We are sold out to the dealer network for the standard production run but the dealers may have them still available to the customer.

Couldn't tell you since I don't know who all may be sold out. Go to our delars page and start hitting the links and asking is all I know to say.

You know readers could start a thread "DPx HEST/ Folder Wanted and post their names and let the dealers go get their business :)) I had a cancellation that was snapped up on the First Runs but I am happy to post a waiting list or post when we will get non payments and release those numbers. We will be asking for payment this week and then releasing the unpaid ones shortly thereafter. Working on the site software as we speak.

RYP,

do you know how durable the coating will be on the regular production model? what is it comparable to? black oxide? DLC? thanks.

So when will the production run come out? Is the counter on the DPX site, 47 days, for both production and first run? or is that counter for the first production models?

Ahh perhaps luck!

Any idea what dealer I can talk to that may still have a slot open?
Gentleman, I don't mean to sound like a turd; but it is as simple as picking up the telephone and dialing a dealers number to get on a pre-order list for the first run through the dealer network. :)

I just called two dealers to check and they both had slots open.

Hope this helps.......... ;)

RYP,

Depending when payment is requested, I may be out of email contact for 2 or 3 days. Will payment be expected immediately upon request being sent, or will there be a "grace period"??

In other words, I want my knives. :D

Do I need to make arrangements to pay immediately or will there be a "grace period" to send payments?

If so, what wll it be????

Just trying to cover the bases...... :D

The coating on the regular run knives is the flat black milspec you are used to seeing on military weapons. The blade is sandblasted to drop the luster and then engraved and then anodized to prevent corrosion even in the engraved areas. The finish will mark but is very difficult to wear off. The edge of course and continual sharpening the D2 tool steel will wear it off.

The Limited edition knife will be German D2 tool steel, sand blasted, engraved with MR DP pattern (there is also the sterile version that only has the number on the top of the blade) then sputter coated with a Titanium Carbide coating to harden the steel and is very difficult to wear off.

The Titanium on both knives is a medium grey tumble finish and looks very, very nice. We are just finalizing and pushing the button. Gianni has done a spectacular job and shown great enthusiasm for this project despite my micro managing every aspect of the production. Thom over at Monster Blade Works is hard at work weaving the 250 Afghan Commemorative Campaign lanyard for the First Run and the project is on schedule.

The dpxgear.com site will be accepting payments on October 20th We will add a reasonable time before posting those folks who can't pay and the post the available numbers.

I am very, very happy with the rapid deployment system. I always hated how you had to fumble with folders and then worry if your folder would collapse under extreme rapid use.

I can confirm that the DPx HEST comes out open and locked out of your pocket. Its really quite impressive.

glad to hear that the coating on the standard production knife will ward off corrosion.

The term "Parkerizing" or phosphating s probably more familiar. Its a Iron or Manganese Phosphate coating chemical conversion coating that adds 0.0002 to 0.0003 inches to the bladel for excellent corrosion resistance. Phosphating D2 tool steel provides superior corrosion resistance, lubricity and resistance to galling. The mil specs involved are
Mil Spec DTL-16232G and AMS2481F.

You can get the documentation here: http://www.everyspec.com/MIL-SPECS/MIL+SPECS+(MIL-DTL)/MIL-DTL-16232G_7533/

sounds good to me, i have more acidic hands so i tend to pit steel, even stainless ones, so hopefully this coating will mitigate that.

RYP, this knife sounds like it is going to be a real good one!! First time in a while I have been really super excited about one. I am on this one though.

I am very impressed with the specs you have quoted... very impressed!!!

I think you guys have a winner here.

Thanks also for the payment info...... :)

Best regards............ :)

PS / It just hit me exactly what you are talking about when you say this about the LE blade... "sputter coated with a Titanium Carbide coating".:eek::eek:

That is gonna be fantastic!!!!!

RYP Thanks for keeping us up to date on how things are moveing along... very impressed!!! .................
excited

RYP,

Thanks for keeping us updated. I can't imagine how much of a headache this all probably is.

Just a clarifying question. The way I read your post even though the sterile version won't have the engraving it WILL have the sputter coating...correct?

yes the knife and goodies are identical, the engraving is different. Some people like a clean knife and some know the heritage of Mr DP

Not a headache at all its important to communicate clearly with customers and fans. Look for the HEST and ESEE pimped in Popular Mechanics this spring.

I can't tell you how excited I am about this! I've carried the same knife every day for over 8 years because I was not willing to lose this feature. Don't get me wrong. I love my current EDC knife, but I'm really looking forward to retiring it for a H.E.S.T Folder!!!

Thank you for the updates!
