Discovery Channel has fired Cody Lundin

Meh, maybe that new guy will be alright. I can't stand the show with Joe on it though, he does a lot of dumb things as if hes sprinting out of a combat zone to his extraction point. I mean if you really were in a survival situation you fall and twist your ankle you just made things a lot worse. He always seems like 90% of the stuff he knows he has no experience doing. Watching him run through fields and throw a spear at a bird while mid stride, only to see the "spear" wobble its way a yard or so off from the animal just make me laugh. I was watching that "Behind the Scenes" where they tried to trash Cody, one scene in particular Joe was trying to pin down a small rattlesnake and Cody was laughing uncontrollably. They made it seem like they didn't know what Cody was laughing about, or that he was crazy, but in reality I got the vibe that Cody thought he was an idiot. Going after a really small snake and struggle to get it pinned down, venomous or not, anyone with experience dealing with snakes makes a quick matter out of that not struggling being all nervous about it so they can look cool. Cutting the head off it and flicking his knife around like hes ready for combat, the whole boar killing thing where hes screaming and staring like a madman. Its just all ridiculous, I get the feeling Cody was never happy with Joe and realized the knowledge, skill, and experience Dave or others had far surpassed Joe and all the military vernacular in the world couldn't cover that up. It was a lot more than two "contrasting styles" it was a guy acting like an idiot constantly doing things that left the wilderness expert wondering why.

"Dual Survival Defamation

Hi Campers,
Taking the high road does not involve letting disingenuous people dump on you. I have heard that Discovery Communications and Original Media (the production company) tried their best to defame me on last night’s program, even dredging back into season three. Like herpes, just when one thinks the last boil is gone, another one appears. A cease and desist letter for defamation was sent to both companies by my attorney weeks ago. It seems this was ignored. For executives to purposely pick and edit footage out of context at my and the viewers expense, all the while knowing the real back story, is without conscience. Once again, these actions are uncalled for and have forced my hand to defend my professional reputation.

What Dual Survival fans don’t know is that last night’s “behind the scenes” episode was Discovery’s “Plan B” at attempting to explain why I am no longer on the show. “Plan A,” which I refused to participate in, is far more interesting, informative and damning to those involved.

On a positive note, I am overwhelmed by the support I have received from fans. Thousands of you have sent notes of well wishing in letters, emails, voice mails, facebook, and on my blog. Many of you expressed sadness at my parting, but were grateful for the integrity. One couple who had used my role on the show to teach their children outdoor skills is now using my termination as a teaching point to remind their kids to be true to themselves regardless of the apparent cost. Brilliant! We can all lose jobs, we can all lose friends, but if we lose our integrity and honor, we all lose. I appreciate your supporting qualities that cannot be bought.

Remember, the Light never fails!

Stay true, Cody"

I have t seen Matt Graham in action yet but from the previews it appears he has some serious skills. A much better pairing would bring Dave back to work with Matt. That would probably be less drama but I get enough drama at home anyway. Dave was always less susceptible to the producers antics than Joe and only time will tell how many crazy hoops Matt will have to jump through.

On a side note, that stupid squirrels nest was less than ten feet up. Joe loves using spears but apparently can't use a stick.

I think that Cody should attempt to complete the Naked and Afraid challenge. I bet he couldn't do it. What with his lengthy pig tails and all.

Matt has been on "dude your screwed" and seems to be a talented primitive skills guy.
he too is from a desert region.
looks like an interesting guy with experience working on a tv survival show with retired operators...

I may actually have to sit down and watch the show with Cody and joe. I liked the ones with Cody and dave . Until I have watched the ones with Cody and joe , I'm gonna sit on the fence abit. Besides as far survival goes , I only know what I've read , and have had no chance to practice any of it

For me, i think its TV, entertainment. i dont like joe, running around, jumping and climbing, taking unnecessary risks in general. like bear grylls for example. its a matter of time until he breaks a leg when he runs down those hills, or even worse gets something gets stuck up his ass, when he slides them down. in a survival situation, one should not expose himself to stupid risks. break or strain an ankle and that might be it. i also didnt like joes "warrior" mentality. Him snarling and growling and wanting to kill everything was kind of stupid. i felt like he was auditioning for the role of wolverine. only thing missing was a "snikt" sound, while drawing his knife. that said, i respect cody lundins survival skills, especially those in desert survival. But watching the last episode, where he said that he teaches winter survival and then is seen walking around in shorts and socks, is just silly. Understand, i am not an survival expert or live 24/7 in a selfbuild mud hutt. i am writing as a normal human being with some outdoor experience. dress accordingly, is one of my main rules. lets be honest, even if he walked the last 20 years around barefoot and doesnt feel the cold, what about the rest of his legs? or is he wearing some kind of special winter shorts??? as a teacher you should set an example. my girlfriend, having no knowledge whatsoever about the outdoors, commented his look with the words, "what an idiot." and i agree. Mykel Hawke, Ray Mears and Les Stroud show in my opinion how it is done correctly. be prepared, keep calm, conserve your energy and be smart. thats what keeps you alive. btw, i liked man, woman, wild most of all the shows.

I'm a fan of Cody's and have his book 98.6 Degrees, The art of keeping your ass alive!
He preaches in his book about wearing proper clothing; yet like Konz81 says, the shorts are not enough protection in a extreme winter environment. (He must be wearing a wolf skin jock strap to keep his "nuts" from freezing solid)
What I would like to see them do is have Joe Teti and Bear Gryls in a ... "Survival Death Match."
Bring back Cody, Dave and Matt in ... "Triple Survival, two's company but three's a crowd."

OK, can't stay out of the fray anymore. Joe, thank you for your military service but your head is so big and you are so proud I could not watch the show anymore. You played right into the producers vision of let's create some friction between these two and let's have Joe lead the way in doing his best to get both he and Cody killed. And all the while yelling, screaming and carrying on. Geeesh. Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. A classic example of ego on steroids. Dave - Yes!, Cody - Yes!, Les - Yes!, Bear - Yes! Joe - Come on man, get serious.

First time I saw Dual Survival I thought it was a complete joke. One guy was slicing his arm to cauterize it, and the other was running around bare foot.

After watching a few more episodes it wound up being one of my favorite shows. Cody went from a joke (in my mind) to in my opinion, the most real survivalist on tv (well Les Stroud is up there too!).

He's a real stand up guy, total professional, who stands up for what he thinks is right, despite the consequences.

I for once would love to see novices and those completely new to it, making their first fire, shelter, learning things, and coping. I can stick a hawk in a paper plate at 30ft, is it fun--yes, but its more fun to see someone stick a throw for the first time!!

The closest I've seen to this is I, Caveman.

last night I watched for the first time the last episode with cody. Damn they sure made him look like a big A$$. With him throwing the spear and other stuff into the water. Would be nice to hear the real truth and if Joe was really that good of a guy. With editing you can it look like anything you want it to be..

That scene was not either party's best behavior. In the beginning Cody is up top trying to toss Joe their fire making stuff and Joe is insisting he catch the stuff while standing in the water. Cody tried to talk him into playing catch on dry land and Joe wouldn't do it so Cody tossed everything in the H2O. My bet is the camera crew wanted the shot but Cody wanted to not add more risk to the minimal gear they had.

I think Cody is a good guy and is from the "calm and reasonable wins" camp. That is what I have learned in life and it usually works. Calm and reasonable usually wins in a survival situation. When joe killed the hog with his knife, then scanned the area like a movie house ninja, I burst out laughing. What was he scanning for, the best camera angle ?

Anybody notice that Teti is not using his own knife but some kind of tanto with some kind or serrations on it?
