Dick Cheney Asks Harry Reid To Quail Hunt

Did you hear that S&W is going to make a new "badass gun" with the sights mounted on the right side of the barrel?

I used to have a funny picture someone sent me of a glock that had been photoshopped (I assume) to have the sights on the side. Tried to find it with no luck...

I dunno.

I watch a lot of news. Seems like the furor is by the media about the media not being informed in a timely manner, and that the Corpus Christi stopper shopper was called instead of the Washington Post.

That said, the guy with the gun watches where he shoots. No excuses, no fast-flying quail, no distractions--the guy with the gun watches where he shoots.

The other guys with the guy with the gun watch where they are in relation to the guy with the gun.

I was a Hunter Safety Instructor in Illinois, and took the classes, but never taught, up here in Wisconsin. There is NO excuse for shooting someone else by accident. None.

I hunt upland birds as often as I legally can.

Mr. Chaney is lucky he is the V.P. If any of us had shot a rich lawyer in the face with a shotgun (but it was SMALL shot--sheez), we would be better off to walk up to him and finish him off with the second barrel.

This fiasco would not have happened if Young Bert, the not-right dog, were there. He would have retrieved the downed quail for the lawyer. Those Texans were hunting by CAR?

bwray-They can't do that, what about lefty's. They will be in court before the prototype is done.
What about making weapons that reads IQ, then instead of not firing, they blow-up.

It seems that our man got hit a bit worse than we'd been led to believe.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060214/ap_on_re_us/cheney_whittington_4;_ylt=A9FJqZy1JfJDJy8A0wpqP0AC;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCU

Apparently his heart caught a bit of shot as well, causing a "minor heart attack." Lead pellets in one's heart causing irregularities in heartbeat doesn't strike me as a particularly minor condition, but I'm not a doctor.

The way it's phrased, it sounds like he'll pull through. Of course, the way it was phrased over the weekend, it was just scrapes and welts, too. The plot thickens.

For the record, I'd hunt with Cheney. (With safety glasses and a IIA vest, but I'd hunt with him.)

Oh yeah, the lefties (my wife included as she frequently reminds me). Well, the left handed version would simple have the sights mounted on the left side of the barrel. Course then there's the problem about where the ejected shells are directed. Never mind.

I like the IQ gun. Could call it the "Darwin Model".

More likely the shot migrated through his vascular system.
When it gets to a vessel that's too small, it stops and blocks blood flow.
In this case, the vessel feeds heart muscle (myocardium).

The biggest concern isn't so much the shot, but the side effects of the cardiac event in a patient of this man's age.
I wish him all the best.

Kismet,

You mention the dog. This guy from NC mentions the same thing:

Cheney ignored safe hunting proceduresBird hunters should use dogs and fewer guns -- and leave car behindSCOTT DENHAMSpecial to the Observer

http://www.charlotte.com/mld/observer/news/opinion/13866143.htm

In part he says:" The idea of hunting from a car is bad. It's dangerous because hunters would be getting in and out, guns pointing every which way, losing track of the wind, the weather, the angle of the sun, the energy level of the dogs. Hunting from a car is, for able-bodied hunters at least, completely antithetical to honest, ethical hunting.

One of the cardinal rules of any bird hunt: Don't shoot low birds. Why? It is more difficult to see birds against the ground than against the sky. It is possible that something besides a bird might be on the ground, and thus in the way; generally this would be the dog. Though it should never happen, a careless, selfish hunter might even swing through with his shotgun and find another hunter in the line of fire, but only if he were following a low bird (though most dedicated bird dog owners would agree it's better to shoot a hunting partner than a good dog!). This happened when Vice President Cheney shot his partner on Saturday evening.

Cheney's hunting party broke several basic rules: too many in the hunt party; no dog, or at least not having the dog retrieve a downed bird; hunting from a vehicle. And Cheney broke some of the most basic rules: shooting at a low bird and not being aware of the placement of his hunting party members.

One report I read stated that Cheney shot Whittington at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday -- way too late to be hunting quail. Good hunters hunt early in the day, when the light is good, the birds are active, and the dogs are fresh. One should generally not be out for quail this late in the day.
"

I have been trying to imagine this story locally. With two regular guys out hunting. I'd probably say "geez that's too bad. Poor guy who shot him. Poor guy who got shot."

Politics aside, poor gun handling aside, I do feel bad for Cheney. I also feel bad for the guy with the pellet in his heart. But I still laughed at some of the late show jokes they replayed on the Today Show. Fame and politics make it that much easier to imagine that these guys are really any different from us down deep, but I don't think they are.

We know; it wasn't neccesary to put it in Billboard, but thanks, jimings

There is NO excuse for shooting someone else by accident. None......>>>>>>> Kismet

Guys, you and Kismet have it right. Bwray. I'm an old gunny now, and it bothered me in multiple ways. I guess I even defended Cheney.

But that is the truth.

Does anyone know if a President has ever killed someone while in office? (no, not war, please)

It could be Karma for all the fun their operatives made of Kerry and his shotgun on his "huntin' trip" ;)

:D I dont know whether to laugh or cry so I did both.

Classic.

"Hey Ted," Dick Cheney asks Senator Kennedy one afternoon, "would you like to go Quail hunting with me?"

"Why..." Ted Kennedy thinks for a moment. "Why, certainly," he says, "No sense taking two cars. Let's take my car and I'll drive."

(dumb- but I had to try)

I don't think anyone who was not the VP would be much better off after accidently shooting a hunting friend. That's silly.

Not dumb. Funny actually. But if I might make a suggestion?

Ted says 'sure...I'll drive'

let them figure it out and it hits harder IMO...

Cheney's response would have to be, "Okay, I'll ride shotgun!":D

OK then;

"Hey Ted," VP Dick Cheney says to Senator Kennedy, "Let's let bygones be bygones. How about going Quail Hunting with me?"
"I'll drive," says Ted Kennedy.
"I'll ride shotgun," answers Dick.

Ted: "Sure. Who's driving?"

Don't know I'd drive with Cheney either:

"In November 1962 at age twenty one, Cheney was convicted for the first of two offences of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). According to the docket from Cheyenne's Municipal Court, Cheney was arrested for drunkenness and "operating motor vehicle while intoxicated." A Cheyenne Police Judge found Cheney guilty of the two charges and Cheney was given a 30-day suspension of his driver's license. He also had to forfeit a $150 bond posted at the time of his arrest.

Details of Cheney's second Wyoming arrest, in July 1963, have fallen victim to time and record destruction practices. However, a police arrest card similar to the one that haunted President George W. Bush and maintained by the Rock Springs Police Department shows that Cheney was fined $100 for his second DWI conviction. At the time, it was not possible for the authorities in each area to link the two convictions which would have resulted in the second offence being viewed much more seriously. Since his second Wyoming arrest, Cheney has had no further convictions.
"

Hollow? You ever drive a vehicle while intoxicated on any substance in your life? I have.
