Dozier Bushcrafter

I bet it was an experience. What matters is that YOU can use it and stay alive with it. Who cares what it looks like to others!

Good score - you certainly have a great name behind the knife.

I have a Dozier folder - it was inexpensive - but I love it!

Nice knife....congrats.

Toucan Oasis, you are missing out on the amazing quality Dozier sheaths. He is almost as well known for his sheaths as he is his knives... Well, almost.

I guess I'll be another one to miss out on it. I hate kydex sheaths and won't pay a dime extra for one.

Very nice knife! I'm amazed at the people who venture strong opinions and don't have a clue as to what they are talking about, Dozier's D2 is some of the best, as is his Kydex. Don't like Kydex? Good! More for me! I have several of Bob's knives, no chipping, and the edge holding is far better than most. The best sheaths as well.

I'd be very interested in a long-term review!

That's a sweet baby! I have a few bushcraft type knives but have yet to try a Dozier. Looks like a winner though.

Nice Knife

W/ regard to the D2.

I think 01 is my favorite steel. Like the way it cuts and sharpens. The kind of edge it takes.

But I have owned or own 3 D2 knives and I like all of them.

A lot of times I'll be wanting to take one of the 01's and then reach for the D2 because I just don't want to have to worry about remembering to keep it dry and oiled.

Today I shot a 4 point and gutted him out with this D2 knife with a 3 1/8" D2 blade that Brian Andrews made me.

I was really bouncing the blade off the bones inside cutting the guys out. Off the ribs and the pelvis bone. Was trying to be careful since it IS a scandi and I just didn't like the idea of doing it.

Anyway no chipping at all:thumbup: Took the knife home, washed it off in the sink. Put it in the dish drainer to drain (yay D2 and Micarta) stroped it 3 or 4 times on each side and it was shaving again. Sweet.

All Steels have their purposes IMO.

Don't worry Black Hills.
Kydex doesn't cost (even) a penny extra.
:D
Just like anything else, there is *really good* stuff and then there is the rest.

I do my own leather sheaths and still haven't felt the need to make a sheath for a Dozier made knife.

Talfuchre, I have one of the K-Bar/Doziers as well. Good little lockback folder.

Nice knife. Just why did he choose such a crap steel. D2 chips and fractures horribly on a thin edge.

D2 ya can't pay me to take it.

At's pretty funny, hell you right up there with Eddy Murphy.

See I know you jokin cause aint nobody stupid enough to say that with a straight face.

Sweet one Ebb.

I have been using Bob's knives for a very long time. He understands D2 in such a way that his use of it does not produce the negative results as expessed by some of the posts here. D2 is an excellent knife steel and was an early borderline stainless that was very popular prior to the explosion of modern alloys. As for cost, his prices have gone up very little as the years go by. His work is very reasonably priced. If you dislike the shealth (which are well made and very secure) get one made, or make one yourself. If you have not tried one of his knives, I would suggest that you do. Also, keep in mind that Bob is close to 70 now. I wish he could stay around forever but he has definitely got more behind him than in front. If you call and talk to him be prepared to spend an hour or more, unless he has changed his ways. Now, if I can just get him to do some flat grinds.

DAAAAANNNGGGG. .... A dozier scandi!

Nice knife....congrats.

Pura Vida.
Kydex is noisy and insecure. It's more mall ninja crap.
The only one I ever had was from Hankins."Blinker". Great knife. Crap Kydex sheath.

CHU CHUNK rattle rattle CHA CHUNK. :jerkit:
The local shoemaker quickly fixed that problem:cool: $15. Safe and soundLESS .;)

Scott,

Do you also get tired of hearing about how difficult it is to sharpen? [I've never had a problem.....]

DancesWithKnives

Yes, that too. Investment in diamond hones is the only way to go with any steel. They literally last a lifetime.

So you base your opinion of all Kydex sheaths on one sample?
That's not wise.

Until you have put Dozier's kydex sheaths through the paces you will unfortuantaly never know just what you are missing out on.
The Dozier Wilderness sheath is pure and simple perfection.

Very nice pick up, Ebb!
Let us know how it performs for you.

I have not seen a thread on here in a long time with people making more statements about which they know nothing!!! Dozier sheaths make NO NOISE, zip, nada (I only have a dozen, so you may have more experience than I). They don't slip around, they don't let the knife drop out, they are by no means insecure. As to the knives, they don't chip, crack, or split 'easily'. They take a wicked edge and hold it well. They are not the easiest knife to sharpen, but they are not the most difficult either. The handles are very well designed and ergonomic.

Yes, I am a Dozier fan, and to be completely and totally honest, I don't really care if someone doesn't want to buy one, as it leaves more for us that do. BUT, I really wanted to correct some of the gross misconceptions that have been tossed around in this thread as fact.

You know, the good news for guys who don't like D2, is that last I hear, Dozier can make knives out of other steels. So, if you really like it, and want one, call him and Dan up, and I am sure that they will be able to set you up.

On the other hand. D2 is simply steel, no more, no less. It is not super anything, just steel guys, just steel.

Nice knife there Ebb. I like both types of sheathes and D2 is among my favourites. Dozier makes a great package.

Thank you Danny.
If I get halfway to your skill level I'll be pretty darn happy.

Doc, it's obvious there is a lot of parroted internet misinformation out there.
Then again...
Some folks just have to chop you off at the ankles to make themselves feel taller.

ETA: MDP, they had the same knife in another new steel.
One that I had never heard of, I won't even try to guess at the letters.
Don't think I've seen it mentioned here at bf or anywhere else.
The same shape knife was also available with a flat grind.
I think this is some exciting stuff coming out of the shop.

ETAA I must type slow... thanx Phwl :)

Well I guess that makes you a professional on Kydex. Thank you for posting, I now know every time you say something. that it is with pure experience and great knowledge.

Good observations.

And Dozier is a class act, and they make good knives. I will be interested to see what other steels they are offering, and what other grinds, this has me interested, very interested.
