Doug Ritter Mini-RSK® MK1-G2 Available!

Am I the only one that got one that isn't centered?

Well, it is pretty much a Benchmade design...

;)

Transformation complete.

Nice. I'm going to change out the silver scale screws for black ones on mine. Already used a couple of Benchmade blackened clip screws to make for an easier pocket draw. The Hogue torx on the clip are button heads and stick up enough to cause occasional hangups when drawing from my pocket.

Looks like the initial run of black is sold out now as it is showing as a pre-order. I was able to get the orange one I wanted, though.

Mr. Ritter has noted more black handle ones are coming soon. For those who are interested. :)
I don't figure it will take long. We saw the same thing happen with the full size when they came out as well.

I hope they have a decent inventory system and didn’t oversell. I ordered mine Friday morning and still haven’t received a shipping notification. It just says that the order is “in progress”.

I received mine earlier today. It's a lot smaller than I expected, yet I can still get a full four-finger grip with my large-glove sized hands. I think it's actually more comfortable in my hand than the only other 3-incher I own, the TRM Neutron. Surprising me considering how rough the g-10 kind of looks.

Fit and Finish is pretty good on my unit. Blade came almost perfectly centered. Absolutely no blade play whether side-to-side or up-and-down.

The action I think is good but not perfect. No where near drop shut, and I can't even shake the thing closed now that I think about it. It flicks open easily only using my thumb but it sometimes doesn't fully deploy if I only lightly flick it like I do with every other folder I own. Biggest annoyance is that when I flick it closed the blade will, majority of the time, bounce off the standoffs, however for whatever reason it quickly sucks itself back into the handle so it technically fully disengages every time. I guess it must be because of the spring? This is my first axis lock type knife so it might be user error on my part or me not fully understanding the mechanism yet. Please feel free to educate me.

I ordered mine Sunday afternoon and I must have snagged one of the last black g-10s. Overall, I'm happy with it as of right now.

Both the orange handle and black handle mini are available on KW site. Maybe the batch came in while you guys were discussing here? :D

One of the above pics shows this mini hogue ritter has the same length as Benchmade mini griptilian. I have a mini grip and know how small it is (overall shorter than Spyderco Delica). But this should be a very comfortable smaller EDC folder.

SIG96 SIG96 - it sounds your mini is a bit tight. Should break in over time, or you can loose the pivot slightly. Axis/ABLE lock requires careful tweaking to achieve free blade dropping while eliminating noticeable side-to-side blade play. As for the blade bounces off the stop pin, you are probably swing the blade close a bit too hard. Play a bit more you shall learn how much force is needed to close the blade. Once the action is smooth enough, you will need only a tiny bit force to swing close the blade. Or release the lockbar when the blade is about to fully close but not yet.

I'd give them a call. I didn't order until Sunday...mine was shipped Monday, and delivered today

I sent them a message last night and it was shipped today, not sure what the hold-up was but it's no biggie. :)

Mine came in today (thanks to all of the enablers here). Same quality as has been mentioned by others: Centered perfect, smooth action, razor sharp, and no blade play. I'm happy I got this one (and that Doug decided to make the mini).

My biggest complaint with the Griptillian has always been that the regular was bigger than I like to carry, and the Mini was just a bit too small in the handle. Looking at these pics it looks like the Hogue Mini is just a bit longer than a BM Mini?

6.876" vs 6.78" overall length from what I read. If mini grip is too small for you, I'm afraid you'll feel the same way about this mini hogue ritter. I am hesitating to pull the trigger for the same reason.

Mine came in today, so I just thought I'd give a quick first impressions. First of all... Great knife! I really like it! It's really hard not to compare it to my Benchmade 555-1 so a lot of my likes/dislikes will be as compared to the 555-1.

Right off the bat, the blade stock on the Ritter seemed slightly thinner than the 555-1 which I then confirmed with calipers. The Hogue is coming in at around .0925" while the Benchmade is measuring .1". The thinner stock, plus the taller blade with more of a full-flat grind definitely makes it a bit slicier than the 555-1. The edge from Hogue is also amazing! Easily the best edge I've received from a factory... Better than any Spyderco I've purchased (which is honestly saying a lot in my opinion) and is even better than the Olamic Busker I recently picked up. This thing is SHARP! I like the pattern of the G10, but I think it is too aggressive (especially near the clip). I can tell this knife is going to eat some of my jean pockets. I prefer the more subtle, smooth Benchmade G10 (as well as the color on the Benchmade). Great action. It's not drop shut like my Benchmade is (although maybe it will be after I tinker with it), but it somehow feels much smoother, almost glass like. It's a surprise to me because I love a drop-shutty knife, but I think I prefer the action on the Hogue. It just feels higher quality somehow. I don't like the clip that much. On the Benchmade, the clip starts out with a kind of ramp that helps prevent a hotspot. The clip on the Hogue doesn't have this little bit of a ramp and causes a little bit of a hot spot for me. The clip on the Hogue is also MUCH less stiff than the Benchmade and I worry about it's durability. I love the thumbstud on the Hogue. I'm usually more of a flipper tab or Spydie hole type of guy, but I can get on board with a well placed, well done thumb stud (which for some reason must be harder to do than it sounds). Hogue knocked that out of the park. Very well placed and easy to use. The blade flies out extremely quickly and smoothly with a flick of the thumb. Centering is perfect. The Hogue feels slightly larger in the hand than the 555-1, which is a positive in my opinion. I've always felt that if the handle on the Mini-Grip was about 1/4" longer it would be perfect. I also prefer the texture of the lock stud on the Hogue. One thing I wish both Hogue and Benchmade would switch to, is recessed screws for the pocket clip. Both knives like to occasionally grab my pocket when removing them. All in all the Hogue is a fantastic knife (especially for the price) and I don't see a whole lot of reason to pay extra for a 556-1.

*edit
After opening and closing the Hogue about 20 times, it already drops shut half the time. :)

Lol... First day carrying it at work and my fellow knife nerd coworker drops it on the concrete, warehouse floor.

At least the tip didn’t break I guess! I needed to bust out the Edge Pro anyways. :p
