If you open the potato chip bag with a knife you will have to put your knife away before you eat a chip.
Sez who?? While I'm a bag tearer, if I did knife it I would likely just set the knife down, still open, so as not to waste even more time.

Now that we have established that using a knife is the correct way to open a bag of chips (and that we have been invaded by barbarians) the best blade shape should be discussed.

Or not, because a clip point is obviously best, a spear point will get you by and tantos are just silly. Can you even open a bag of chips with a spey blade? What kind of degenerate would even try?

Ahem...

I don't think you guys really know what you're talking about. By far the most sensible way to open a bag of chips is to first poke a small hole in it and then use a gut hook.

Hawksbill, obviously... That sucker will keep cutting even if it hits a rough spot of mylar. It will just gather and cut. Serrated - no problem, straight edge - no problem.

This is probably definitely closing in on perfection for a chip bag knife.
Titanium coated 😍

I think you’re right. And I don’t have one of those. So you know how this is gonna end up. Thanks a lot.

Excellent point.
I would set the blade down as well but might forget it and stand up but it was resting on my knee and fell to the ground once or thrice. I'm trying to put them back in their sheath right away so i dont foolishly drop them later.

Trilling is what a song bird does. I'm sure we'd love to hear it. ;)

Trolling is the word intended.

I took a vacation trip one time by air, didn't want to put a nice knife in my checked luggage so didn't bring one. We bought some snacks, maybe chips but I don't remember, but anyway we couldn't open them!

I don't pull that stunt anymore, I have a few cheap knives I can bring even if there is a chance of losing it.

Some of these bags require an Iron Kung Fu grip to pull apart followed by an explosion of chips all over the place. Using an on hand pocket knife to simply cut the bag open just makes more sense.
