Is the video up yet?

If someone's life was on the line and a stick the size of what a sub 4" folder can baton was the thing threatening their life, I think I'd just stomp the stick in half

Yes,making a wedge instead of snapping a blade might be worth a minute or 2.
I carry a micro widgy or a box tool on my keychain, neither have moving parts to muck up.

I don't think you are going to be able to tap dance/ or use semantics to rationalize your way out of this misuse of a folding tool...

You would waste a minute or two to make a wedge with your knife when someone's life is in danger??? Your knife is worth more than a life? Are you really arguing this?

Wow what a cluster....
Once again "don't engage the lock when battoning a folder"
If you don't act like a Richard you won't get these responses.
I wouldn't baton my sebenza except if a life depended on it, and I would probably try making a wedge first.
Didn't the original post say dissappointing? Yet it's okay now after tightening ?? I just don't think one should post crap about a brand not lliving up then waffling. I wouldn't baton any folder for fun on 2x4's...then complain about a rattle. I doubt a rattle or off centered blad really affects the functionality of the blade, your probably not doing eye surgery.
I often use traditional slip joints and sdom hear this kind of whining about then em not holding up and most are pinned.

You would actually stop and take the time to make a wedge instead of risk ruining a pocket knife, when someones life hung in the balance? Wow.

Yes, I was dissapointed, but it wasn't better after tightening. I had to pysically alter the knife, by bending the lock bar.

My knife was never off center.

LOL :)

kawr, How did you get from "mucking around with 2X4's" to "someone's life is in imminent danger"?

The only thing I read in Superdave1's post was he wouldn't go around cutting 2x4's with a pocket knife. The "wouldn't do it even if there were imminent danger to life" seems to have come from Swamp thing, who is more and more sounding like a troll thing twisting people's posts around and muddying the water.

Somehow we also got from "I've got 14 Chris Reeve knives and I have been batonning Chris Reeve knives since I was 15" TO "I only did it because I saw Ryp do it."

I call BS.

When people are in critical condition, the first thing I do is drop down and start batoning wood with my folder. Lives must be saved.

Yes, the most important thing is kindling. Always. Oh, and fatwood. Don't forget the fatwood.

Seriously, if batoning is so important, carry a fixed blade. There are plenty of 4" fixed blades that will work just fine to baton.
I baton because it's fun, but the ONLY way I'd do it for a real reason is to get to dry wood in a wet forest climate. I've actually never HAD to do that.
At camp, I'm a firm believer in conserving my energy, and I usually just feed in long pieces of wood to a fire.

ETA: "I can do what I want with my knife," while absolutely correct, is not the same thing as common sense.

It's possible to baton folders just fine...but you have to have FLAWLESS technique and have the lock DISENGAGED. I've seen pics on the boards of folks batoning Opinels no problem, but they were very very careful and had disengaged the locking ring and were letting the handle hang under its own weight. It's something you CAN do...but you probably shouldn't if you have ANY other options available to you!

Yes the video is up. Hold on I will tell you how to find it. There are tons of reviews on this knife and it's hard to find

watched Ankerson baton folders all the time....ZT301 and the Strider SMF come to mind right of the top of my head as having 0 problems after battoning think the Emerson Commander did fine 2 the emerson and the zt are in the price range of this knife. I personaly use my Busse B11 for that kinda chore but, If I didnt have my busse and just a folder I would probably use that...

It's easiest if you Google "sevenedges YouTube" then look under videos there is only two. Took the other ones down. After noon today I'm no longer going to participate in this Thread. It's going nowhere. Thanks guys that helped out. I don't know why the dpx doesn't bend the lock bar over further. Maybe the rotoblock. Later guys. :)

yes they almost always are fine afterwards. The Hest went through six more 2x4s this morning and the lock is still 100% perfect. Anyone buying this knife will probably need to bend the lock bar inward.

Every person is entitled to their own stupidity, as long as they don't hurt anybody else in the process. If the OP wants to ruin his perfectly good folder, it's his choice. I kind of question the wisdom of bringing it up on this forum though. There's not much sympathy to be garnered here, if he wants to complain about it.

No, you see I have never ruined a folder doing this. Now that I bent the lock bar back where it should be it's fine. Better than new for sure, and there is a lot of lock bar surface left to wear, so it's in great shape. I did say in my first post I was dissapointed, only because knives costing half that much do fine at this. I then changed my mind (everyone is entitled to do that.) I really like this knife now. I am not looking for sympathy. That is way off base. Anyhow spend some time surfing through all the dpx hest/f videos if you want and see what you find. What I did was nothing. Heck, one dude threw his a tree several times, but hey it's his to do so with.

Thanks Reeek, you were very professional and helpful throughout this thread. I appreciate it. 95% of this thread was from my phone so I didn't see it. I will close it now.:)
