Don't trust anyone but the hogs

I would rather eat a dog turd than carry a glock..a glock would be my last choice of any of the guns I own. and the glock I have was a gift so I have to keep it.
Always goes bank, yes, always points up , yes, does not point like any other gun I own or have shot

.

Well at least you agree it always goes bang ...:D

The reason it points up is the angle of the grip ... more Luger than 1911 ... and if your other auto's are all similar to a 1911 angle then fair enough your natural pointing grip will be developed that way ... but it is'nt too hard to correct that with a bit of practise ... or it should'nt be ??

Glock... every time... no question

1911's are only dependable with work... and i don't trust any of the other semi-autos

revolvers are pretty bullet proof if the striker is in good shape, but i haven't ever found a 9mm glock that won't shoot...

 That would be my choice too ... because they are very reliable ...

I'm a XD guy myself at the $500 price point although I do have a G20 and like it. If XD had a 10mm though I'd sell it in a heartbeat and pick up Springfield's version.

Something to ponder ... "imagine" :D....

If you travel around the world to some places where having a pistol for personal protection makes sense ... but importing your favourite custom pistol is a none starter ... and you need to buy locally and choice is going to be limited ... what would you have faith in were you to look in the proverbial "car trunk" and have to make a selection from what is there ? Without the ability to field strip them ... or "try before you buy" ... and certainly without the ability to ask for "spare mags" or "speed loaders" ... a box of ammo and a pistol is all you get ...

There in the trunk is an old 1911 with one mag and a box of 230g FMJ 's ... and a Glock 19 with a box of Nato 9x19 FMJ's ... a few assorted revolvers and a few other semi auto's such as Makarov's or Tokarev's ... maybe throw in a Browning HP or a Berreta 92 ... all of these being old as sin and all having a long hard life ...

Which one would you pick ??? and why ???

Throw in a few prices ...

The guy wants cash in US$ and the prices are ...

$500 each for the .45, Glock, HP, and M92 inc ammo ...

$250 each for the Tokarev, Makarov and any of the revolvers inc ammo ... let's say the revolvers are a mix of .38 sp and .44 Russian and .455 Webley ... again old and well used ...

You only have $500 in cash ...

Being realistic you can drop the mag out and check the lips for dings ... and you can rack the slide and pull the trigger ... and with the revolvers you can dry fire them and swing out the cylinder ... all seem to be OK but all are a bit loose ... as in the .45 rattles when you shake it and so do the HP and M92 ... I have'nt had a Glock that rattles but let's say it feels loose and certainly has plenty of dings and marks on it ... as do all of them ...

This may sound daft but it equates a lot to the OP's point of what would you go for on a budget and what "type" of pistol do you have the most faith in if having to choose for real ... and the above situation can be very real if you step outside of the US into places where you still need a pistol to protect yourself ...

OK, I'll play! :D

Semi-auto pistols can be finicky. Given that you must buy without a test-drive, I'd choose the most reliable firearm of the group which would be the G19, or any of the revolver's. The g19 would likely get the nod based on it's 15 round mag capacity over the revolver's 6 or less rounds.

Also, 9mm ammo would likely be easier to locate in more places than .45 or any of the revolver cartridges listed.

That's 'cause they're the only ones professional enough, that I know of, to carry a Glock 40.

LOL! I love that video...

Makes you shake your head in disbelief ... then LOL ... but the guy got off lightly ...

I found another video where mistakes cost a life ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=Z7AMMF7WaB8&NR=1

The drill shown in the video is unbelievably stupid ... but at least with a Glock there is no need to point the gun into your chest to remove the safety ... not suprised that the department moved to Glocks and were using the Glock training pistol ...

Glocks are not for everyone. Personally I think they suck. Mine was not reliable enough, pointed terribly, and felt like a brick in the hand. Best to try out a variety of pistols before putting down the money.
