Do carry a folder that's longer the legal limit or are you legal where you live?

Some guys worry about it and some guys don't IMO.

If you're not doing anything stupid to attract attention from steeple or anyone else I really don't think .25 or .70 is

going to make any difference. If the knife is in you pocket/pockets and you don't take it out and open the blade

who is going to know how long the blade is.

I live in Michigan. The law here states that a person can't carry a knife with a blade over 3" for illegal intent.

I've never been worried about the length of the blade I carry. I don't take it out very often in public, if I do I use

my se Dfly not my not my large folder if I remember to use the Dfly.

I've read comments from guys looking for a knife with the legal blade length in their state. As I said before, don't

do anything stupid and who's really going to know if it's over the legal limit.

So it's ok to carry a blade of 3" or less with illegal intent?

Unless you are being searched by Cops daily, then it's okay
to let the blade length slide.

No reason to be sarcastic, I'm taking about max blade length, not being picky about a blade less than 3".

They way it's written doesn't really make any sense, so I don't really pay attention. I don't intend on doing anything illegal, so I'm not at all concerned. Lol. Look it up though, it doesn't make any sense.

A lot of laws don't make sense the way they are written. Legalese is a special kind of language that seems to be vague on purpose.

Kentucky is generally a nice place to be for knife knuts, but I usually stick with a Chaparral, UKPK, or SAK Cadet in sheeple zones anyway (office/urban).

Of course. This way the lawyers convince the lot of us that it's necessary to have them around and pay them loads to interpret it.

Length isn't really the issue in New York, the lock is the bigger is the problem. In any case, I've definitely been known to carry an illegal knife from time to time. Especially if I'm just going to someone's house or somewhere not in public, per se. I don't do too much that could or would get me searched by the NYPD but you never know...

No problem here on any length state law wise. 4 " concealed fine without a ccw. Falls under the legal definition of a pocket knife and not a weapon. Carried openly no limit. With a ccw no limit on length concealed.

There are county and city ordinances though that have limits.....but the police and sheriff deputies etc have no idea what those ordinances are and neither do the citizens or officials as they are not easy to find and ive asked my county commissioners to provide them for me multiple times and they haven't been able to as of yet. So that said......

I try to stay within the laws.....but i can do whatever i want for the most part since its not a hot topic area here like it is in say nyc, miami, chicago, etc and other big cities.....

I carry autos, balis, 4"+ folders. ..whatever i want without fear or issues.

Of course, I also pee in the shower on occasion. I'm a real risk taker.

No blade limit.

It's police discretion.
If you can't explain why you carry a knife, or seem shady or nervous, you will lose it.

I think that's fair. If you can't explain why you carry a knife you should lose it, and I personally don't want you carrying one...

No, but carrying a blade over 5.5" in my daily life would be more than absurd anyway. I was very hopeful that they would revoke the statute that bans carrying a double edge blade, I was going to buy a Benchmade Infidel, sadly that isn't going to happen though (read in Knife Laws for the full story). I'm not about to spend $400 on a knife I can't legally take out of my home.

Contrary to what some idiots on here and other forums will say, having a CHL (which I do) does NOT exempt one from Texas law on prohibited weapons, such as illegal knives as defined per statute.

Texas limit is 5.5" and I'm not in any danger of breaking that with a normal folder. I daily carry knives up to and including the Military.

But to directly answer the question, I don't carry anything that violates the law so if I am going to carry a fixed blade in my gear I pick on that is below 5.5".

I don't worry about it a lot though, if the law states 5.5" is the limit there will be common sense exclusions. For instance I suggest that every kitchen in the state has knives longer than 5.5", and every store that sells household goods sells kitchen knives longer than 5.5", so a person has to have the ability to buy the knife in the store and take it home. And I'm sure a lot of fishermen carry fillet knives longer than 5.5". But back and forth to my office I feel like I should stay under 5.5".

I never paid that much attention to it, but it just so happens that my preferences tend to be within the old legal limit in TN. Currently, there are no limits but intent is everything and subject to police discretion. I never carried a fixed blade which is where I might have gotten in trouble under the old limit.

I think he was just being humorous and at the same time pointing out how useless some of our state knife laws can be.:p

In Tennessee you can carry a sword if you want to. Autos are legal, no limit on length for any type of knife.

I've never once heard anyone imply that having a concealed weapons permit/license to carry a handgun would exempt someone from laws applying to carrying illegal weapons. That's absurd. I'm sure there are some dummies out there though that may think that, but I've never heard that on any of the forums I belong to.

And in PA the knife laws are very vague and can vary between municipalities. Though generally it's just autos and doubled edges knives that are illegal to carry. Larger fixed blades should be carried openly, but that's the only way Id ever carry a large fixed blade anyways. Which I am not doing unless I am going camping hunting or if the SHTF and you better believe I am not worrying about any laws if that last one happens!
