Don't Regret the Snark

Yeah, how stupid an idea is that? it's basically a Focus with a micro/euro van body. There's been a big redesign for the 2014 model, but it'll still be a rolling crapfest, if you ask me. My company is going to stick with 'em though, as they had a LOT of input on the new design. Unfortunately, the fleet managers and bean counters don't have to drive them and install out of them, so they really haven't a clue. Oh....IMO. I forgot - I'm a peon and know next to nothing about fleet management.

I really miss the old Chevy Astro van/GMC Safari. Those were pretty solid small vans. But I suppose they were overkill for the average minivan customer. Those new Nissan vans look promising. I like that they have the entire engine compartment out in front instead of a tiny hood and the dang doghouse taking up all the legroom. You'd think someone would have figured that out in the last 40 years.

I'm looking for some wool blankets to put in the winter kits in our vehicles. I read that the italian surplus blankets are really good, but holy cow are they spendy. I want something that will actually be warm in case we ever need to use them, but I'm not sure I want to pay $70 for something that might never be used.

Wool blankets are expensive, it is what it is, the U.S. surplus stuff is crap, that's why it's cheaper

First Production Run. There were some 16's that were saber ground, stamped, and old coating that were available at a knife shop. They were also laser etched with Ethan's signature.

I remember the sets. Man how i wish i bought one of those sets now!! At least then id have a saber 16.

I just really like the looks of a saber ground drop point. I cant deny that FFG cuts better but i have never had any problems getting a saber to do what i wanted it to do.

Do they have to be Italian?... A store that guides sportsmen has them from many countries, including the US for much less than that. Its a good place to purchase outdoorsy things.
Wool is a great choice because it durable and keeps you warm even when wet. It is rather heavy though.

I'll probably just end up forking over the cash for a few. I guess they could be used for camping and whatnot too.

I was actually just looking there. They do have quite a few, but some are pretty lightweight and some are a bit smaller that I would like. I still might consider a few that are there. I did find some Polish ones somewhere else for $26 and from what I can find they are supposed to be of fair quality.

This^^

A while back a local place was asking for donated blankets for homeless vets and i ordered 4 of them army types from that place for under 50 bucks to donate. I never opened them up to check the quality or anything but im sure they are pretty decent.

Buy a few, they layer really well. I have an old US army surplus one that is ~45 years old. It is in great shape and pretty heavy. They did get a little lighter in later years. I have used them quite a bit, and still like them. You could always mix them with poncho liners and you would have wool bulk and a more modern thermal barrier. I primarily go camping with just the 'cho liners here in Florida. Light and good to about 40°. For something in your truck, wool and 'cho liners would be good.

We used to have a GMC Safari all wheel drive it was a good van and would go anywhere. The 4.3 is pretty bullet proof but not so great on gas.

First truck I had was a Ford Ranger with a cap and outside access doors. Roof was low enough to get the ladders off, comfy to drive and good gas mileage. Loved that thing. Then came the Astros, and those were just OK...didn't make me love GMC that much. Then came the GMC Express, which was roomy for ladders and tools and equipment, but seriously underpowered for the hills of NH and a bear to drive: gas pedal seemed to be just a suggestion to the throttle...steering play was scary; especially in the wind. Though not GMC's fault, my company wasn't ever smart enough to put swing-down ladder racks on any of the trucks after the Ranger. The only way to get ladders off the roof is to get the 4-footer out and climb up to undo the straps. They've lost a lost of mirrors as guys have tried to get their ladders off and slipped, dropping them and shearing off the side mirrors. Major problem an the Transits; there isn't a rearview mirror (no windows in the back door) and they chose not to equip them with the back-up camera. That's what happens when fleet managers and bean counters make decisions. Difficult to drive a truck with only side mirrors, that's for sure. Backing up is an exercise in faith.

I am getting slow response as well. A lot of retailers are sending notices that due to the weather, shipping times are delayed. There has been a lot of nasty weather lately.
