Dick Cheney Asks Harry Reid To Quail Hunt

True enough. I dont condone driving intoxicated, not at all, but I too have. Doesn't say much.

Then again, how many times driving intoxicated does it take to get caught twice ;)

"Hey Ted," VP Dick Cheney says to Senator Kennedy, "Let's let bygones be bygones. How about going Quail Hunting with me?"
"I'll drive," says Ted Kennedy.
"I'll ride shotgun," answers Dick.

Perfect!

Hollow? You ever drive a vehicle while intoxicated on any substance in your life? I have.

Yes. In fact I saw an interesting article once by a person who claimed to know the true story behind the Ted Kennedy thing, that really made a lot of sense to me.

In this article it said that Kennedy and the rest had gone to there to go on their first acid trip. That the girl, I won't even try to spell her name, but she started freaking out badly and that Teddy, trying to be the gentleman offered to take her home, but he wasn't thinking and was too twisted to drive, and ended up wrecking, getting out and then the long period between the accident and his reporting was because he was still all tripped out.

Made a bit more sense than the alcohol thing cause you'd have to figure that he would be able to hold his liquor better than that.

Of course my point was that Kennedy's episode wasn't really relevant to the Cheney thing because it happened so long ago.

How many Republicans does it take to change a light bulb?

(None. Republicans are too busy to change light bulbs. They're still talking about Chappaquidik.):D

Liberals? A village - plus one to explain who's to blame for the bulb burning put.

Conservatives? "Light bulb?"

How many Vice Presidents does it take to change a light bulb?

(Only one. But he's got to be able to spot a blaze orange vest at thirty paces to even realize it needs changing.):)

Girl's name: Mary Jo Kopeckne....

I worked at the same company as her father at that time.

Absolutely true. Senator Ted's driving is not relevant to this hunting accident.

So lets agree to stop talking about Dick's drunk driving 50+ years ago, George's substance abuse when young -- AND about Senator Robert's role as Grand Kleagle of the KKK when he was a young man, Senator Ted's cheating on tests in college, and Senator John calling our soldiers war criminals when he was young and impressed by Jane Fonda. The follies of youth.

Let's talk about how Cheney told the press to stuff it during Gulf I and how it's payback time -- big time! :D

You would think it was the second moon landing! The liberal press is having a field day, and I guess you can't blame them after being stymied for so many years in their attempts to get anything on Bush/Cheney that even remotely resembles "The Klinton Chronicles" and his subsequent impeachment and disbarment. It doesn't matter that the hoplophobic morons wouldn't know a shotgun from a bazooka. It's just "guns/repubs = bad." One picture I saw showed Cheney posing with a muzzleloader given him at the last NRA convention! Now how many people think he bagged a lawyer with a .54 caliber?

The bottom line is that Cheney effed up. He was following the bird instead of looking beyond it. As soon as I heard this I was sure the victim had been hit in the upper body. If he was out of position, that was wrong, but Cheney should have been trapping for that. I have been hit (harmlessly although they stung) twice by falling pellets from pheasant hunters shooting off in my direction. Idgets is right.

What gets me now is all the anti-gun anti-self-defense aholes who wouldn't know which end of a shotgun the shot comes out of suddenly becoming experts on correct bird-hunting techniques and hunting safety. You could tell them that the problem was caused by a faulty flash suppressor on Cheney's illegal pre-ban full-auto 100 gauge and they would print it.

Bothers me too Svashtar. You can include most of the medical community on this one as well. Have you noticed they consistently refer to the shot that hit Whittington as "BBs". I hunt coyotes with BBs or No.4 Buck, and, believe me, if Whittington had taken a load of BBs in the face, neck and chest he probably wouldn't have made it to the hospital alive.

I have decided to make an effort towards winnig the Opinel for several reasons . I appreciate the simple complexity of its design . I am not a fan of folders due to safety concerns . Most except for high end models have a pivot joint more wobbly than the knees of a drunkard . Aside from the affront this gives my sensibilities it just stands to reason that something loose like that can fail easier than something held in place by more than the strength of its pivot pin and its moorings . The Opinels twist ring retainer/lock is a master of elegance in simplicity of design . I have always preferred carbon steel blades for ease of sharpening . The edge may not hold up quite as well as some of the newer metals . I think that for the dressing of animals and other relatively non-abusive tasks the superiority of the carbon blade wins out . To me it seems to loan itself to a keen thin edge well suited to the aforementioned tasks .

On a separate note . I am from New France which of course dealt heavily in trade items and had a strong need for simple strong tools . I sometmes feel like the last Irishman left in a sea of French speaking individuals . I find when I go to black powder shoots and other gatherings that an appreciation for the other fellows wares is a good ice-breaker . I am a trader at heart . I find that showing that I hold some of the same values as those I trade with breaks down any barriers different languages may put up .

I like Cheney quite a bit, but can't understand why a man as smart as he is has never learned the key political lesson of disclosing everything immediately instead of trying to do silly damage control too little too late. Kennedy made the same mistake, as did Nixon, etc.

Just cop to it! You say "One hour ago I screwed up and made a mistake and I'm really sorry about it and here's the facts. Sue me. I'm human!" (Of course saying the "sue me" part after shooting a lawyer is probably asking for it!) The media would have still made a big deal out of it, but they wouldn't have had the "18 hour delay" (actually 14.5 hours) to hang their hats on and say he was trying to hide something. Just stupid.
