Dozier Bushcrafter

Toucan Oasis- I have many Dozier, have never had any issues with a knife wanting to come out of the kydex sheaths. If you hold the sheath and the knife and shake it, the knife does not even make a ticking noise. The Kydex will out last most knives. Leather is not a very good material for storing a knife in either-FYI since you dont seem to know a great deal about sheaths....
Also, I know most of you have already commented about D2 and the advantages of it, but, I want my .02 in here... I have been batoning with my Dozier for years and have never chipped my blade. I might add, that my knives see a ton of use too. I have used my skinning knives to break the brisket open and quarter deeer and elk numerous times and have never chipped my blade.
For those of you that have had pour experiences with D2 in the past, it was not a well made knife. Doziers heat treat is the best, and they will withstand the test of time, hard time.

Nice knife. Just why did he choose such a crap steel. D2 chips and fractures horribly on a thin edge.

D2 ya can't pay me to take it.

Isn't he called Dr. D2? AND Oregon Knife Guy, How do you decide which beauty to carry? Do you need to sell one to me?

That pic os over a year old, I have another 4 to add to the picture.
It sometimes takes 2 hours to get ready in the morning, I sit there for an hour and a half looking at my knives and trying to figure out which one to carry.
I do have to admit, I have too many because I can only get one elk and one deer a year, so some see no use for a long period of time... Though I have my favorites that see lots of blood. My wife just got me the KS-5 Elk hunter for our wedding, I didn't get an elk this year ( not due to a lack of try) so it has seen no blood. The first thing it cut was our wedding cake.

Congrats on your wedding and the nice Doziers! I'd really like a stag handle. I have a Yukon Skinner with ironwood scales but the others are synthetic.

That is a fantastic collection of Doziers you have there. It's a shame the D2 stigma (chipping, hard to sharpen, etc) occasionally gets carried over to Bob Doziers work. His knives are among the best, and I also have not any of the problems described with the Dozier D2.

I've been nothing but impressed with the F&F of Dozier's work, knives and sheaths. The only problem I've had with his D2 is that it doesn't go dull in the edge-area.

Here's another raving fan of Bob Dozier's work. I purchased one of his Yukon Pro Skinner's more than 12 years ago from AG Russell (another one of the great ones!). Talk about an incredible knife. The positive qualities are too numerous to name them all, but a short list includes:

  • Sharper than any other knife I have ever used or owned (and I've used too many to count!)
  • It stays sharper longer than any other knife I have ever experienced
    • I've processed 4-5 huge whitetailed deer without touching up the edge more than once
  • It is exceptionally well made
  • The kydex sheath is among the very best
Bob makes one of the best knives anywhere, and his work is -- IMO -- one of the very best values in the entire knife world. He's a gentleman and a pleasure to deal with. I cannot speak highly enough of Bob and his work. Nuff said!

Obviously the negative comments on Bob's D2 and Sheath systems are coming from possibly some well meaning folks who have never had experience with his sheaths or his knives.
I have had one for well over a decade with three different sheaths. Knife has been through more than I can remember. It "locks" in each of the three sheaths, the edge has never given me a problem with chipping, holding and sharpening trouble. Best working/hunting knife I own by far (and that is saying quite a lot.)

It's funny, because my first kydex sheath was on a Dozier, so I thought ALL kydex was that good. Sorry to say, other than the Dozier (and Mashed Cat) sheaths, I now try to replace any kydex as quickly as I can.

Forum member Normark from On-Scene Tactical makes a good kydex sheath as well.
I have 3 :)

Who was it that sharpness tested some knives here and the Dozier came out on top?

The Dozier crew will be back in the big apple at the end of February.
:D
Come to NYC, take the wife to a Broadway show, see the Statue Of Liberty and buy a Dozier knife or three :)

As to the corby rivets...
Well the corbies are "silver" in color.
Definitely not brass, as to the actual metal, I don't know, off hand.
