I think I may have a problem, 'cuz the "five knives" limit actually brought a knot to my stomach.
I mean, really, where to start?
Let's begin with the heirloom. My dad gave me an
Imperial Officers Ulster 916 for my 12th birthday in 1961. I still have it. Practical or not, it's coming with me.
I guess my full-sized folder of choice has to be one of the EKA Swedes, either the 82 (in Bubinga wood) or the 92 (in rubber/plastic). I use the Swede 92 all the time, and it's really in my top three most reliable and useful folders. I'd probably go with the 82, though, 'cuz the wood is just that little bit nicer.
Here's my
Normark branded Swede 92:
Somewhere I have a picture of the Swede 82. Maybe I can dig it up.
So, three more. Well, let's see . . .
(It's tempting to bring the Gerber Silver Knight that I carried for twenty years, but frankly I think I can do better.)
Let's take the Lone Wolf
Paul Presto. It's a stylish gent's knife, very useful, good quality, sharp, and a "happy user" knife.
Two more.
Have to choose between the Kershaw Leek and the Buck Vantage. Love them both. However, I think the Vantage gets the nod here. I carry it and use it all the time. It stays. The Buck Paradigm also fits here, and I like it a lot, but the Vantage is the same size and profile, same steel, weighs less, has fewer moving parts, and can be opened quietly one-handed or two-handed. As much as I like my Paradigm, I will still go with the Vantage.
One more. (You know, this is really a form of mental cruelty.)
I have an array of Case Sod Busters, both in CV and stainless, both large and small. I'm
really fond of them. I also have a Case
John Deere Medium Stockman in green bone, which I use all the time. And then there's the Case Pocket Hunter, a sweet little thing, delightful to use. Gawd. What to do.
I already have a SAK (Imperial), a full-sized knife (EKA Swede), a medium folder (Vantage), a gent's knife (Paul Presto), and now I need a small-medium general purpose folder to round things out.
Oh, and wait, I have an old Buck 301 Stockman (flat ground) and a Buck 313 Muskrat (also flat ground) from their El Cajon days. Dammit.
Curse you, Red Baron.
Okay. Final knife.
I'm gonna take the Buck 313 Muskrat.
Yuck. I feel so . . . empty.
Abandoning all those other sweet, precious knifes. My preciousssssssss.
This exercise wasn't as much fun as I thought it would be.
Bleh.
