Don't Regret the Snark

I have no gun cabinet, so mine are in different places right now. And I don't have a dresser or any sort of bureau either, so that kind of complicates things. Warrior Women store just shipped my new storage case, a padded mini-briefcase deal that I will be able to store and access fairly easily, I hope. was worth the 18 bucks to find out. This is the Kershaw one, but same idea:

That will probably be all you'll need. Nice idea.

Except for the rate I've been going with folders and all the ones I had before, I might need a second one down the road. I'm thinking about making an open top box with some sort of foam, slotted so the knives are stored spine up for the ones in regular EDC rotation; they wouldn't take up so much space that way and I wouldn't have to open or unzip anything to get at them. Gonna hafta wait til after the holidays, tho.

Need your help fellas... As you might as well know I'm starting my first 'real' job on Jan 2nd. It'll be an office job. I've been having some sort of pencil case throughout my academic trajectory but I got tired of that. I'm looking for something not too bulky that can fit a few pens and maybe a pencil. A small pencil sharpener and a small eraser. Maybe a small ruler and it should be able to house a small folding knife like a SAK cadet or something similar in size too. I've seen many "pocket organizers" by maxpedition, but I know there are other brands too. Since I know nothing about types or brands of this kind of stuff, every suggestion is extremely welcome.

In other words: I'd like some small organizer that looks minimalistic. Nothing too bulky, but it should be able to carry the few necessary items. Thanks for the input ;-)

This is the one I was thinking of. On sale for $80. Looks perfect for lights, knives, keys, and other manly stuff. Sorry for the ginormous pic :o

I have a flea-market-find version of that, but I use it for knife materials and blades in progress. Of course there are two tubes of steel and a tote of wood scraps too.

How the hell have ya'll been????

Sorry I've been away for so long, haven't had time for anything but work and family for awhile. I'm sure there are some new faces and some old ones may be gone, but I have been missing this place since I have been away. I hope all have been well with your bellies full, knives sharp and liquor cabinets stocked.

Been awhile since I've been outdoors so no new Beckers lately but I have recently acquired a Small Sebenza...

Great to see you around Rogue!

Nice Sebenza, Rogue!

Picked up this Zancudo to see what it's all about. It kind of makes me think of a Dozier folder, framelock style. We'll see...won't replace the Buck or Leek in my daily lineup.

So I'm laying here, recuperating from a morning on my feet spent working on some Christmas presents for my girls. Neurosurgeon called yesterday and asked would I like to come to the hospital Friday and have my back surgery done, they had a cancellation. I said "hell, yeah", but it puts a different spin on the arc towards Christmas, so I had to get this done today or maybe not get it done at all; originally thought I would have all of next week as the surgery had been scheduled for the 20th. Anyway, here's what I got done so far:

Did the Kydex yesterday, cleaned it up on the belt sander today. The ferro rods are ¼" firesteel.com units epoxied into some purpleheart blocks. Hopefully I'll get to shape them later today, maybe put a finish on them after the holidays are over. Also, since I was mixing epoxy, I drilled a much deeper hole into my Coghlan's ferro handle; the rod is OK but the damn thing came out of the handle first time I used it! It's only set into the handle about a ¼" so I drilled in another ½" or so so the epoxy would (hopefully) hold it. For $5 for a 5/16"x4" ferro rod, It's still a pretty OK deal.

Look at Condor or Fox Tactical; less expensive but still reasonably well made in my experience. There's a Condor water bottle carrier for about $20 that fits a standard 1 litre Nalgene and has a front pocket that would hold your accessories I believe (I can go and measure mine in a moment) and I think it has d-rings for attaching a shoulder strap. I'll go check to make sure.

OK. The front pocket is ~18cm x 10cm, and is a plain pocket on the inside. It does have D-rings for a shoulder strap, and is MOLLE compatible and has MOLLE webbing covering the outside, so you could attach whatever small extras you want....like a BK-16 ;). It's nice in black for $20.

This came in the mail along with a set of ESEE/Becker kitchen knives I bought for a gift...I figured I would make the postage worthwhile.

The handle is a little small, but still comfy and very grippy without being soft, the blade is 3.75", hollow ground 8CR13 SS and came very sharp. Good thumb jimping, too. Price? ~$20; for $25 I got the kit with a Lone Wolf field adjustment tool, which has all the small torx and hex drivers and a little flip out carbide/ceramic pull thru sharpener. The tool also seems pretty well made. The only downside is the sheath kinda blows. But hey, I'm all set up for Kydex, so it's no problem! It seems like it would be a great all purpose fieldcraft knife that could handle a little neglect; also maybe for someone with smaller hands. It came from Knifeworks, right on the homepage, although It went up a couple of $'s since I ordered it. I still think it's a good deal though.

Thanks, WW. I figured for the price, Lone Wolf (Benchmade) I'd take a chance and at the very least have something to loan out or keep in my work truck. Gonna try and make a MOLLE Kydex sheath for it, won't be for a couple of weeks yet. Working on my bending skillz before I throw down and try to knock one out for my 12. When my new 9 sheath gets here I'm going to try and do a little reverse engineering and see what I can learn...

I do not have the numbers to justify a cabinet.....yet. So, like others, the top shelf of the gun cabinet gets all the knife love.

My gun cabinets are full of guns. :D

I have the maxpedition mini PO. It's just long enough for regular pens and pencils but the problem I had with it is the elastic was sewn in with way too much slack to the point that it creates unnecessary bulk. I ended up cutting out one side of it so that the whole package would be nice and thin. Though it's still a little big for me to carry it in my jeans pocket.

Heck yea man, I look forward to seeing the sheath you make up for it.

I found the knife for 17.95, but not with the adjustment tool. heck the adjustment tool alone i see for sale for 30

If you wouldnt mind sending me the link id appreciate it.

The knife looks nice, and like you said for the price it is something that you would feel ok loaning out. And its something id feel ok abusing. And that handle looks pretty comfortable to me.

Im also interested in the tool, How is it?? i need a hex/torx driver set for the camp gear, and having a built in sharpener is awesome. I mean i most likely would only use that sharpener on cheaper knives, or in a emergency, but still.

Estate/junk/rummage sales, thrift stores etc are always worth a look, too.

This looks pretty cool, id love to know the spec/dimensions on it.

Edit- never mind, i found it thanks.

I swore all these were single words. guess i been wrong all my life.

I cheated, you got tired of watching Oj Simpsons police chase.

Wow, what a week for the reference.

I spotted a loose glove lying on the ground outside of a shopping center last night and quickly pointed out that the juice was on the loose

Somehow, no one knew what I was talking about...

About to experiment with poping microwave popcorn in the oven

Years ago while out camping in the woods with some buddies of mine we experimented with some popcorn. One of the guys brought a couple bags of microwaveable popcorn like an idiot, so after a bunch of beer we decided we would cut a beer can at the top and pour the kernels in the can and stick it over the fire.... It was a disaster :D it might have worked better if we had some oil or butter or something though.
