.......Oh tater chips........ them too.

I definitely do. If I didn't utilize a knife on little tasks of this nature, I would barely use a knife at all. Being a member of the Laptop Class (TM) means there are usually very few opportunities to use a knife in my daily life, so I have to take these small joys where I can find them!

A former Marine I kn ow said that he used a Randall #16-1, their "Special Fighter", to open MRE bags while in Irqaq.

Did any bad guys see him do it because the blade wasn't coated?

Well no. I have previously written on this boatd that I had a local gunsmith bead-blast it down to a uniform non-reflective grey.
If you wish, I'll try to message you the piece I wrote about my experience buying knives for that Marine. I hesitate to re-publish it openly here to avoid being called for Trolling. Recall that my issue with RM back in 2003 was that they were unresponsive in any way, not even to suggest a solution I could pursue on my own.

Not sure I have the messaging privilege on this board though.

Trilling is what a song bird does. I'm sure we'd love to hear it. ;)

Send him a message without a link to his profile and you'll be just fine.

Now that we have established that using a knife is the correct way to open a bag of chips (and that we have been invaded by barbarians) the best blade shape should be discussed.

Or not, because a clip point is obviously best, a spear point will get you by and tantos are just silly. Can you even open a bag of chips with a spey blade? What kind of degenerate would even try?

Hawksbill, obviously... That sucker will keep cutting even if it hits a rough spot of mylar. It will just gather and cut. Serrated - no problem, straight edge - no problem.

This is probably definitely closing in on perfection for a chip bag knife.
Titanium coated 😍
