Do carry a folder that's longer the legal limit or are you legal where you live?

If PA had a length limit to knives, I'd carry what the legal length stated and no more. Being that we don't, I've been known to carry my KABAR around just because I wanted to.

Exactly.
I've worn my Grohmann Knives #4 Survival knife around from time to time, and it has a 5.5 inch blade. Used it at Tim Horton's a few times to cut a bagel...why not, it's a knife!

Most times I've seen or heard of someone being hassled around here for having a knife, it was a teenager; cops don't seem to really like teenagers carrying knives around, other than a Swiss Army Knife or similar thing.
When the being hassled involved adults, it was usually because they had stabbed someone, or threatened to do so.

Let's try an experiment....

Because in America it's Police discretion + ridiculous 'size' laws.

Take your 'legal' 2.5 inch Spyderco and flick it open and closed in public.
Just stand around and do that.....

When the cops come, let us know how that goes.
Enlighten us with the questions they will ask you, and if answered improperly, let us know if you still have a knife.

You tell the police you have the 'right to bear arms' and that the knife is of legal size.
See how that works out.

If you do anything 'strange' with anything that can be considered to be a weapon, you will have to answer questions.
That's the way the world works, American or Russian.

Your constitution say's that as a citizen you clearly have the 'right to bear arms'

That means a knife (no size limit)....as well as anything you can use as a tool to protect yourself.

Try taking an AR, a couple of Glocks, and a bag of Ammo and knives to work tomorrow and let me know how that goes....

The point is, it is, and will always be police discretion regardless of the law.
Just because you can carry a knife does not mean you can do anything you want with it without having to explain yourself.

I know, way to many sheep scared by even the word knife.
But if they scream, the police will come, and you will have to answer questions.
I don't care what state you live in.....

This is how the system works here, and I don't think you have issues with it.
I am sure you use your knives as I do, and have never had an issue.

People that none of us would want carrying anything larger than a pin, usually lose their knives and I am OK with that.

There is always a reason.
Nobody I know has had a knife taken away by the police because the police where bored.

Don't worry...our police carry machine guns and wear body armor and drive tanks consistent with any full blown police state now.
We are, right now, experiencing a hostile occupation in many places in the US.

What makes the US different from the nightmare where you live is we have the Right to take up arms against such transgressions.

The fact is, it has happened before...and it will happen again.Good officers like our fellow forum member know only too well the idiocy that brought us to this state...as well as the sad solution to same.

Don't worry. We are sufficiently suppressed...and that will change.

I wish what I have written was false...but alas I remember when Police carried 38 revolvers with ammo that was not against the Geneva convention in time of war...but the ammo they use now is illegal for use in war.To their shame.

What a horrible state of affairs........

Nightmare?
Sure it was rainy today, but I had pizza with 5 toppings, watched some great shows on television, spent time with the woman I love, and have a new knife coming in the mail tomorrow. :)

And now I'm going to have a coffee and watch a movie.

If that's a nightmare, then you can keep your sweet dreams. :D

I took my girls out for lunch and it was very pleasant...

The comedy ensues when I take them shooting...

That depends on the State and Jurisdiction.
Take your 'legal' 2.5 inch Spyderco and flick it open and closed in public.

...and why would someone want to "do that?" It's a knife...regardless of size, with intended uses that do not include "playing with it." To open and close it after a genuine use is one thing. To randomly stand on a corner flicking it is another. It's not a toy...stop treating them like it.

works out fine for those wandering around town with an AR15....what's so special about a Spyderco?

I can kill someone with an hors d'oeuvres toothpick. Should they be banned?

you are correct in both instances. Which is why there is such a huge push to get illegally written laws [read that as UnConstitutional] declared null and void.
Try taking an AR, a couple of Glocks, and a bag of Ammo and knives to work tomorrow and let me know how that goes....
I do it every damned day. Also, citizens tend to walk around with them in plain view. Guess what? No OK Corral here....

Yes you can within reason.
I know, way to many sheep scared by even the word knife.

I don't care what state you live in.....

I do answer those calls and I do approach a situation carefully - but I also approach the situation knowing that I will not violate a Constitutional Right just because "I felt like it."

Missed this post.....

Philly..... that is the district where local legislators at the state level are often the author of proposed restrictive legislation on firearms. Places like Philly, Newark, NYC, DC, Baltimore aren't really part of the US any more.

Philly.... the Liberty Bell, birthplace of freedom.....

No sir, that would be Harrisburg

The law is not that hard to comprehend...

Cop: "Can you explain to me why you're carrying this knife?"

Me: "Ask my lawyer..."

Do carry a folder that's longer the legal limit or are you legal where you live?

Just answer the question.

This would all make sense if I lived in the USSR of A.

As a Canadian, my right to carry any knife I want is far beyond what is permitted in almost every State in America, and we have no constitution.

I see zero issue with the Police doing their job and taking knives from idiots.

I think this is really being over-blown.
The Police here don't go on a witch hunt for people carrying knives.
They are incredibly cool about it, and it's really a non-issue.

If you are being an idiot and have a knife you will lose it. You can pick it up at the station later.

This is only an issue for people who are an issue.

Hm. Suuure. On the Sanrenmu 710:

"I remember when the police took the knife from me, the officer and his friend tried to flick the knife open many times, but they couldn't."

"Certain knives are designated as 'prohibited weapons' pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada. Section 84(1) defines such knives as "a knife that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device attached to or in the handle of the knife".

"As I was arrested while carrying mine, the RCMP said they didn't charge me with concealed weapon because "the pocket clip was showing"."

"I asked the RCMP officer if he considered a swiss army knife a "weapon" and he said NO! He said "I consider any knife you can open with one hand, a weapon."

Let's try again.

Do carry a folder that's longer the legal limit or are you legal where you live?

Just answer the question and stop arguing.

Sadly, in quite a few American cities exactly the opposite is true. NYC is the worst, they specifically teach and encourage patrol officers to look for knives being carried. Through the warped, modified and generally just plain made up definition of what a "gravity knife" is, the standard practice in NYC has basically become that if it folds and it locks open then you're getting arrested.
