I voted "another way".

If the whole bag is to be dispensed into a bowl I prefer the landscape mulch method:
Use a knife to slice the bag laterally at its midsection, roll it over and lift up the ends to dump out the chips.

If only a modest serving (it could happen!) is required, I use kitchen scissors.

Potato chips are tool-less by design. To involve a utensil is to deny their convenience perfection. We may as well cut open a banana.

usually can rip most bags open at the top seam...

some newer types (kettle chips?) use extra thick bags, so knife is utilized of course

yall make so much ado about nothing lol

My Dad used to put the bag flat on the table then make a slice the long way down the front of the bag, Then a cut at the top and bottom ( H shaped) , then lay the bag out flat like a plate.

I pull the top apart gently. So I chose other.

Depends. If I open from the end then I do it by hands. Sometimes I cut the side open so that the bag becomes a tray (party mode).

I mean if you are carrying a knife, why pass up an opportunity to use it. If you have an auto knife, it's even more important to whip it out and watch your friends/family/co workers eyes open wide when the blade goes SNICK!
