Disruption in the political forum.

Instead of throwing out the baby with the bathwater, why don't you just disable the "report post" links in PA?

Throwing out the baby with the bathwater?

I'm not pro abortion, but perhaps a political type forum "baby", such as this, should have been aborted in the first place.

Any pre-birth pregnancy ultra sound, if done correctly, especially on a political type forum "baby" would have definitely shown a severely high retardation level in its genetically handicapped hack formation and would have been aborted long before it began, in normal circumstances mind you. :D

I happen to enjoy the Political Forum, and I think that it contributes a lot to the forums overall. I also know that a number of forumites, whom I count as friends, disagree.

While I also sometimes find Gollnick's anti-trolling admonishments to be out of place at times (not always)--I don't find it to be that big of a deal. You don't like what he says? Skip on down. It's not that hard, is it?

I hope that Spark decides to keep the Political Forum, but I surely do understand that the political whiners could be too big of a pain in the ass.
While "the Gollnick Affair" may be the last straw, the amount of bitching about the moderators in that forum is unbelievable. What a bunch of whiners (and we know who they are).

I gotta tell you guys: I sure hope that Spark keeps a supply of rare, discontinued Microtech OTF autos for distribution to the mods in way of compensation. For the life of me, I cannot understand why anyone would be willing to moderate otherwise.

Well, I went to bed early this morning thinking to myself how all the political forum does is bring out the worst in everyone here, myself included. Wouldn't bother me none at all if Spark dumped the whole thing and never reopened it and never looked back. Who here could blame him after all the whining lately?? That or rename it the fight club forum because thats all that goes on there really. Its the worst pissing and moaning forum here even above and beyond the GB&U forum and thats supposed to be the one we expect it in. Go figure. Personally when it starts to bleed out to the other forums from Political because the walls of political can no longer hold it its probably time to at least give it a long break. I agree with the lock down.

One could argue more persuasively that Whine and Cheese or even Pirate's Cove brings out the worst in everyone here, given that people are free to attack other members without consequence in those forums -- but I see no rush to remove those, nor would I encourage that.

W&C is a playground, PA is a battlefield.

Just turn it into the Thunderdome that Prac Tac was for years. A lawless wasteland that the political minded masochists can enjoy.

Make someone click through 3 "warning: you are entering the political arena" pages and disable the report button;) Let the jackals fight it out there and give any thread deviation regarding political subject matter a swift infraction. Keep the slop troth but make sure the edges are clean, so to speak.

The only downside that I see to that is that our very fair and even tempered mods of that area would be swept under the rug to deal with an area that is already a handful. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, but certainly not on anyone like Ken Cox, Mycroftt and Bronco.

Ken, Mycrofft and Bronco do a fine job.
Why not let them do their job?
I don't see anyone complaining about the REAL moderators.

Just in case someone's paying attention, I also think that the PA is worthwhile and shouldn't be shutdown forever. Hopefully Spark can figure out a way to save it while removing it as "a thorn in his side."

Locking the Political Asylum Arena is like unlocking Arkham Asylum... the inmates will sneak off and lay in wait throughout the rest of Gotham City.

We can now lay the shutdown of the forum at Chuck's feet as well, which is somewhat ironic...
No, I disagree.
Everyone on the PA forum is free to totally ignore Chuck's remarks.
I really don't even understand why someone would come here and complained to Spark and ruin the PA forum for everyone when they could have easily just ignored Chuck.
One must have thick skin when discussing politics.
IMO, whining to Spark about a fellow member on the PA forum is a good indicator that the whiner shouldn't be on the PA forum to begin with.

In other more conventional words:
If you can't take the heat then stay out of the kitchen.

Really? How?

Care to explain how I can put him on Ignore? That's what I do with other posters I dislike strongly, why is he so special?

At base... why does being a mod on one subforum absolve one from being treated like everyone else (infractions, ignore list, etc.) everywhere else? No power, no privilege.

I don't think I was really whining to Spark. I just reported a thread, and started one in Service and Support to indicate that I had done so, so others could express what they thought about that. I thought Chuck might enjoy a taste of his own medicine, and find out how much his efforts in Political are appreciated by other members.

I don't consider myself a member of the PA forum, I'm a BF member who goes into PA every once in a while. I could care less about Gollnick's political views, it's his behaviour as self-appointed moderator of that forum I take issue with. Gollnick has never done anything to me personally to earn my ire, rather, it is his pattern of constant harassment of others, and attempting to force the entire forum to conform to his personal agenda I have a problem with. I don't like it when I see people bullying others. Consistently.

Agreed.

Personally I like a little porn and the faux fights that go on in W&C and PC over whether a skinny babe or one with some meat on her bones is better are done in fun like most of the other things going on there. In Political everyone there gets dead serious about everything from how you post to anything else and it really carries over into personal relationships sometimes in business dealings if you sell here to how folks interact with each other on other forums which is apparent by all the bad blood from the rules on down to party leanings and and choices I think.

It's easy.....you're reading the various posts in a thread, you get to one by Chuck, you just skip it and go on to the next post.
It's like reading the newspaper.....you skip the parts that you're not interested in reading.

You've missed my point. Anyone else, I can put them on Ignore. Gollnick I can't, because he's a mod in a subforum I've never visited in my 4 years here. That's the special treatment to which I and others refer.

Ironic how folks that disagree with each other in the political arena so vehemently agree with each other completely here. I'm Triton and I approve the above message. :)

While it's true you can't put him on ignore... you can still ignore him. Man, I've got to stop posting in this thread or Spark is going to can political and ban me for being a pain in the backside...
