Do you actually use your swiss army knives?

I would think that this question would be more suited towards other knives. Considering the majority of environments, occupations, lifestyles, etc. people are much, much more likely to use a SAK on any given day than you are a traditional folder or fixed blade.

It's just more fun to talk about (and play with) some of the new, over-priced, cool and sexy looking knives. The guys who are new to knives and/or knife forums shouldn't be deceived by all the talk about $80-300 folding knives by skipping over a SAK that is much more useful for 4-10x less money. Get a SAK first, then add on from there and have fun.

Heck yeah.I carry a Sportsman everyday.I still want to carry other knives, so they get rotated and I carry two knives.

Rarely, I usually have a Spyderco around which is more convenient. I do however have a Champion plus for desk duty, in the rare cases I need scissors or magnifying glass. Other than that I like collecting the Alox models and also have a Swisstool Spirit in the toolbox.

I carry a Leatherman Micra and a Victorinox Centurion. The screwdrivers on both get used often to screw and unscrew things at the back of computers and monitors. Since the Micra has god scissors, I'm going to replace the SAK with a single-blade slipjoin once I save enough (I have my eye on a red bone CV Slimline Trapper from Case).
I'm not sure I've ever used the tweezers or tootchpick or corkscrew in a SAK but I've used every other tool at least once in the last year or so.

Yup, in fact just today I was in the shed and needed to do something my Spyderco Para wasn't fitted for - loosen a screw. Since I didn't also have a SAK in my pocket it was back to the garage, move my truck, get the wife's car out of the garage so I could open my toolbox, open the toolbox, get a screwdriver, back out to the shed... Granted, kind of extreme, but it was a huge PITA. By the way, left the screwdriver in the shed for the next time. ;)

sak's are only good for little boys. I've never carried or really used a sak. Ive alwasy felt they were never up to the task and couldnt risk one breaking on me. If you have ever seen someone try to cut thru a leadrope with a tiny blade which bends... well it's laughable at best. at worst someone could litterally die if you can't cut that rope right now!

Them's fightin' words :p.

It's all about using the right tool for the job. So what if it won't cut a leadrope? That reflects more poorly on you for choosing the wrong tool than it does on the SAK. I've never had to cut a leadrope, and I doubt I will ever have to. I don't even know what a leadrope is.

For ME, a SAK makes a wonderful EDC. It meets MY needs, is small and friendly, and simply vanishes into a pocket.

It saw quite a bit of use in the kitchen this Thanksgiving. It opened two or three bottles of wine, and it's absolutely hilarious to have a can half open before someone finds the dedicated can opener.

I've found that the saw is a passable bread knife. The bottle opener is also nice. The awl is actually amazingly useful as well.

Part of my edc is a Vic classic on my keys and I also use My sportsman quite a bit camping and around the kitchen !!!

Wow !! Idk about yours but my Vic is a pocket scalpel and would slice through a lead rope in one easy pass !!! It's not a hd blade but I'd rather not use a really thick blade for slicing rope either !!

Does anyone know of a swissarmy knife with both the metal and wood saw, a large blade and both screwdrivers? I want a more utility one to put in my backpack but I don't want one literally as big as my fist like the swisschamp.

For the past 25 years I've almost never left the house without a SAK in my pocket! I don't think I would've done that if I didn't regularly had a use for it...it's that simple!

Sounds like you want the Vic Locksmith. I don't know if there is a Wenger counterpart.

I guess it depends on the right tool for the right job. You don't always need a large blade for small tasks. Not everyone is in life and death situations like you!

The Vic soldier is the knife that's in my pocket the most. The blade is just big enough be useful, but not big enough to scare anyone. the awl is also a tool that I use for a number of tasks.

Victorinox Ranger sounds like the closest - as long as you can use the small slotted screwdriver on the can opener on philips screws then it fits the bill nicely. Unless you are OK with moving up to an 111mm model like the Locksmith that kozak6 suggested.

Durka-durr, you're not a man unless you carry a BIG honkin' knife, I reckon. Boy-howdy.

Obvious troll is obvious...:barf:

I see you have an Alox Farmer + scissors in there. Scibeer? That would be my idea of a perfect SAK.

Yessir, I had scibeer make that for me when he and Tim aka FelineVet over on SAK sub-forum on Knife Forums did a special run of HA III Farmer scales. I had him put the low-ride pocket clip on it for me too. He (Scibeer) calls the Farmer with scissors a Stalker so the model is known as the Scibeer Stalker (a little play on words). I've been told that he's retired from modding now though.

I don't know if that was said as a joke but if you were serious you just insulted most of us SAK users here. Good going! I guess you're saying then that the entire "Swiss Army" are a bunch of little boys? Not all of us knife users need a big bad blade to go whacking everything in site.
What can I say? Ignorance is bliss I guess.
