Does EDC actually mean Every Day Carry?

Since everyone's day is different, depending on profession and lifestyle, I'd say the term is wholly subjective as to design. A fisherman's EDC will look different from mine, but so long as the knife is purposed to the task required on the daily, it qualifies.

That said, this is my literal EDC. The blade is by Dylan Farnham. It's good for everything and fits discreetly in my waistband.

As an old dyed in the wool revolver guy, I LOVE that revolver!!!!

What is it and where can I get one?

I always thought the 1860 pattern Colt army was one of the most beautiful handguns ever made, but I've never seen one with a birdseed grip. Leave it to the Italians to make a repro that looks better than the original!

I think it falls into a category or at least something that is used and carried for a period of time or at least works into a rotation.

My EDC kit usually includes an OTF Microtech, a Leatherman multitool, and a set of knuckles "for luck;)).
Depending on the situation, that can change. However, day to day work attire, I pack a Leatherman P4 that has probably not been in my pocket less than 10 days over the past 2 years, and my EDC knife of the last 4 or 5 months has been a fully serrated Combat Troodon with a tanto point;) Great for rope at work.

However, I'm going over to my dad's today for Christmas. Family tradition is goofy loungewear (no pockets on mine), and I don't see the need to pack much of anything. The knuckles, the MT, and the Combat Troodon are being left at home...they'd weigh down my sweat pants even if I had a belt;) My EDC alternative for this a simple Ultratech clipped inside my waistband. Light, small, and more than enough to cut the copious amount of ribbon my daughter's gifts might have on them. It is a knife that I could easily carry as an EDC, but I prefer a bit more versatility for work or walking around town.

In short, EDC for me is more like selecting shoes/boots than a religious dogmatic carry. Case in point, I own three pair of work boots. One of the three gets put on 7 days a week. I have a pair of slip on boots for general office wear because they are comfortable and look nice enough for going on sales calls. I have a pair or lace up high tops for when I am out on the job and need more support. I have a pair of low top hiking boots for when I am going to be on my feet all day or off over the weekend. All three I would consider "daily" even if I dunno which ones I'll be putting on.

Honestly, the English language is almost infinitely flexible, partly because it's really just seven racoons in a trenchcoat pretending to be a language. Getting caught up in prescriptive definitions rather than descriptive ones is generally going to cause you grief and not have any effect whatsoever on how people use the term. Some people will use it literally, others as a category and still others as shorthand. It works for all of those and, realistically, is rarely going to cause much confusion if you're familiar with the term and concept in the first place.

EDC is a practice not a brand or model. I carry a knife every day. Along with some tools, a flashlight, a pen and more.

If one day I change from a folder to a fixed blade because I'm headed to the woods that doen't affect my mindset.

THIS!

To me, EDC is a state of mind, or a practice that you carry out daily. The items may change, depending on where and what you are doing. My EDC will varry from a small SAK and a NAA mini revolver around town, to a fixed blade and Ruger LCR or Smith and Wesson J frame when hiking in the woods or traveling across country by car. On vacation in Key West for fishing will be a different EDC than running errands around Georgetown Texas.

But no matter where I am or what I am doing, there will be a nice sharp knife on me, and a AAA flashlight and a few other items. If I'm working around the house, the small AAA Fenix is all I will have. Walking the dog at night I will have my bigger AA mag light with more output. But I will aways have some sort of flashlight on me as part of my EDC at that moment. Just the individual items will change depending on what I'm doing and where I'm doing it.

Looks to me to be a cut down Italian clone of the 1860 Colt Army. I think Pietta offers them like that from the factory...I think. I'm not sure if that is set up for cap and ball and it just doesn't have the caps on the nipples, or if he is running center fire adaptor. I would guess so since the cylinder is fluted and cap and ball is so slow to reload if need be. They aren't fast revolvers to reload in the best of times. Nearly impossible to do it on the fly if the barrel is so short that you don't have a loading lever :D

I’ve seen the 1860 and I think the ‘51 Navy on midway’s site.

I have several EDC choices. I don't think of an EDC blade as one knife I carry all day and everyday. For me it's any knife that I would feel comfortable doing so with but ultimately my EDC is a knife that could fit that mold but doesn't have to as long as I have options. For example if all I did was work around my house and didn't go out into this crazy world around some people that don't understand the practicality of having a good cutting tool on hand then maybe I would carry a decent sized fixed blade. But seeing is I do venturing out and see people that get skittish around knives and guns then I will carry my Bugout, Para 3 or even my ZT 0562. Can hide it until I need it and won't send people running for the hills when I open it to use it.

For me I distinguish between carry or use everyday and carry ALL day.

Like many others have said, I don't carry the same knife every day but I carry a knife every day. I usually have at least 2 items with blades on me.

At work, I usually do a SAK + MT. I use the tools as one of the "hey, can you fix this?" guys in the plant.

Outside of work, pocket knife and either a MT or SAK. Rarely do I carry all three.

I also try to figure out the day's activities and pick the "right" knife.
For normal office work: the Mnandi, Vapor, Valet, or Mini-Bugout.
For serious cardboard chopping: XM-18, Inkosi, Spyderco Military, or Manix 2. (They have S90V and S110V blades)
For anything heavier: the XM-18, or a solid fixed blade

I carry the same small knife every day for years at a time. The bigger folder gets swapped out from day to day but even then I tend to carry a knife for a week or two before changing things up. money clip is a knife and has been the same one for years. My pistol has been the exact same pistol for almost a decade and is only now on the chopping block to be upgraded. For me, EDC really does mean every day carry, and I take comfort in having the exact same kit in my pockets and bag every single day.

For the past year and counting I have carried the same pocket knife; the same CRK Mnandi has been in my pocket. For an office worker like me it handles pretty much all of my cutting chores. If I have something really nasty to cut up at home I grab one of the 2 "garage knives" hanging on the wall in my garage. They are fixed blades that I will use and if necessary abuse.

I carry a simple Vic Recruit everyday and I have other knives that are more suited to unique situations that could be carried in addition to not instead of. EDC to me means exactly that, a knife that is so well suited to my lifestyle that I carry it everyday and everywhere.

I hope you haven't trademarked this phrase! 🤣

It's so true, and yet some of us still get the involuntary eye twitches when people use it "wrong" just the same!
