This is where our points of view differ. I think most PC movements and organizations are lead by weak people who want to play the victim and use their victim status to control others. It's a power play. (This obviously doesn't include movements against physical violence, economic oppression, etc. I'm only talking about compelling the speech of others.)

I value free speech higher than anything else in our society. 100% free. That includes speech that isn't pleasant. Listeners, readers, etc. have to have the discipline to judge the value in that speech and either continue to engage or simply move along.

Purposely conflating the name of a knife model with the suicide rate in your country seems like asking a drifter to hold your jewelry. You opted in. Being mad at Greg Medford because you've lost friends to suicide is like being mad at a police force when the drifter you gave your jewelry to takes off.

Communication goes both ways. If you choose to take offense to something that wasn't intended to offend I think it's wrong to treat the sender negatively.

That's my issue with some of this thread. I disagree with taking offense to the name, but respect the feelings of those who do. To treat Greg or Medford knives as if he attacked you though is inarguably ridiculous and more offensive in turn than the knife name could ever have been.

Its actually nothing to do with PC and more about being respectful and mindful, the reason why I shared info in the suicide rates here is because thats how I came to my opinion when I saw the question. Its distasteful. I am a community suicide alert helper with applied suicide intevention skills training certified by the local health services executive. Some of the strongest people I know work in the organizations I mentioned previously. Of course im going to have strong opinions on the language around mental health and suicide its where one of my passions are.. in regards freedom of speech, I was raised with "just because you can, doesn't mean you should" so Greg (who sounds like a really lovely guy btw) can call his work whatever he likes but he can expect people to not like it to.

Iv fed housed and watered many a drifter to btw and have yet to have a negative experience..

Enjoyed reading your point of view but I remain, unimpressed with the name and its not one for my collection..

Is any effort being made on the flipside? Any work being done to inspire critical thinking or the mental fortitude to deal with a differing opinion or potentially offensive behavior in a healthy way?

Imploring people to use respectful, mindful speech and compelling a PC vernacular read almost the same to me in a litigious or "social justice" context.

I think the name's silly, as most are. I'm a contrarian's contrarian though. Counter culture to the counter culture. I'd love to see a company like MKT name all their knives after flowers or Victorian fashion trends. Let's be honest, we're not tactical operators and it's not a weapon. It's a fancy, overpriced tool that opens mail.

Thank you b00n b00n , Bigbadgoth Bigbadgoth , AntDog AntDog , @ScooterG and any others I've missed for participating in a bizarrely rational and civil conversation about this sort of topic. I fully expected this thread to crash and burn long before now.

Is the actual name of the model Suicide Swift or is it Praetorian Swift?
My best friend died at his own hands. At the time I was devastated and will never fully be at peace with his actions. However I'm not offended by the name used for the knife.

My understanding is that its Suicide Swift. The safety free version of the Praetorian Swift.

That would fit better and be more interesting. I mean or rename his company to "Medford Killing Tools", keep the MKT Abbreviation and go all out on the "OMG so badass"-route.

More PC name for no safety AO : "Ball Stabber"

non AO : "Pinky Amputator "

Nope. I'm a Texan. A lot of knives were illegal here for a long time. I like the current state of legislation better, but we got by just fine before.

I didn’t! My purchases were mainly kept below 5.5” blade length. No mas.
