I have one too Dubz. They are a nice little knife. I think they are marketed as a skinning knife, but would do well on squirrels and such.

My father in law got 2 of them for joining the NRA. He gave me one.

I'm having a tough time finding a good, affordable small game knife. There's plenty of options if you want to spend over $120 bucks on one, though.
I know I tout this often, however get a Rock n Roll Knife & Tool 85%. You might be able to talk him into a 75% blade on a 85/100% handle...

Great thanks so much!
It's a great blade eh? It just feels more solid than the FFG.

LMAO good one!! well played.
Oh, we're playing a game?

I can't believe how many problems I have with this forum. I spend more time on other forums, simply because I can't get this one to work half the time. The others work fine. Frustrating...

Thats not necessarily so, Todd. We all hide things... our passwords, bank account numbers, our PIN's, social security numbers, etc. Hiding something keeps it protected, and prevents others from using it. Distillers hide their whiskey recipes, beer brewers hide their recipes... ad nauseum.

Fact is, while a lot of you fellers are experts in metallurgy, and dismiss Busse claims of a magical heat treat process, you do not really know. Lets face it, its conceivable that he has perfected some science that yields a better and/or more economical way to treat steel. Science makes new discoveries every day. Maybe Jerry Busse is a pioneer in metallurgy. I don't know. Its not my field of expertise. He could have a specific scientific process that could be patented under intellectual property. Maybe he has a specific process that he uses and believes produces the best results for his product, and markets it thusly, but in reality is no better than anything else? If thats the case, every manufacturer could be accused of hype.

Maybe it is all marketing hype, maybe all he does is saw up a shape, polish it, slap some handles on it and sell it as the successor to Excalibur. I don't know, nor am I defending him. Why is it wrong to be a successful business man? I don't care for some of his tactics, but, it is not my business. What's more, no one is twisting anyones arm to buy his gear. It always seems like a lot of folks get a "mad on" over them. Todd, please understand I am not attacking anyone, especially not you. I get when someone thinks its dishonest to sell something under the pretense that it is something its not, I agree. But without knowing for sure, isn't that like finding him guilty without a trial?

If the guy is successful at his business, good for him. Its the American way. If he lies, shame on him. Who among us, has walked a mile in his shoes and can say what goes on behind Busse and kin shop doors? Trademarking a hole?.. I have my doubts as to the legitimacy of that. Certainly could litigate over it, hell anyone can sue anyone for anything. Intel sued AMD when AMD called their CPU a 486 as a copyright infringement. They lost. Court ruled you cannot copyright a number, hence the reason the Pentium name was born. Copyright a hole?... I wouldn't think so. Trademark it? If you got the money ..

But I digress.

The point I guess... hiding something doesn't make one dishonest.

Wow, O.k. let me see if I can cover all the bases here. You know, I read through your post and the whole time I'm thinking, "I don't disagree with anything you say" as a matter of fact, I don't really disagree with a whole lot that has been said the last 24 hrs by anybody. I think we are all like minded, and while we all have things that suite our personal needs none of us are off the charts or too far away on our thinking. We all just have different paths and opinions of how we get to our conclusions.

Let me back up. first of all. I'm nobody, O.K. My opinion is just that. a opinion. if you don't like it, it doesn't matter anyway because it doesn't mean shit. I am not and probably will never be in the position in the knife industry that Jerry Busse, Ethan Becker, Jerry Fisk, (the list is endless,) are in. However I would like to think that I have the same right to express my opinion, (just like all of you do). I remeber a time when I could come here and bullshit among friends and it was fun. Now I/we gotta defend every word we say even when we agree with the masses but question logic.

I have never been to Busses sub forum. Never really care to . He may in fact be the best thing that ever happened to the knife industry and rainbows might beam out of his ass, your right I don't know. I do have my opinion thought. However, I have no dought that he is in the position he is in because he's a excellent business man and I have no dought he sells a good product. Just not for me, and that's why I don't frequent his forum. But how am I in the wrong to question Busse logic if I'm continuously gonna have his product shoved down my throat on a forum I do frequent?

