Do you bring your knife to Church?

KaBar, this has been an otherwise respectful discussion of a contentious issue, and it's in the Blade Discussion Forum, not Whine & Cheese. Show a little retraint with the vulgarity.

The few times I go to church, I always carry one of my nice knives, like my AG Russell or my Kershaw Splinter. As long as you are at least paying attention to the mass, and not playing with the knife in the pew, I think that it's okay to carry one to church. The problem I have with the kids leaving their knives on a log is the fact that some might get stolen. That would create a real problem for you! I too know a few Rabbis that go to temple armed, but they leave their gear in their cars, but still carry a small pocket knife. I was raised Catholic, my priest carries a little Schrade Old Timer, the visiting priests carry knives, I guess it's just a rural thing, what is kosher in suburban and urban areas? Also, I agree with Alberta Ed, my church is the four winds under the shining sun that God created.

I go to church like I go to work... prepared (hopefully) for whatever I might need to do. That includes whatever blade(s) I think might be useful that day. I don't consider knives to be weapons... not mine, anyway. They are tools, like my pen, a screwdriver, or a key. Wherever I go, all those things go.

Hey Guys...

This is something that really shoots up my BP(Not to be confused with Baden Powell). I've been a Scout leader for 5-6 years 1st/2nd Harrow.

I have in the beginning of my scouting career followed this rule by hammering several of my Busses into the log in fear of it being lifted especially when the knives were out of direct site..This raised some eyebrows as usually my knives do. I expressly go heavy when I go to any scouting event.

I then started refusing to follow this rule, and excused myself from church.

My knives I wear to Scouts are "tools" and not "Weapons" and won't budge from that.. I've told them when I start wearing weapons, I will leave them behind at church.

I have also expressed to my youth that the knives they use are not weapons any more than their walking sticks are weapons, and to Always refer to them as tools, and refuse to let them be called Weapons at any time, whether it is at camp, on the street or where ever.

It's an absolutely stupid rule that was thought up by some pin head somewhere within the Canada Scouting outfit...

This is the result of the pussification of our youth and our society in general...

I will say this,, I did get a kick of seeing a Battle Mistress hammered into a log surrounded by SAKS and small fixed blades.

I'm a law abiding citizen and I see no problem to carry a knife into the church (or any other place for that matter).

I seldom attend any kinda services any more, but when I do I generally carry whatever I would anyways....well...usually...I will admit to not wanting to carry any fixed blades with me, due to general tackiness, but, that being said, Skirmish, AFCK, Lone Wolf, Shabaria, and pretty much whatever other folder fits my mood (Gibb Maxx? :D ) Considering some of the incredibly informal stuff I've seen worn into churches up here, if you can find a way to get bounced outta one, you have waaaaaay far outdone yerself.

For alot of Weddings and Funerals, I still have no problem carrying a knife. If it's a friend, they know me, and thusly know I can be trusted with a sharp toy, if they aint a friend, then I reckon I don't much care whether attend thier ocassion or not.

I figure God and me got this issue straightened out when I was still in my teens.

taulpaul,

That's a gorgeous Sebbie you have there.

I keep my EDC on me when I head to church. Like most others have said, knives are tools, not weapons. If it were legal, I would wear my pistol to church -- but we meet at a middle school. I see no problem with either.

I'm perhaps a day late and dollar short on this one, but I carry anything I want in my synagogue.

"and it came to pass from that time onward, that half my servants did the work and the other half held the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the coats of mail......

they who buitl the wall, and they who bore the burdens, loaded themselves in a way that one of his hands labored in the work, and the other bore a weapon.....

So neither I, nor my brethren, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard who followed me, none of us put off our clothes: everyone brought his weapon with him, even to the water."

if it is good enough for the king's cupbearer, it's good enough for me.

I have learned over the years in my profession that if your not prepared, you'll wished you would have been. Church is no exception. :)

I dont go to any churches, but if I would do so my knife would be with me.
No reason to keep it outside..

I've been mildy questioned in the past as to why I bring my folder to a wedding or funeral or whatever other reason I might attend a church and my reply is the same one I learned back in the Boy Scouts "Be Prepared" :)

If you checked the people at my church in the US you would find nearly half of the congergation carrys a knife or multi-tool. It ranges from stockmen models to tactical folders and various multi-tools.

Here it is safe to assume everyone has a knife and most of us are armed with at least a 9mm. :D

Generally, things need to be fixed often in a church. A SAK is very useful, especially if you are involved in the music etc. A small SAK or traditional SJ is a good thing, all the time. I don't consider them weapons at all.
I used to carry my LM on my belt, and nobody cared...came in handy too.

Yeah... I generally carry a Swamp Rat Rat Trap, Cuda Maxx 5.5, BM Skirmish, CRKT Sampsons kiss (Money clip), Queens Cutlery trapper, and occasionally a fixed blade. Granted, I carry this everyday and it's always fun when my buddies ask "So how many you have on you today?" 5 or so. They laugh.

They know I am a knife nut and besides, I don't wave them around like an idiot. :D That, and it reminds me to be thankful for what I have

i dont go to church but if i did , i would bring my blade just in case someone needed their throat cut.
Cool. I havent went to church in a few years, but I would bring my knife, but it would be in my pocket, not clipped to it or in a pouch. what people dont know wont hurt em'

If I'm not carrying a knife I'm either a) on an airplane or b) not wearing pants.

So, to answer the question...of course I wear pants to church!

ditto here. Yeah!
I take my knife to church, a folder. I keep it in my pocket, some of the elders aren't too keen on knives. I view it as a tool...not a weapon, unless it needs to be :D
I used to carry upwards of 5 knives with me on a day to day basis, but I soon ran out of pockets with other stuff needing in. I now carry 3.
