on some cardboard with my AK! Just to tide us all over. ;)

Jerry! Where's the freaking destruction and carnage?!?!?!?! I wanna see somebody break some blades!!!!!

I humbly request that neither you nor Garth wear slasher movie masks and jump suits in the videos, I am still working on getting thos eimages out of my head.

Lets get Jerry a bottle of JWB, and a video camera (both of which I'm sure he already has) and get a little action in here. I wan't to see some killer streaming video.:D

Bring on the vids.....I need something to watch while I drink tonight.

The popularity of recent knife test videos that have been published on the Internet has led us to announce that Busse Combat, along with Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard will be publishing destructive test videos of our blades on youtube.com in the near future.

We have played our destructive test videos at shows since 1992 and used to have very short, grainy clips on our old website. It seems that youtube.com offers some really great advantages as far as hosting and quality is concerned. We have done destructive testing in “Live” demos at shows for several years now, but only those who have attended these shows have had the opportunity to view the destruction... . .

So pop some popcorn boys. . . the movies will soon begin!!!

We also hope to publish some other very extensive testing on different steels in the exact same blade configurations and edge bevels for comparative purposes. This will be more structured and repeatable in order to bring you the fairest comparisons possible.

Please offer up some ideas of what you would like to see and we'll see what we can do!

Nuke on my wayward HOGs!!!!:D

Jerry

.
Jerry,
I would like to see an email from Amy-O regarding my score at Ganzaaaa! :D You tube sounds great, Orville Redenbachers sitting beside the microwave ;)

-card board
-manila rope
-with taped off section
-2x4s
-vise test
-skull crusher pommel used to break glass
-paper to prove edge retention
-corrosion resistance
-cut dummies with ak (on second thought that would make it too mall ninja-ee)
-cut feather sticks and tomatoes to prove that they are still precision slicers
-have fun doing it!

I cant wait!

Destruction ideas...I would love to see:
1. maximum flex in a vise that can be applied without permanently bending the knife
2. maximum prying ability, i.e. can you use it like a crowbar?
3. maximum amount of weight that you can apply to a blade in a vise before it would flex
4. hardest object you could cut without damaging the blade

All of these would help me understand how far I could push a Busse blade without having to resort to the lifetime warranty. :p

Get a professional lumberjack and have him chop through some really big logs..

Get some bones and some ballistics gel and go "mythbusting"..

Get a fireman and extract someone from a crashed car..

Get a hunter and chop through an elk or two..

Get a doctor and have him simulate surgery with a skelly key..

Get some Cold Steel knives and kill them..

I agree with all of that but the Ballistics gel and bones. Bones yes, but just hang up a large pig and chop the hell out of it. I find that ballistics gel, while it might work for bullets, does not cut the same as flesh......it seem to bind or have way too much surface tension. It seems like it grabs the blade. A sharp knife will slice through yards of meat in one hard swing, but barely any balistics gel. So hang up a pig or goat and cut away (maybe put a jacket and shirt on it). ........................................................................................................OH, ya, and you absolutely need a balding chubby man with tight shorts (or tighter dress pants and a tucked in too tight shirt)........................................................................................................I would volunteer for that. After all, I am chubby and balding, but maybe I am not short enough.

Do any of you realize that video is almost worthless without comparison knives. As much as it is uncool to put comparison knives, if you really wanna know how well a test resulted, you have to have comparison knives. Otherwise, tests are meaningless. The FFD2 tests are a perfect example of this. The compared D2 to lesser D2, but not to high quality steels. Again, compare best to best at the same time as testing at different times will net different results. I have seen Nozz hit knives with std hammers and with 3 lb hammers. A little bit of a difference in impact there huh:rolleyes:

So unless you are willing to get 4 or 5 known brands for comparison purposes, these tests are meaningless. Wanna do a comparison test: Get a Busse, Fehrman, Cold Steel, Strider, and a custom out of 5160, then compare them. These are known quantities and at least will provide meaningfull data.

Who cares about comparison tests. We just wanna see some stuff cut up with knives.;):D

we absolutely need a comparison, other than destroying things with these knives, it should also show how easy it is to bring it back to a razor sharpness.

1095 should be compared too, as everybody knows about the kabar
S30V is pretty popular now
CPM 10V for wear resistance (although i think it could take on CPM 15V)
and one more for edge stability...

Cobalt:I have begin to only use the 3lb steel mallet on the the last 4 or so tests. This is the only one used from now on as stated in my testing outline on the site.
