DLT Bark River Magnacut Santoku

I think I got ignored, and I'm never gonna get to see a picture of a spyderco magnacut or other brands with patina or stains on it. 😭

thanks Fixall Fixall for doing this test of magnacut other brands for patina and stains......
Not yet lol but maybe read my posts ? I said I always remove any stains with flitz. I’m not a patina Queen and always maintain my knives regardless of the blade steel 👍🏻

I noticed it happened before just from the oils or should I say finger prints and also have noticed discoloration on the edge itself . I did not take notes of what caused it I just pulled out the flitz and problem solved 👍🏻
Thanks. No shade here, but I know some people have more corrosive sweat than others. There’s a guy on the Spyderco forum who can cause corrosion on every steel except for LC200n and H1, according to him.

Hey is this benchmades Magnacut patina or just so it won’t stain and patina ? Or omg is it a new form of a Patina 😆

Plenty of companies dlc, Cerakote, etc purely for looks. Spyderco even coats one of their lc200n blades because that’s what some people like.

I feel like surface contamination is a possibility for some small cases. My Spyderco Tasman Salt had issues around the logo etch from cross contamination, I believe. I’ve had a mc deka in the gulf for many, many hours, with no rust or patina. I probably spent 10-15 hours in a salt water pool last month with the Deka clipped in my pocket. Shook it dry, no rust or patina.

I wouldn’t be happy with having to modify a blade because of a known manufacturer flaw. As others have said, find a maker on the forum. I recommend David Mary David Mary . I know he’s worked with MC but his work with AEB-L is second to none.

I'd never trust brkt, no matter the response I got here. Sorry OP. Cant be sure what caused it but can be sure not to trust the manufacturer.

Personally, I have super acidic skin. You can tell which side of the mattress I sleep on by the colour of the bedsheets lol. I've made plenty of stainless steels stain by simply touching them. I took me a while to realize the cause. I was confused at first about the "lack" of corrosion resistance of many 'stainless' steels, until I realized it was my skin lol.

So, if that magnacut patina is normal, as some suggest, i've not invested well in my current purchases lol
Magna cut is suppose to be a notch under lc200n, per Larrins understanding.
So interested to hear more from others. I am yet to have my current magna cut stain but I also havent handled it much yet!

I think for this specific tastes its because a black blade is going to not be as shiny thus being more tactical, this is one of the more tactical designs by spyderco (subway bowie)

I understand. My point was that Cerakote and other coatings are often used aesthetically on stainless knives, rather than for corrosion resistance.

The main feature of many companies “custom” shop is often just a plethora of Cerakote colors for the blade and hardware.

Let’s see how we’re looking after a couple hours of mustard, strawberry, cherry tomato, and some vinegar (didn’t have room on the blade for the chicken).

I sold my Spyderco Para 3 LW Salt in MagnaCut, but I’d be happy to test plenty of other brands. Hogue, customs, bestech, Buck, ZT, Boker, North Arm, Carothers, REK…. You name it. I highly suspect the results would be the same as the test I just did.

GeofS GeofS I would absolutely be requesting a refund.

I have a feeling it’s a mislabeled steel or a heat treat issue, rather than embedded steel from dirty belts.

If I’ve learned anything through the years here, it is to approach BRK with caution. Great looking knives, questionable qc and the customer service seems to be lacking. I remember reading the story about a Bowie being sharpened to a toothpick and I chose to mark them off my list. Plenty of other “bushcraft” options. White River comes to mind.

I'd love to see your customs, Carothers and Rek tested out of curiousity if you're up for it!

Alright, so here we have a custom Rosco P Trapper in MagnaCut by Jason Ritchie, a custom REK Ember in MagnaCut, a CPK DEK1 in MagnaCut, and another custom REK Ember in Mgnacut.

Also pictured is a North Arm paring knife in MagnaCut since it’s what I used to cut the tomatoes and strawberries. 😂
