Dozier Bushcrafter

Nice knife. Just why did he choose such a crap steel. D2 chips and fractures horribly on a thin edge.

D2 ya can't pay me to take it.

Very nice knife bro. Are you gonna leave the tiny 2ndary bevel or sharpen it out?

I never owned a D2 Scandi, so please let us know how she holds up with some use.

That's a Very Nice piece.
Ditch that POS scabbard and get something that will retain that knife so it doesn't disappear in the woods :grumpy:

Here is some advice Toucan.

You have NO idea what you're talking about. Bob Dozier wrote the book on D2.
His edges are generally thin hollow grinds and they do not chip or fracture.

See tonym's advice to Toucan Oasis.

I forgot to mention that the corners of the spine are left sharp.
Firesteel or scraping should work well.

Ebbtide,

Now you have pissed me off! I love Dozier knives and bought a few before they went way up in price. I said I was satisfied in what I had at lower prices and now you show us this.

Geoff
Think of it this way, get the knife now and in 10 years the price will look cheap ;)

very cool. I love Dozier blades, only have one, the ks-7 and that thing is sweet.

Great score.

For the guy who said to ditch the sheath, Dozier kydex is very, very good and secure. The drop leg is super comfy and allows you to sit down without having your handle poke into your ribs. the single handed withdrawing and inserting is ++.
His horizontal belt sheaths and 'wilderness' sheaths are inspired.
Brilliant design. Dozier is one of the original kydex innovators.

Either you're kidding or haven't used a Dozier knife.
Please note Tony's suggestion below.

I'm going to keep that micro bevel.
Just like my IJ Aito, it works fine.
You really have to get the light just right to see the micro bevel on either of them.
I'm not even sure micro bevel is the right term.
It's smaller than that...
This is going to be an all around knife (as opposed to a dedicated carver) so I don't foresee any problems.

I have had two Dozier knives, the Delta traveler, and the Wilderness. The Traveler was a great knife, but left my hands in a trade. The Wilderness has been a great knife, and I have not had any problems with it. Light chopping, cutting, shaving bark etc no problems. I plan on ordering more Doziers. Like Esav said, Bob is known for his mastery of D2. I have a Queen stockman in D2, and a Butch Harner drop point hunter with D2. Absolutely no problems whatsoever. I've had countless other custom and production knives in D2, and it is a great steel. It's not my favorite, but don't count it out.

BTW, I don't like kydex on anything other than neck knives, but Bobs sheath, when I actually got out and used it, is pretty good.

I've batoned a 4" clip point, hollow ground Dozier without a problem.

It is true that not all D2 from every maker performs the same. I have a couple of D2 blades with inferior heat treats that are as brittle as egg shells (an old story). However, Doctor D2 Dozier seems to get it right every time in my experience. We have been days and weeks in the harsh remote northern bush with Dozier knives and never had so much as a hint of a problem with Bob's D2. Dozier knives do what Dozier knives were intended to do and they do it well. :)

 I have always strayed from a hollow grind fearing it wasn't a tuff grind and I am known to be ruff on knives. Then Big Mike introduced me to a few Doziers. His D2 and hollow grind is as good as it gets:thumbup:

Ebbtide, awesome knife you've got there, good score.
I get so tried of hearing, "D2 chips and fractures" Total BS. It is an outstanding steel.

Scott,

Do you also get tired of hearing about how difficult it is to sharpen? [I've never had a problem.....]

I personally believe it has too much choil and too much guard... but if YOU like it and you think it is a great knife - then it is! There is so much personal 'feel' to knives.

TF

Toucan Oasis, you are missing out on the amazing quality Dozier sheaths. He is almost as well known for his sheaths as he is his knives... Well, almost.
That is one nice looking knife. My wife is going to kill me!

I have heard that Dozier works magic on D2 !

Anyone questioning D2 should also do some googling on the D2 knife that Swamprat made and tested to destruction, man with the right heat treat D2 is awesome !!!!

Danny, the only way this knife comes out there is with me attached to it :P :D :D

Talfuchre, the guard doesn't feel as big as it looks.
The guard is also what locks into the sheath. All parts of a whole.

I agree that there is so much to the feel of a knife.
That's why I like to go to the shows and pick them all up. :)

Ever watch a seasoned knifemaker inspect a knife?
The fingers do as much looking as the eyes do.
