Do you use a knife at work?

Every day. Cutting open boxes, pallet straps, pallet wrap, tape, etc. I'd be lost at work without a knife.

Only guy in an office full of women. Carry an Emerson Commander in my pocket most days, and keep a Leatherman handy. They've gotten so used to asking me to cut things, fix things and work on things that they are amazed when they ask me to do something and I tell them I'll have to bring the tools from home and do the job the next day.
I guess they think I keep all the tools in the world in my bike's saddlebags, including powertools... (I do have a hammer and some other useful bits and pieces and there, so I guess there's some reason to it)

Essentially, you are saying that you are able to keep many women satisfied all day long...wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Ever consider that they might be enjoying inventing an endless supply tasks for you to complete? "If he can fix that...hmmmm";)

If the women dont find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

As a photographer, I don't use one on every assignment but always have a knife and multitool with me. Since I carry so much poundage on the job, I can't manage a tool kit, so anything of that nature has to fit in pockets or on my belt. When necessary, I find a one hand opening folder really convenient to cut lengths of seamless paper with one hand while holding the roll in place with the other, also for cutting gaffers tape, whittling and trimming wooden or cardboard props.

Leatherman pliers and screwdrivers have often come in handy to make on the spot equipment adjustments and repairs, saving a job on a couple of occasions and sometimes helping out a client, most recently while photographing a music convention. While I was in the auditorium waiting for the next performance, a guy approached me and asked if I had any tools. Some musicians had been struggling with a grand piano for some time, trying to remove the lid for an upcoming choir concert so both audience in front and singers behind could hear the piano. My Leatherman pliers did the job in seconds. (I wrote up this incident for the Leatherman "Tool Tales" column posted (?) in April 2010.) Another time on a wedding job my assistant/wife borrowed the Charge to make emergency repairs on a bride's something or other. Honestly, I don't know what had needed fixed, everything looked good when they finally emerged.

Yes I use one quite often at work. I carry a Leatherman with me, but usually use a box knife to cut stuff.

Do you use a knife at work?
By "Work" I mean 9-5 day to day job, Active duty Military, Leo's, FF, Field Craft Etc
Would you carry a knife if the Job allowed?

I work at a grocery/supplement store, so I am constantly opening boxes :)

I work in an office/retail environment and even though I have scissors, letter opener and X-acto knives within reach when I'm at my workstation or box cutters handy if I happen to be in the stockroom, I still have plenty of use for a pocket knife on a daily basis.

I need and use one everyday at my stink'n job. One of the few good things about it.

If i left the house without the swiss i'd go back and get it! It's the most used tool i got and saves me the wieght of the tool box the mag light is aways there also.Pluse if the convicted felions act out i am gonna leave a mark before the kill me

I used to get a lot of use out of my knives running cable, installing troughs, putting comm equipment into racks etc, but in my current position, as a Unit training manager, I get some weird looks for carrying a knife.

Luckily, my sense of humor has made most people just consider it a quirk and not a threat, but it took some work. I switched from carrying heavier knives to using a CRKT Eros now for my work edc. Small and gentlemanly enough, especially compared to the Cold Steel Spartan I carried for a few weeks. ;)

I still get to open packages, but mostly MRE's, Paperboxes/reams, and the occasional clamshell from the b/x.

I'm a machinist and I carry one daily without fail...don't care if my boss dont like it, box cutters to me are useless, they go dull too quick and my work knife I just touch up each day if it needs it.

I wont work a job that bans me from using a knife in the work place, it says a lot about management.

I would if I could, but as it has been explained to me by our security officer if any employee is found with even a pocketknife it is grounds for Immediate dismissal. Leaving it in the car is ok, although a few times I have forgotten and had to stash it in my jacket pocket for the day. I work in a bank, btw, and think it's rather silly but their lawyers told them to do it to minimize liability.

Always remember NCIS Agent Gibbs Rule #9: "Don't go ANYWHERE without a KNIFE!"
