Do you only carry a knife to use?

I dont see the need to cary two knives. I cary a folder every day, I have been rotating a native 5 when I'm out about town and a PM2 when Im working on projects, I use them fairly often but also enjoy having them. I have other knives but they mostly sit in the closet.

Well... LOL I think my sig makes it ckear why I carry... and I carry multiple knives for multiple purposes...
Today its a Leatherman Juice CS4, a Kershaw Scallion, a Benchmade 835-07/00, and a custom Fixed EDC. all of them may get used in a given day, depending on what tasks come up. From cutting foods for lunch to open letters, to trimming plastic parts, to opening boxes to breaking them down, to cutting wire... etc...

This is the General knife forum. We don't need to know nor do we care how you act at work. Keep your comments on topic or don't post. Clear?

Not really. The OP is asking if we carry knives every day to use, or just to carry. Most of us spend (almost) everyday at work, so what we do for work has a direct relationship with if we carry and use a knife everyday . Does the word "work" offend you? I'm sorry if you've recently lost your job, but you shouldn't take it out on others. Clear?

Quoted for posterity. I would ask what you want on your tombstone, but sharks leave nothing to be buried.

I carry several knives, my favorites are my 720 950 and 710. I have a LM Blast, but just recently got a LM Micra. Out in the woods, shotgun, since little knives don't scare moose, bears or anything else that could kill me or my girls.

If I feel like carrying two, I carry two.
If I feel like carrying one, or three, I carry that many.
If two, why not one curved and one straight? Or one serrated and one plain edge?
Or one big and one small? Or one big, and one huge?
:D

I carry a knife either because I know I will have to use it at some point in the near future or because, while I don't foresee the need for a knife, I want to have one handy in case the need should arise.

I only carry one at a time, and I am always ready to put it to use (I don't keep any 'safe queens' or show pieces). With that in mind, I usually carry something beefier if I know I'm going to need to use it a fair amount, or I'll carry something smaller and more discreet if I don't expect to have to use it. So, if I'm going to work, I'll usually bring something like a Para 2 or Manix 2. If I'm just running errands or whatever, I'll just bring a SAK 90% of the time.

I always go out the door with 2 folding knives in my pocket. In my right front pocket is a large, single bladed knife that has a pocket clip ... Very, very rarely does it get pulled out to use. ... the smaller one is a slipjoint that has a closed length between 3.5" to 4.0". This is the knife that get used when I have need of a knife. Cutting string, sharpening a pencil, or cutting paper are the main chores of my knife use.

I was like you. Then I sold off all my one-hander pocket-clip knives and went all traditional slipjoint.

I think I must have some form of autism. All I do is answer the OP, and then ask a mod a question, and I'm going to be banned??

Anyway, I'v bought a knife into work today as an experiment. I'll let you know how often I find a use for it....I still think my boss is going to have words again!

I give this one a week.

Make sure you aren't breaking company policy by bringing a knife to work.

You don't know me so keep your assumptions to yourself.

Junk like this is never going to fly here. I don't care if you agree or not. In fact, I was kind by posting a gentle warning to you. I think trolling infractions are better suited.

Women just have no sense of humour when it comes to a playfull slap on the arse when requesting she puts the kettle on.

I even had a complaint from the work experience girl after I told her that statistically speaking, 9 out of 10 people enjoy gang-rape.

I usually carry 2.5 knives.... A slipjoint in one front pocket, and a locking blade clipped to the other. The 0.5 is a Vic money clip that technically has a knife blade, but is used for the money clip and scissors.

All the "traditional" slipjoints over time (stockmans, congress, canoes, peanuts, etc.), have been replaced by Vic SAKs. They are just way too handy not to carry. Having said that, 90 - 95% of my cutting is done by the locking blade, usually a Spyderco Caly 3. It's just too handy not to use, and it cuts just as well, if not better, than any of my slipjoints. Plus, it's steel is much better, cutting down on sharpening time.

PS - Thanks Morrow!

It's not a lack of respect. It's sometimes they get big ideas in their head and we all no how dangerous that can be. I even had a complaint from the work experience girl after I told her that statistically speaking, 9 out of 10 people enjoy gang-rape. Threatening suppliers with a knife would be the final straw I think.

You must be in jest, sorta pulling our leg so to speak. I could not see ever telling a woman I work with that fact! Rape is bad enough, but gang-rape.......:thumbdn::barf:

That said, It appears that I am not the only crazy carrier out here. That is a good thing!

I posted as soon as I read this post so I didn't see what else had been said, or what was done. Sorry about that.

I also wanted to say that I don't carry the big folder just as a showpiece, as it would be used if my slipjoint can't handle the job. It's just that I rarely have a need to use it, but I take every opportunity to show it to select people.

Luckily for us, the idiot got himself banned.

In celebration, I'm putting another knife in my pocket.:D

First, thanks Morrow.

Second, I carry 4 to 5 knives daily, in an office environment, from a Vic Classic to a ZT 0560. Discreetly. The onrbthatngets the most use is a Vic Soldier.

ETA- wow, typing on an iPad sucks! That in italics is supposed to read "one that gets!"
