Dogs and traditional knives

Great dogs everyone. This is my boy Gump - named because he just feels like goin' for a little run. I rescued him just over a year ago specifically to be my running partner. He enjoys that job! He's been on trail runs with me as long as 13 miles, but he doesn't enjoy the heat very much, so we cut down on his mileage during the summer.

Heelers are the best as far as I'm concerned.

This is my first one. I read your post earlier in the thread saying heelers fall into 2 camps. Mine definitely falls into the barely tolerating most people except me camp (including my wife). But he's a great dog. Super smart, loyal, sticks around the yard without running away, and never once used the bathroom in the house. Managing his energy can be a job, but I knew that going in.

My old Blue Heeler was that way... she barely tolerated me. 😁
My new Red Heeler is the exact opposite, he likes everybody and anybody.

Yep I had a red that can be notorious for that. As they are strong willed best tip I'd give, is have the least confident person train them. My wife is not a big dog person but she was able to tell him "to go sit in the corner" & he would stay till told otherwise. our current dog listens to her and she only ever speaks softly😉

ACDs and Border Collies are on nearly every farm here in Iowa. The best part about that is only the good working dogs are bred, so a fine example is easily found in the local papers for a fair price. I’ve had a couple heelers, been around many, and every one was brilliant…you can almost see their wheels turning when they’re interested in something.

Admittedly I mainly use my traditional’s as apple/fruit knives and the majority of the time it’s used splitting apples or cutting apples for my Amstaff, Iris. It’s funny. When she hears the “snap” of my traditional knives opening her eyes and ears perk up knowing/thinking an apple will surely follow shortly haha. Dogs are the best.
