He is pandering to his customer base. I think most of them will like it.

Considering his blade geometries I find "swift" amusing.

It isn't a classy name but that isn't what he is going for. Does it offend me? I am not as Irish as the OP but as an Irish kid from Boston I can say that I am not easily offended. As long as you do not disrespect my mother I am all good. I have crocodile skin.

I think the name is disgusting in this day and age with all the work being done in homes and communities its really unhelpful. And as for a knife name.. it promotes a really poor image of the knife community.. am I offended? Hell yes I am but iv lost over 10 comerades to suicide and found one of my friends. Iv been involved in 100s of suicide interventions through volunteering. And I myself have needed intervention for thoughts of suicide. Poor taste in my opinion, but like I said im an advocate for suicide prevention. And for anyone struggling who sees this, its ok to reach out and ask for help most countries have a sucide hotline

There is a list available in the link.
To those who are not offended.. good for you...

I aint worried just thought with all the knife rights crap goin on and all bad publicity in the knife world a knife named suicide anything sucks .
I have already had another bf user threaten to squeal to greg l.i.g.a.f.
I wonder is this user an american cos if so isnt free speech part.of the constitution and also im on a knife forum where knife questions get asked .let him run off to greg .
Ill ask opinions on what i like i never said a bad word about anything medford just the knife name obviously this guy got his knickers in a twist his business threatening me with greg wow ....

Suicide Run... a run/route so dangerous that it's suicide to attempt it.

Suicide Doors... Doors that fly open at speed, in a suicidal fashion, because they open into the wind.

Suicide Swift... An auto version of a knife with no safety... Living dangerously!

I don't think it makes a ton of sense, but that's how I read it. In the same vein as suicide run, suicide mission, etc.

It's a version of their new Praetorian Swift auto without a safety. There's a normal ski run and a suicide run, normal doors and suicide doors, normal Praetorian Swift and the Suicide Swift. I don't see the big deal.

Artistic freedom is a thing. They are pandering to their fan base in the market.

I have an AR10 named the Sex Panther.

Suicidal Tendencies was a great band.

These names are by design to conjure up emotional responses. And sales.

Distasteful? Maybe to some. Does it bother me personally? Not at all. As mentioned earlier an important characteristic people have is the ability to not be easily offended.

You're assuming he's using the word suicide in that context though. Is calling a particularly gnarly ski run a "suicide run" or calling a jewish man's attempt to get his girlfriend's VERY catholic mother's blessing for marriage a "suicide mission" offensive? How about "suicide doors" on a car?

You're free to be offended by whatever you want, but that knife has nothing to do with your deceased comrades. I'm not diminishing your loss in any way or making light of legitimate suicide, I'm just saying that conflating the use of a simple word with your loss, regardless of context is unfair.

Do unto others right... Are you infallible? Have you never said anything in one context that someone could've chosen to be offended by? Why assume some indifference on Greg's part when YOU could give him the benefit of doubt and just assume he was going for something that you just don't quite understand.

Yup! Don't joke about our moms or our sports teams, GO Bruins! Defend The Barhn!, Framingham in the house here.

As someone who has tragically dealt with losing friends and loved ones to suicide, yes I think it is quite offensive.

Medford sounds like a trashy company.

Again, suicide doors, suicide run, suicide mission, etc.

He's using a literary device that's been used plenty of times before. He made an auto and called the version with no safety the suicide version.

It has nothing to do with your loss. Conflating the two is unfair. Calling them trashy because you chose not to give the maker the benefit of doubt is what seems trashy.

The difference is that suicide doors were never officially called that nor were they marketed as such. Coach Doors/Rear Hinge Doors. Same with Suicide Mission or Suicide Run, those aren't official terms and more used colloquially. And those two terms also have negativity attached to it. Personally I just think it's a name that sounds unnecessarily negative and has baggage attached to it that it doesn't need. I mean no big corporation would market a box cutter with a name like that, because they know it's really not a great way and not all PR is good PR.

/I will concede however that you are probably right with the way Greg went about coming up with the name.

Everything written below is a statement of my personal opinion, and is not open to debate =)

To me, anything coming out from Medford is just trying to be unpleasant, distasteful, ugly (and overpriced).
Designs and corporate attitude seems to aim for a public image of rudeness, immaturity and bullying.
If it's the goal of Mr Medford with his company, he brillantly succeeded. It's quite a feat to manage to blend idiotic names, ugly designs and bad foul personality in a single entity. Makes QRTMSTWTFR lame in comparison, and the flying dong guy like someone actually cool and clever you wanna share a beer with.

To answer the OP, yes it's a terrible name, childishly offensive. And it's also a commercial lie. Considering how fat behind the edge anything MKT is, it's torture, not suicide :)

Again, suicide doors, suicide run, suicide mission, etc..

Too bad everything you mentioned above are all nicknames, not official names.

Also, we're talking about what most people consider a deadly weapon rather than a tool or a collectible item.

So something that's not offensive as a nickname becomes offensive when it's official?

We'll just have to agree to disagree. On just about everything I'd bet.

I never said they weren't offensive. But I'll stand by my statement that the naming of the knife referenced is offensive, and judging by the poll results I'm not the only one that agrees.....

Have a good evening.

Well said b00n,T.L.E. Sharp, FullMetalJackass, and Cscotttsss you all have brought up valid points and opinions. Although the name does not bother me personally even though I also have dealt with the suicide of a friend I "Get it". The problem lies with the public's perception of the name and how they will respond to it. If it were my company I would steer clear of that name with all that is going on lately with gun and knife legislation but that's just my opinion and Greggs customers have their own opinion i'm sure so let's just all agree that Greg is a bit of an abrasive A-Hole who needs a geometry lesson and makes bad choices. He should have called it the MDK for Murder, Death, Kill. Greg if you can and do read this please feel free to use MDK for your next Fantasy Knife as long as you send me one for Free.
