Does anyone else carry a "backup" or secondary blade?

Love the Shiro man 👍
Something about that grey I really like.

I never considered carrying a backup knife. I guess if i did it would be one of my leek's. I carry a spyderco military as my main blade.

im a knife noob and never could figure out why people carried 2-3 or even more knives daily...then it clicked...i carry a gun and a backup gun and a back up magazine for each...1 is none etc etc...

A large bowie/fighter of some sort and a traditional slipjoint cover 99% of my daily needs.

DAMNIT CM- that TGLB makes me chub...should really do that to mine!
My backup ladybug HAP40 lays harmlessly in the bottom of my pocket, is a friggin laser, handles a delightful amount of tasks, and offends nobody! :)

Currently, If I'm at work I carry a 940-2 or 941 and a leatherman wave. If I'm off work, usually only the 940-2. Or any other blade I feel like carrying that particular day. Unless I know that I'm going to be wanting/needing a beefier blade than a 940 Ill carry the 5400.

Always keep a few utilities/backups in the car if need arises.

I have a SAK in my pocket most of the time (like 95%). I add a modern folder sometimes to go with that. I also have added a traditional slip joint as a second knife. I don't feel like I'm missing anything if I only have the SAK on me. Regardless if I carry another blade, the SAK gets used for most cutting tasks. That begs the question, "Why do I bother with a second knife, ever?" Answer > I like knives.

I carry one knife, usually about 3 1/2 inches in blade length which is a good compromise for big and small jobs and small enough for convenient carry And, btw, it never seems to provoke any alarm in the general public. My edc usually takes care of 99% of my daily needs. (I can t even think of what the other 1% is ! )
I guess I carry a particular knife based on my anticipated need for the day, because my edc does vary somewhat in size from day to day. I usually prefer to make do with a larger knife for smaller jobs rather than a small knife for bigger jobs.

You actually get away with a knife that big in Fresno ? I live in farm country and the biggest I'm comfortable carrying is about 9".
That's an awesome looking fixed blade btw 👍

Yup... I been carrying a large fixed for a year now... Everywhere. No issues.

Yes he does. Not illegal.

I know it's perfectly legal, I was referring to not looking out of place or getting looks from people.
I'm sure I'd have no Problem carrying a knife that big if I needed it, but I'd feel a little awkward.

Look at me... I would look "out of place" if I DIDN'T have a large fixed blade on my hip!

I've started to carry a backup Chaparral lately with my Gayle Bradley and a BM 707 with my 710. I don't feel a need to carry a backup for my 940s. They're perfect all by themselves :D

That definitely true 😉 if I carried a fixed blade that big people would probably think I was either getting ready to go on a rampage or going to some sort of comic event.

CM is right, you have to go with a total fashion statement. If I were walking around with a large knife on my hip, someone would assume I had cracked and was about to go on a killing spree. For CM, they would just think he was accessorizing.

I really haven't had any negative feedback. I get a few "is that legal?" but that gives me the opportunity to clear up any misconceptions about state law if they're willing to listen. At my 12 step groups, I'm always hit up to cut stuff, especially at the end of the month ... Birthday meetings that always involve a cake and I have the largest knife in the room.

:D
