Do you EDC a Mega Folder?

As is taking offense to people simply offering their opinion about why they don't carry a "mega" folder. :)
I don't see anyone in this thread taking offense. But if it's me you're referring to, I remarked about the 'millie' pushers, not about unwarranted and unasked opinions. :)

I EDC this super commander when I'm heading out on a hike. The Barlow is in pic as a size comparison.

I like to EDC a megafolder along with a normal folder. I use to carry the 6" tilite but lately it has been the rajah II along with a sog trident

I carry a Rajah 1, large Espada, 6" ti-lite, Vaquero Grande, Sog 5" pentagon and spec-elites, Spartan, and BM Rukus. I often also carry one of my 6 Emersons although none of them are over 4". I'd like to get the Super 8- only the price has kept me from getting one so far. [ also ,I have the regular 8, and I wonder if I would ever carry it again if I had the super]
I wear fairly loose clothing, so carrying a large folder has never been a problem, and even people who carry knives themselves have never noticed, as far as I know. When I pointed out that I was carrying the large Espada ,to a guy who's very much SD oriented, he exclaimed " that thing doesn't print at all!'
I just don't feel comfortable carrying a small folder, to me it's like wearing a cloth cap when I'm riding my bike, when I could be wearing a helmet.

I bought a 6" Vaquero just because it was on sale and I didn't have anything in that size. It's rather light for its size, and not hard to carry. But I honestly don't find it all that useful when compared to smaller knives. In fact, if I'm going to dedicate that much pocket space to a knife, I'd rather pack something like an RC-3 fixed blade. From a utility standpoint, I have no use for such a big folder.

As an SD tool, however, I like it a lot. The extra reach and cutting power are a good thing, for sure.

I think any knifeknut should own at least one ridiculously large folder. They are fun and make great conversation pieces if nothing else.

I EDC a 5.5" Camillus CUDA MAXX in the summer and 7" MAXX in the winter. The pockets in my long pants are deeper than the pockets in my shorts. If I can find a 9" MAXX, I will probably have to make some special pants. All of the measurements listed are blade lengths.

I sorta draw my line at 5.5"

any responces to this belong in W&C

Largest, heaviest folder I've carried is either the Cold Steel Ti-Lite or the Byrd Cara-Cara with G10 scales. While I don't mind the weight associated with a stout folder, I just don't see the need for carrying such a large folding knife. Ended up giving away both the Ti-Lite and Cara-Cara.

Most of the knives I carry these days are in the two to three inch range, with a Svord peasant knife and Cold Steel Canadian Belt knife as exceptions.

Lemme know if you want your Cara Cara waved. I won't charge anything beyond shipping.

The largest I've ever carried is the Rajah I and I can't say I carry it often. I will say if you carry that one around for a while it does carry well, much better than I would have though for how big it actually is but the best part about lugging one of these around is that something like a ZT301 at 8 ounces seems lightweight after you've had this monster on you for a day or so. Its almost like wearing ankle weights for a day and then removing them. :D My EDC firearm weighs less than this Rajah I so carrying it is something I only am doing when I'm working in the yard and feel like I might just want it for some quick light chops or to test some meat I'm cooking on the grill for being done the way I want them. I've found the long handle and blade really make reaching into the hot grill area a lot more comfortable. Before that the longest folder I ever carried was probably a Harsey D2 DA from Lone Wolf. I had a Millie but unloaded it so quick it hardly counts.

i carried the cuda maxx bowie for years. still have 2 in my bunch & carry on ocassion. this biggie carries real nice for a 5.5 in. blade, it was one of my 1st flippers & sold me on the flipper mech. for quick opening.

The only 2 folders I have with 5" or longer blades are the Gunsite and Rajah 1.

I don't see anyone in this thread taking offense. But if it's me you're referring to, I remarked about the 'millie' pushers, not about unwarranted and unasked opinions. :)

Yeah that is pretty pathetic...

The Cuda Maxx's carried real well due to their thiness, and real, real well if you purchased the DR designed foldover clip from Knifekits.com that was made to fit this knife.

The only way I'll carry a mega folder is if it will carry deep. I would never be able to carry the retribution 1 if I had not fitted it with a fold-over clip at the rearmost part of the handle.

As mentioned above by Larry Turko, the key to carrying a mega folder is in the clothing, that is if you do not want anyone to know you are carrying a mega folder, and with loose fitting clothing it is really a cinch to get by without the knife printing. I have carrying my retribution 1 for the past several weeks to work and have yet to have anyone make a comment, or even notice. I wear loose kakhi type pants, shirt, and tie to work. Course if I need a knife to work with, I pull out the medium Case slipjoint that I always carry in my left front pocket.

Guess I just got a thing for them mega's!!:D:thumbup:

Cold Steel Vaquero Grande

Carried one of those things in the late 90s or early 00s. Was good but figured if had to conceal that much folder, I'd go with a fixed blade instead.

Went back to ~4" folders and added a 3-4" fixed blade. If I could only find one of those Buck Strider FBs that went out of production not too long ago...

I carry a CS Black Rhino,,and a Rat 1 at all times,,,yeah to big and to much for most,,but it works for me,

I regularly EDC my Harsey T3 in the belt sheath. However I much prefer a fixed blade for EDC. The folder is for when I have to appear civilized.

I quite often carry my RJ Martin Trooper. 4 1/4 blade and 5 1/4 handle very

comfortable for me to carry. I have other big edc knives I carry on a

regular basis.
