Did I miss the announcement - BM 761?

Beautiful lines and great materials on the knife. But price point and tip-down only isn't going to do it for me.

I thought the same thing. It's a beautiful knife, and while I don't mind the tip down only carry, there are many comparable knives at much lower pricepoints that I am aiming to pick up first.

This is the only post MAP-enforced knife that has caught my attention, even given the relatively high price and my own experience with BM f&f (both my BM folders had ff issues out of the box) I would be willing to bite if only it was tip up. Tip down just makes it too hard to ignore the other negatives. If they drilled it tip up as well this would probably make my buy list.

Looks great... But as usual with most BM framelocks and linerlocks it's completely unfriendly to LH users. No LH clip option, not even a LH thumbstud. Always weird (and unfortunate) to see from a company that's so ambidextrous on the Axis designs.

As much as I generally prefer the AXIS lock to Frame locks I'm really liking the looks of this one. Can't wait to see some reviews.

Good looking knife, but too high for me. Makes the Bradley Alias more appealing in some ways...

Yes, always a let down to me too. :(

Furthermore, this thread was started as a heads-up on a new knife, not for people to come in and poop on it rehashing bandwagon nonsense. It's like a sewing circle on BF anymore.
Spinster 1: Oh that's special but let's not forget the internet hearsay about the quality control, Ethel.
Spinster 2: You are so right Mabel, and let us not forget how they abandoned us faithful with their dreaded MAP enforcement! For shame!

Spinster 3: Pictures? How dare you demand pictures!!! Don't you know you should just take my word for it that I got this crappy knife?!?! And besides, everyone else is saying it and they aren't posting pics either.

Spinster 4: And yeah, I know it's only been 12 FREAKING MONTHS, but I'm still sore at them about MAP, so until they overhaul, I ain't shutting up and no one can make me!

I see no point in getting a BM without axis lock. Too many other companies in this price range to risk it. I love BMs and have more of them than any other brand, but the last two I got new had to go back for quality issues.

Anyone else notice the Benchmade website lists the knife as tip-up only? Maybe a typo or maybe the knives will arrive with tip-up. Not like similar things haven't happened. We will know in a few days.

It's beautiful. So much better looking than a Sabenza. Traditional clip position. I don't see any reason not to get this beauty.

Oh yeah, m390!

Call it titanium framelock ennui, but it's just hard for me to muster much enthusiasm for another titanium framelock--unless it has some particularly unique, original, or distinctive characteristics. And this one is on the cusp of the Sebenza price bracket, so let's hope BM has the QC locked down.

It's tip-down only. Benchmade said so on their forum. They are worried that you'll stab yourself if it were tip-up.

The web site also says the knife weighs 0.00 oz. Perhaps their website QC is as good as their knife QC. :D

Looks like a nice upgrade from BM's old 750.... hopefully comes without the lock rock.

Unfortunately in my experience with the knife so far, there is a little up/down lock rock. How the monolock is designed, it has a little bit of titanium hanging over and prevents the frame lock from fully engaging. It is a little disappointing and I am not exactly sure what to do. I am noticing that the design/shape of the blade stop allows it to spin. I have used that to my advantage to make a it a little tighter, but the spine of the blade isn't fully engaged on the blade stop because of the angle I had to set it at. To be honest, I think that a round blade stop like on the 710, for example, would create a better locking interface. That's just my 2 cents. besides that, I really love the steel and blade shape! I would love to hear from Benchmade to see if they have any suggestions or comments on this.

Regards,
Steven

Im not getting that "lock rock" my lockup is very tight. My problem is detent or lack there of. Tore down the knife this morning. Realy thinking about drilling detent hole a hair stronger.

Mine is loose enough that I can shake the blade out, and with the bearings providing no friction, it flies all the way to lock-up. Unfortunately, I think the lock bar is not rigid enough to support a better closed position detent. And I am 100% convinced the pocket clip is there as an over-travel limit/stop and therefore there is no option to make this knife a tip-up carry. My 761 spends all of it's time in my knife box. Disappointing purchase for me.

It does look like the clip is designed to prevent over-travel. Better than sitting in its box if you don't like it these are worth something. I am sure the Exchange would be a good place to go should you choose.
