All I can say is that the money must be really good.

... like REALLY good. Even if this is being faked, it's just so stupid.

Its like i do with man vs wild nowadays its 90% garbage entertainment value with 10% actual good survival info

Like when they show you different plants and stuff you can eat , i kind of liked that pine tea bear showed us we can make

When my 8 year old lost interest in Man vs Wild show I fiigured it was time to stop watching that.
He would constantly comment that what Bear was doing was too dangerous and stupid.
At first the show did get both boys excited about going outdoors more, so it was a good thing.
I will watch the new season of Dual Survival, and hope that it dosen't show too much foolish behavior.

At some point, they all will turn absurd. Its the problem of keeping peoples interest. If a show was done on real survival, only folks interested in REAL skills, would tune in.

Doing crazy stuff, keeps people interested in the show.

All about the money.

wow, I cannot believe that...........I am blown away how stupid that was. I thought Cody had more sense from reading his books...:(

What dissapoints me is that people my age (mid to late 20s) are so easy to loose interest forcing them to go heavy on stunts low on practical info

Well, here is another way I see it, there used to be these things called books, and you used to read them, kinda like a Kindle, but only real paper and ink.

Knowledge used to be contained in books, and only through the effort of reading and turning paper pages, did you unlock the secrets within. I read a book once, called FIRST AID. It never talked about burning yourself with gunpower.

It talked about pressure, and clotting and natural blood coagulation. Now, if arteries get severed, forget it, your done, without a medic immediately right there, and even then, your chances are slim.

Those vids are stunts, designed to capture attention, and hold it through the next commercial. Then, they do it again.

Both of those guys know what they are doing, they are making money. Survival is just the topic, but they are making moo-la, dough, denero, the almighty green.

Its interesting, humorous, dramatic, and exciting, its entertainment.

Off my box, done with my rant, just offering up some opinion.

Looks like just another outdoors show to:

G'day EMT_Lee

..... But, most people have the common sense enough to avoid this type of behavior, to begin with.
I sincerly hope so

It would be a genuine worry if the people here started to cut themselves in the wilderness and said "sh!t!, I have a genuine survival situation here, that requires me to cauterise a wound" , irrespective of the fact that it will stop bleeding of it's own accord.

BTW for those emo's out there that want to try this and don't have access to either a sharp knife or gun powder, I would suggest you get your mate to use a couple of sticks (think chop sticks here) to pick up a coal from the fire & use this to cauterise the wound. :jerkit::jerkit::jerkit:

That way you won't have to worry about using a large wad of Spahgnum moss to prevent burning the skin either side of "the massive wound"

For those who are offended by my post. I offer no applogies.

It's about time they realise that the whole "survival concept" that has been marketed to the majority (who are looking for any excuse to soil their underware) has really become nothing more than a joke :thumbdn:

Kind regards
Mick

Now what sucks is that your goibg to have wannabe assho!es bossing people around in a real survival situation thinking they know everything

Me: "hey chad i think we should go this way."
Chad: " NO MORON! I learned this on man vs wild 2 years ago"

Cut to chad breaking his neck climbing a tree to see where he is

my guess is he/they are trying to show you what to do if you get cut real bad out in the wilderness and have no way of stopping the bleeding. Having no idea if this in fact will work (assuming it does) why it might be a handy piece of information down the road the problem they could have is if some kid sees this and decides he wants to try it by cutting himself then tapping into dad's gun powder supply, might not end well

OK, maybe this will help the people who think this is still a good idea in some situations:

I am a doctor and have dealt with many wounds in surgery and in the wild/street/ disaster situations. Using gunpowder to cauterize a wound is stupid on so many levels. First, it can damage deeper tissues and create a bigger problem than you had to start with. Burns affect more than just the surface. They can damage nerves and other structures that might be adjacent to the wound. Second, burned tissue is very susceptible to infection. Finally I will tell you that trying to cauterize large bleeding vessels is extremely dumb. It doesn't work well at all. They need to be clamped and tied off. Cauterization works very well for small bleeders in controlled settings and should be used by people who know what they are doing.

Cauterizing has it's place, but what they did is just plain dumb.

Not impressed, will never recommend this technique and am actually disgusted this was agreed to.

I was thinking about a CT challenge for Dave and Cody. Maybe they could hike up Schagticoke and molest one of the local rattlesnakes. After which hike back towards the 10-mile river lean-to then roll around naked in the tall grass in the hopes of picking up some Lyme disease infested ticks. Now that would be hard-core. :D
