Did I miss the announcement - BM 761?

Now this is what should have been a flipper instead of the 300. They're missing out on that. People like flippers I'm told. The 300 just doesnt have the proper detent. This they could do it with.

If this were a flipper then I'd probably overlook the tip-down only carry. Then this knife would have been competitive with the upcoming Zero Tolerance 0392 (Ti framelock, similar steel, bearings).

This is up on the Benchmade site now. Unfortunately no new pictures of it.

This is first new model that has lines pleasing to my eye in a long time. Nicely done Benchmade. I'd still get the Slysz bowie for $50 less though.

I'm thinking the same thing.I see them for pre order from knifeworks here.Personally for that price I'd much rather spend a few more bucks and buy a CRK.

I'd have to agree with you here, but I guess we've gotta pay for all those "free" pocket clips. These days, you can find excellent condition large Sebenzas for $330, sometimes less. It'll be interesting when the first threads pop up in the near future about how someone's 761 came off centered and other f/f issues.

If MAP was not enforced, at the old discounts this would be in the $240 range. Much more palatable to most at that price. I don't know anything really about ZT, but from what little I've read, aren't they producing knives in similar materials for around this price range? Could be wrong here so please correct me if so.

I agree. If they want that kind of money they need to compete with Chris Reeve when it comes to fit and finish. Otherwise, they may not make enough enough to pay for the tooling. People arent happy with Benchmade these days. Definitely need to do an overhaul over there with the problems they're having.

People aren't happy with BM these days? Overhaul? Over-generalize much there buddy? I'm happy with the last BM knives I've come across, and the ones I've handled that are not mine were all fine including the lower cost plastic handled Presidios. On this knife, M390 and bearings with Ti handle, not thinking I'd spend $300 on it either but $250-275 probably. BM has been making ti frame locks a long time and they are damn good at it. Lock bar over travel stops though cool looking and all, are probably unnecessary for most people and have now become a trend IMO. How many reports were there of people over-extending their ti lock bars here on BF? I don't know if I've ever read of a single report. Nice knife, too pricey new, this is exchange material for me.

Yes, lots of people are unhappy. That's not a revelation, dude. Started with MAP pricing and continues with chronic blade centering issues and uneven grinds. I have yet to get one thats ground symetrical. Search around and you'll find lots. I look at some of the high value offerings I have from other companies produced overseas that don't have these issues but somehow BM can't seem to ship freaking Griptilian thats centered. Add this with the inability of places like knifeworks to offer better prices and people get pissed. Another issue is the Omega spring issue but I started making them in different gauges and sending to those in need.

It's sad that the 761 is tip-up only. The price is also a little steep, and should be somewhere in the $250ish range.

Honestly, the only "unhappiness" I've noticed about Benchmade is a string of vocal, relatively petty criticism from a handful of users on this forum, which is a tiny fraction of the knife community. Benchmade knives continue to sell extremely well and are among the best production knives on the market. It's amusing when people speculate and worry over things like broken omega springs and slightly off center blades, when both are easily fixed due to the nature of the axis lock.

707sequel I am more than familiar with the ridiculous MAP hysteria that went on but how can you explain my recent experiences all being positive if the manufacturing is so bad? All brands have issues with FF nobody is perfect at these price points. There is no omega spring issue that's another load of horse crap. You seem to know a lot for being around a month

The last three BM knives I have handled are owned by two close buddies. A SHOT show grip, a brand new large grip and the small Presidio ultra. All were dead centered, sharp and worked flawlessly. All recent production too. If the hysteria over perceived poor quality were true, ONE of those knives would be sure to have some issue.

A sample size of 3 is not exactly a representative sample... If even one in twenty of their knives leave the factory with an uneven grind or with the blade centering off then IMO that is unacceptable QC. Even In the relatively small number of BM knives I own or have owned, about 45, at least 8-10 have had issues out of the box. Mainly uneven grinds, loose blades, and uncentered blades.

Ever heard of "six sigma" quality? That is only 3.4 defects per million

Just like a newbs sweeping generalization isn't any sort of statistic either. I own a handful, all perfect. Even have a FB, perfect. The ones I have handled lately, perfect. It's called hysteria.

Furthermore, this thread was started as a heads-up on a new knife, not for people to come in and poop on it rehashing bandwagon nonsense. It's like a sewing circle on BF anymore.
Spinster 1: Oh that's special but let's not forget the internet hearsay about the quality control, Ethel.
Spinster 2: You are so right Mabel, and let us not forget how they abandoned us faithful with their dreaded MAP enforcement! For shame!

Oh my! People who like Benchmade knives and who are customers are offering honest opinions about how the company is being perceived in the marketplace (charging more than competitors for knives that often have fit and finish issues) with an eye towards encouraging Benchmade to improve things. This constructive criticism must cease because all criticism is "bashing". The horror!

What's the rehashed criticism have to do with this new knife? Maybe you can go start another lame thread to beat the dead horse one more time. Nobody here has handled this new knife yet. Any speculation is premature. The comments about getting a small Sebenza for this price is valid, but the steel won't be M390 and you won't get pivot bearings either. So you ditto heads have anything positive to add to this thread?

I agree 100% ........... Ive had good and bad knives from all companys ,
Ive never had a bad Griptillian ever , maybe I was lucky ...........LOL

Beautiful lines and great materials on the knife. But price point and tip-down only isn't going to do it for me.
