Hey guys

I know this prob belongs in a different forum but whether it's knives or guns, we tend to be of similar tastes. So I want to ask my Hog brothers what they think. I hope I'm not breaking any rules and when I get home (on iPhone now) I will post some Busse pics/ content as required

What is the best gun for under 500$??

Your help is always appreciated

Um.. this is a bit vague... best gun for what... rifle, shotgun, revolver, handgun?

for defense, for hunting, for concealed carry?

tell me what you want to do with it, and i'll give you some good options. I'm a collector of things that go boom

Pistol? Rifle? Caliber? Use?

Pistol..I like Sigs. Rifle..I like custom AR's.

as a general combat pistol, i personally think the Glock 22 is the best weapon you can get.

you can get a gen3 for around 450

I'm gonna assume this is about carryin' guns so... The only gun I carry that was under $500 is a Ruger LCP, and that's with shorts or PJ's. However, you can find blue label Glocks for well under that, but that involves a LEO associate and time... As for my preferred carry, theyre well over the 500 threshold with a kahr PM9, and a Colt New Agent with VZ slims. Pics or it didn't happen so... Obligatory crappy cellphone pics in 3..2..

Glock model 22. It's a .40 high capacity pistol.

Are you looking to conceal carry, or are you looking for a general defensive weapon? The glock 22 is a full size weapon so it's not great to conceal, but it holds a LOT of ammo, and is as dependable as a gun can get.

I've fired 2000 rounds through my gen 4 and it has had exactly zero failures.

Some more info could be helpful. Do you plan to conceal carry, range gun, home defense, is this your first pistol, will you be shooting it often, etc ???????

I'm with Glock too. Got a used 21 for well under 500. I've shot several thousand rounds of a variety of ammunition without a single malfunction.

If you have never used anything in semi auto which is "cocked and locked" ( 1911, Browning Hipower etc ) and want to stick with a type of pistol which is utterly reliable and easy to operate ( i.e. pull it and squeeze the trigger ) then you cannot beat a Glock in that price range ... calibre and model size is down to you and what you want it for ... calibre also can dictate an affordable shooting budget ... important if it is your first and only pistol ...

Things to note with Glocks ... the sights are usually something to consider replacing ... the trigger can be altered to improve the trigger pull ... if factory ammo is your intended choice the barrel is fine ... if you want to shoot lead reloads the polygonal rifling in the barrel is best swapped out for a Lone Wolf traditional rifling barrel.

If you learn a little about what you want in a Glock you could do a lot worse than buying the parts you want from Lone Wolf and assemble your own pistol from the start ... get's you sorted for the same money as a factory Glock with a nice blend of improved parts ...

With all this Glock talk I just threw up a little in my mouth

For $500 or under, maybe a M&P if you can find one on sale. Sig 250, CZ 75 of some sort, Magnum Research Baby Eagle, Armalite AR-24 (CZ copy), just to name a few.

But, for the love of all things holy.......don't get 5 Hi Points. Not everything out of Ohio is quality.

I gotta go glock as well cause i trust my life to a G21sf everyday(G30 as my backup). I also LOVE CZ-75s if you could find one on the budget, and it is very possible. Also i agree bout the highpoints, even the gangsters dont like them anymore.

It appears that glock is the official handgun of busse... i wonder if i can get a kydex holster for my glock that piggybacks a busse

that would be AWESOME for hog hunting

S&W M&P series pistols are great guns right around $500. I went with an Apex trigger kit, because like the glock the factory trigger is ok. Great ergos. The elite version comes with trigger job. My M&Ps just shoot/feel better to me than my glocks.
Then there is the Ruger SR9 & SR40 also good guns after a little trigger work.

I own all of the above in either 40sw or 9mm and would recommend them to friends and family. however the gun I have given to family members is the Ruger GP100 4" and exchange the trigger and main springs with wolf springs. 38 and 357 ammo can be used and it is very durable.

When you look at metal framed pistols ... of comparable reliability to a Glock ... it is hard to see many contenders which come in at $500 ... CZ 75's are excellent pistols ... the Isreali Baby Eagle is good too ... both are 9mm ... which is'nt a bad calibre for "budgeting" enough shooting to learn what you are doing ...

The thing is ... some people have a lot of money available for a pistol and still chose a Glock ... personally I like a "cocked and locked" pistol with a safety and a great trigger pull and great sights ... but mine are way over that budget ... and even then I still like a Glock ... light weight and with the high round capacity that weight saving is very welcome because the mags weigh enough once fully loaded ... change the sights and swap out a standard trigger follower for a target trigger follower with a lighter pull and they are pretty good ...
