Don't trust anyone but the hogs

You might want to look at a Springfiled XD too. They're available new at or near your price point, and I find that they have a more comfortable to shoot than a Glock.

How did I forget about XD??? The original XD's (hs2000) were selling at the last gun show for around $400 new in box. It's a great deal. The newer xdm's are going for around $550 in these parts. I have the xdm45 and it's a nice pistol, but it is not $150 better than the XD....

.

I had several handguns, and I must say that Glocks are hard to beat. But you need to try one, and see if it fits for you.

Ham67, here ya go

:D

Feels better than a Glock, and looks a lot better too :p

Maybe because the OP specified best gun <$500. The P2022 is the only Sig that meets the criteria (P250s are junk). Probably a little less well-known than Glock.

I heard when the 250s first came out they had issues, but the newer ones were okay. Could be wrong though.

100% correct!! If it can be fubared and you make enough of them eventually some will be fubared. When it comes to double loads and such anything on the market can and will explode on you. If we are talking about betting your life on a gun more people in every corner of the world bet their life on Glock's that all of the others combined, period. Not that I don't have and love several other pistols and revolvers, I would not hesitate to bet my life on a G26, G36, or a G21 any day of the week. I prefer the 26 and 21. They can stand up to far more punishment than most anything out there. Try several different firearms until you find what works for you.

Millions of Glocks and only a small percentage of issues, even smaller percentage of catastrophic issues, I'm assuming, but pretty sure correct.

I, like many, own a few pistols. I enjoy them all, but choose to carry Glock 9mm. Either 19 or 26.

As said, hit the range and rent / borrow a few. The right gun for you will emerge. Think practicality and consider cost of ammo, etc.. A gun you cannot control or afford to feed is of little use. All stated is opinion, all are invited to politely disagree.

Before I bought a Glock, I asked many LEO's which pistol they preferred and all but two said Glock.
The other two were H&K.

I love my H&K, but it's so expensive for a polymer gun, I don't really wanna take it out of the house. My Glock 17 RTF is my bump in the night gun. It's lighted, lasered, and suppressed for them closed spaces bangs. They really ring. What other gun on the market can you replace the factory barrel with a match grade threaded for $120?! And what other gun on the market can you get every factory upgrade (extended this, reduced power that) for around $50?

Under 500 on a handgun I like the mid size Glocks,I own a Gen 3 Glock 23.

Okay, how about these:

Glock = Gerber
Glock = Chevy
Glock = Wal-Mart
Glock = Gold's Gym
Glock = Pepsi
Glock = Budweiser
Glock = Sanyo
Glock = Kanye West

Any of those better?

^^^^^^^^

Glock=AK47/74

Purely utilitarian. Functions all the time every time, cleaning optional. Will go 10K rounds with little or no wear and will likely outlive it's owner.

It's price for performance factor is off the charts. I'd say Glock=Scrapyard/Swamp Rat. It is unsurpassed at it's price, but neither are too pretty (LE's being the exception).

The one thing Busse and Glock have in common is that they both have a rabid anti-fan club based mostly on inexperience and ignorance.

Glock commands 65% of the market share of handguns for American law enforcement agencies and supplies numerous national armed forces, security agencies, and law enforcement agencies in 48 countries. But those who think Glocks suck will not allow such silly facts to obscure their judgement anymore than a Kabar owner can be convinced that his knife is not the equal of an Ed Fowler custom.

Glock's are great! Everyone should own one for each hand... Still, Glock won't replace my 1911's. Believe it or not, they all live in the same safe... happily ever after.

There are no "Gun Snobs" when you need one but have'nt got one ... :thumbup: Ditto knives ...

No point in saying to a mugger that you have a 1911 Custom on lay away ...

Glocks are probably more like SAK's ... affordable and uniquely good at sorting out the "basics" on a budget ... :thumbup:

Soo....Glock uses child labor, was bought out by Inbev, and is a loud abnoxious full of themself rapper? I HAVE WRITTEN PROOF NOW!!!

:D :D

Because Glock does massive law enforcement discounts and they get them cheap. Plus, Glocks aren't complicated, no real safeties to mess with. I'm not bashing cops but the reason they like Glocks is because it's simple point and shoot and not a lot of people can screw that up. Sometimes law enforcement doesn't mean they're gun people, so the more simple the better.

Glocks do last a while, plastic doesn't rust ;) :p, but their baking process on their slides (I'll admit), is tough shat.

Something to ponder ... "imagine" :D....

If you travel around the world to some places where having a pistol for personal protection makes sense ... but importing your favourite custom pistol is a none starter ... and you need to buy locally and choice is going to be limited ... what would you have faith in were you to look in the proverbial "car trunk" and have to make a selection from what is there ? Without the ability to field strip them ... or "try before you buy" ... and certainly without the ability to ask for "spare mags" or "speed loaders" ... a box of ammo and a pistol is all you get ...

There in the trunk is an old 1911 with one mag and a box of 230g FMJ 's ... and a Glock 19 with a box of Nato 9x19 FMJ's ... a few assorted revolvers and a few other semi auto's such as Makarov's or Tokarev's ... maybe throw in a Browning HP or a Berreta 92 ... all of these being old as sin and all having a long hard life ...

Which one would you pick ??? and why ???

Throw in a few prices ...

The guy wants cash in US$ and the prices are ...

$500 each for the .45, Glock, HP, and M92 inc ammo ...

$250 each for the Tokarev, Makarov and any of the revolvers inc ammo ... let's say the revolvers are a mix of .38 sp and .44 Russian and .455 Webley ... again old and well used ...

You only have $500 in cash ...

Being realistic you can drop the mag out and check the lips for dings ... and you can rack the slide and pull the trigger ... and with the revolvers you can dry fire them and swing out the cylinder ... all seem to be OK but all are a bit loose ... as in the .45 rattles when you shake it and so do the HP and M92 ... I have'nt had a Glock that rattles but let's say it feels loose and certainly has plenty of dings and marks on it ... as do all of them ...

This may sound daft but it equates a lot to the OP's point of what would you go for on a budget and what "type" of pistol do you have the most faith in if having to choose for real ... and the above situation can be very real if you step outside of the US into places where you still need a pistol to protect yourself ...

Glock... every time... no question

1911's are only dependable with work... and i don't trust any of the other semi-autos

revolvers are pretty bullet proof if the striker is in good shape, but i haven't ever found a 9mm glock that won't shoot...

I would rather eat a dog turd than carry a glock..a glock would be my last choice of any of the guns I own. and the glock I have was a gift so I have to keep it.
Always goes bank, yes, always points up , yes, does not point like any other gun I own or have shot

.
It appears that glock is the official handgun of busse... i wonder if i can get a kydex holster for my glock that piggybacks a busse

that would be AWESOME for hog hunting
