Does Anyone NOT Love The Sebenza ?

Sebenza's are kind of dull looking IMO. But the Mnandi's are quite nice looking, especially ones with Box Elder.

I don't own a Sebenza, nor have I ever handled one. That said, I doubt I'll ever purchase one, simply for the reason that their price approaches what I could pay for a truly custom, hand made knife, or even a really nice mid-tech, which is essentially what a sebenza is anyway.

Don't get me wrong... It seems like a well made knife. The materials are good. The tolerances are great. I like the design.

That said, I feel like there are plenty of other options the same kind of money that I would rather invest in.

You gotta love the post "i've never handled one but....."..lmao

And i think a Ferrari isn't worth the money, i can get to work just fine in a Prius

You don't need to own or handle something to know what it costs, how it works, or what you can buy for the same amount of money.

It's much in the same way that driving a Ferrari isn't going to magically convince you to sell your Prius and drop $200,000 on said Ferrari.

Then again, I could be wrong. Maybe the first time I open a Sebenza, everything will click and I'll just absolutely have to have one.

As someone pretty famous says, Haters gonna hate.

Another famous quote: A fool and his money..

For the price of one Sabenza I'd take 4 of these any day of the week:

I own exactly two CRK knives; a 2002 Sebenza and a 2011 Umnumzaan. I really like them both a lot, but I like the Umnumzaan more.

However, they're not for everyone. You either like em or you don't. I won't tell a naysayer, "You should buy one and handle it/try it for yourself. Then you'll know how great it is." I won't say that because everyone has their own taste, and if someone doesn't like it or want to buy it, then don't. It's that simple. There's plenty of other knives/brands out there if it's not your cup of tea.

That looks nice too. :)
Right now I have my Umnumzaan in my hand, and, although I cannot exactly explain why or how, it feels like a $400 knife.
It's about the only knife that the head lab tech where I was working said "Ooh, that's a very nice knife. You can feel the quality."
He would have NEVER paid $400 for one--or any other knife, for that matter--but he could see and feel the quality.
And that's a complete non-knife person.

I'll raise my hand as one who does not love the Sebenza.

I do not hate or even dislike it. It just does little for me, and it certainly does not provide a value to me that is commensurate to the price.

Many would disagree with me, that fact illustrates how value is a concept that is unique to every individual (some would probably pay more than the asking price, others might be willing to pay half).

They are nice pieces, they just do not suit my taste.

It is all about the ability to recognize nuances in quality, fit, finish, and functionality. Some have it, some develop it over time, and some never do.

Many people will have no sense of why someone would pay for a hand-tailored jacket or suit. Or why someone would pay for a fine bottle of wine. Or why someone would spend more than $50 for a pocketknife. Just the way the world works.

Don't hate us for having refined tastes. Our money fuels the high end knife economy :)

Does anyone know what a "Sabenza" cost and where i can get one? Sounds like a nice knife.

This sentiment gets posted every time this discussion arises and not only is it not accurate, it is insulting to anyone that chooses not to like the piece. It presumes that anyone that does not love the item being discussed is simply unable to "recognize nuances in blah blah blah", or they simply have not developed this fabulous ability yet.

I assure you, there are many of us that are very capable of understanding what is involved in design and build of such a knife. This understanding and recognition does not mandate the love of the Sebenza.

I do not hate or even dislike anyone that loves the Sebenza, I just do not share their passion.