I understand that some of you are Busse fans, and that's fine. Great! Fantastic! Don't know what else you want me to say. I personally don't get it. But I believe I have that right as well as the right to question the logic. I just don't get it. I m sorry if my words aren't delicate enough for you guys, but I've seen a lot harsher stuff in joking around I thought it could be handled maturely. If I was wrong, I'm sorry, I never meant to cause anything negative to what was at least at one time, a great place to hang out.

I don't feel as I have been rude to anyone. As a matter of fact I have walked on eggshells with a select few to avoid conflict. Doesn't mean anybody is a bad person. Sometimes people and ideas conflict. Part of life. But if I can ask simple questions or question certain logics here. Point me in the direction fellas.

I don't really disagree, per se. I think for me, the issue comes in the way he handles his business compared to my experience with most of the rest of the industry. Dan Keffeler is a great example. When I was first trying to find a new steel that I could use for heat treating, and getting pointed towards 3V, I didn't know much about it (and really, still don't). Dan put his info up on the forum, and told me to call him. I spent an hour on the phone with him, while he explained the metallurgy behind 3V, answered every question I could think of and several that I hadn't, and then told me I was welcome to use his heat treat protocol, which he had spent much time with Brad Stallsmith at Peters Heat Treat developing and testing, tweaking, refining, and so forth, until it was perfect. The quality of Dan's 3V is pretty well known, and he could very easily have handled things very differently. And, personally, that's one heck of a sales pitch to me. I wouldn't hesitate, if I had the money, to buy one of Dan's blades.

And he's hardly the only one. Uncle E spent a good amount of time talking to me about how I could improve the Bush sword I sent out to the Gathering. Darrin Sanders helped me get started, not only with heat treating, but also by critiquing my work and letting me know where I needed to improve and giving me little tips. James Terrio has helped with advice, Mark at Burl Source has spent probably hours on the phone with me helping me with my woodworking, and y'all know how much Todd and Daizee are willing to help someone in need. Stacy Apelt regularly sends new makers steel for free, even entire kits including steel, file, etc. NickWheeler has posted some epic WIP threads that many of us have found very educational. My experience of the industry, at least on BladeForums, is that the makers tend to be very willing to help, share knowledge, etc. The knifemaking community is probably the most generous group I've ever encountered, considering that they're so willing to help people who are ostensibly their competition.

I have talked to Jerry on the phone as well, but that was just so he could make sure I didn't drill any more holes in my guards if I was planning on selling them. I understand where he's coming from, and of course complied, but I was not happy that, when I had made the suggestion that I could fill the holes on some that I'd made already with some mosaic pins, that his first course of action was to go straight to his lawyers and figure out a way to swing it so that he could attempt to prevent that sort of fix as well. I make like 20 blades a year. I don't generally do commissions. And I see big production companies like United Cutlery drilling holes in their guards on a regular basis. To me, in comparison with how open and generous the other makers have been, that felt like bullying. I don't deny he makes a good knife, and has a successful business model. However, I personally do not wish to ever do business with any of his companies, since there are so many other great makers to support. YMMV. Outside of a select group of makers who are on my wish list, I only buy Beckers for fixed blades, and a significant reason for that is how friendly Ethan is, and how committed he and Ka-bar are to their customers.

Anyine know anything about meat grinders? I ordered an LEM stainless #10 manual grinder for my mom for Xmas and its too darn big. She just needs something to grind up small amounts of roast and such. Any suggestions?

depends on whether or not Todd and I have a trade going.

We still got it Eric. I just haven't said anymore to about it because I won't be able to even think about starting your project until after Christmas. I'm beyond swamped until then.

I bought this little Buck on clearance. It's a great small game blade called the Waterfowler.

You might keep an eye out for a US-made Sharpfinger or Lil' Finger. Heck, you might run up on one of these at a yard sale or flea market. Don't mess with the newer Chinese stuff.

I've recently been checking out Dan Kefflers stuff. Pretty impressive. Good to hear he sounds like a stand up guy.

A Busse sale shut it down for a little while. Back up and running now...

no worries - I am well aware you have a backlog - if it's not ready until the spring gathering I'll probably survive.
