Dick Cheney Asks Harry Reid To Quail Hunt

I grew up hunting in Illinois in the 50's with my Dad, it was later that I understood why he never invited anyone else to go along!
Two tours in Vietnam presented several opprotunities for "accidents" but training and alertness prevented me from shooting anyone, at lest by accident. I believe a Hunter Safety course is a good idea.

So don't go hunting with the VEEP or takin' car rides with Ted Kennedy.

("Jacking" is shooting FROM a vehicle. A local idjet was stopped at a stop sign last week when he saw a large buck standing by the side of the road to his right. He slowly rasied his 30-30 and fired. That's right, his passenger window was up. He missed. A witness turned in his plate number for hunting out of season and jackin'. Idjet. )

Hunting accidents are inexcusable. Too many happen...

I've heard of dogs catching a few birdshot, but this guy was "peppered pretty well." Seeing as how it was a 28 gauge, Cheny must have pointed right at him, somehow. There isn't all that much shot in a 28 gauge... well, more than a .410 and less than a 20. Still, he didn't just catch one or two.

Wonder what size shot? 8's?

Just for the record, the four rules for safe gun handling are:

1. All guns are loaded all the time.

2. Never point a gun at anything you are not willing to destroy.

3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.

4. Be sure of your target and what's behind it.

I like this version of the safety rules because it is concise and even I can actually remember all of them. I've seen lists of 12 or more rules for gun safety that are utterly useless because everyone glazes over before they even finish reading them.

We are prepared for that in WV!

The DNR has a robotic deer they use to catch road hunters!

bwray: Those rules are frequently quoted in gun-safety threads. And should be.

I cringe every time I see a TV cop running after a perp, gun drawn, finger on trigger. Once (NYPD Blue? Law & Order? Don't remember) there was a TV cop "cleaning" his pistol while having a conversation at his desk. This amounted to rubbing the outside of it with a cloth, finger curled around trigger. Grrr. It's like we're TRAINING people to be unsafe.

Bwray, more and more I find myself looking forward to your posts.

Hollywood is terrible. Our "hero's" brandish weapns every movie. As much as I love Mel Gibson, I cannot bring myself to watch his three movies as a detective. The writers for the Hollywood left actually seem to write into scripts the kind of behavior with a firearm they think would happen if we were all 'allowed' guns. It is embarressing, and the kind of fantasy fulfillment it indicates from both the authors and intended audience is beyond embarressing into shameful and juvenile. Truly worthless and unimportant thought processes that stagger one if approached sober, or over the age of 12.

FallingKnife, sometimes you even have to cringe at the pistol range. I was taking an IPSC course once when "WHAM" the guy beside me discharged his weapon for no apparant reason. When the instructor asked what had happened the guy said he wasn't sure whether or not the safety was on so he pulled the trigger to see. I made sure he was not beside me in future drills.:jerkit:

Munk,

Interesting you mention that. I think that movies etc, have been the main driving force behind the popularity of badass guns.

Dirty Harry virtually tripled the value of the S and W 44. John Wayne had a movie that popularized the Mac 10 etc.

Seemed to me that prior to a lot of those movies the military guns people used in the movies were really military guns. Now we have so many guns that are not meant for sporting purposes or even really for self defense but just to look badass. I'm not for really rounding them up or anything but I know what you mean.

"Badass": one who holds a handgun rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise when aiming or firing same. See "Idget."

Thanks munk, I enjoy yours as well. You've got definite opinions, which means you're interesting to read, but are always willing to hear the other side of every issue.

Hi Tom:

I don't know if you have heard, but Jaques Costeau has died.

His submarine hit Ted Kennady's car.

I still feel bad for the lawyer. Considering all the Republican political figures Cheney has hunted with, you can quite literally say it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Having been "accidently flanked" by my own agents, eager to get to their assigned objectives during raids, I can sympathize with Cheney. Although I never shot one of my own during a raid, I have been present for several cop shoots cop incidents....all three in Detroit. In two instances, two different agencies ahowed up at the same location completely unaware of the arrival of more cops. In two of the cases, good cops died, and one of the shooters was medically retired soon after (nerves completely shot, no pun intended). For the record, I would go bird hunting with Cheney tomorrow. That was an accident pure and simple...I would even invite my son along. That's how sure I am.

(NOT me in pic btw)

Did you hear that S&W is going to make a new "badass gun" with the sights mounted on the right side of the barrel?
