Dual Survival

Agreed. I too watched [and liked the] Dave/Cody episodes more than the replacements and agree that their individualism got in the way.

But then again remember....Cody was the "hippie hiker" and Dave was fresh out of the military [ish]. The Military and hippies never really mixed well because there's always the angst between the two ideologies.

I mean, how many times did Dave make disparaging comments about Cody's barefoot choice? Tons. Knowing you can do something because you have the experience is one thing....but turning that into 'trust' that your survival partner can accomplish goals with [let's call it] "a handicap" is another matter.

Cody swore he'd turn Dave into a hippie....Dave scoffed at the idea.

Besides...If you watch Dave's YT channel, he appears to have turned into the hippie with boots. Cody was right???...LOL

:D There's a lot of truth here.

I wasn't a big an of Dave, but really enjoyed the show with he and Cody. Dave was much better than Joe. The drama between Dave and Cody could've been totally manufactured, who knows. If Dave's embraced some of what Cody brought to the table, that's a credit to him. Cody had some mad skills and only a fool would ignore that stuff because of ego.

I have been watching old Dual Survival episodes on Discovery Velocity, and Dave Canterbury comes across as rational and sociable, if a bit hard headed and driven. Cody Lundin on the other hand reveals a massive arrogant ego in early episodes. I can respect an individual with advanced and useful outdoor knowledge, but how you convey it to your partner goes a long way. Lundin was outright condescending to Canterbury many times. Share with a good heart, don't look down your nose and belittle your partner.

Honestly I think Dave started off as the antagonist and the condescending tone was a reaction to that so I don't think either were really innocent there. After watching that "behind the scenes" episode I think there was more going on behind the camera that probably led to that kind of thing as well.

In case no one has answered the question, I believe the knife is a modded condor jungle Bowie. I don't know if Matt cut it down himself or if condor did. But like many of you I do like Matt Graham quite a bit. I'm not a big fan of Joe Teti. I am pretty much of a hippie myself so I'm more of the Matt Graham Cody London school. I think Matt has an easy-going nature that can let Joe be joe. And Matt just doesn't seem to get upset. Cody definitely had an attitude at times, a little stubborn, like many experts are. He was confident in his own knowledge and ability.

The mellow drama that turns us folk off brings their ratings up, so we are all likely better off with documentaries or specialized media materials. There is enough conflict in the world without me overtly seeking it.

Oh, ok. I just catch the show whenever I'm surfing and it's there. Out of sequence, different cast members etc. Man there was some hard early head butting.

I haven't been catching much evening TV lately, so I've missed quite a few episodes. I wound up watching a couple repeats last night that I personally hadn't seen before. These must have been some of the later 2014 episodes. I found them interesting enough to watch for an hour plus...better than whatever else was on anyway.

I do note there is a 'new' episode scheduled to air this week, Wednesday I think. Interesting...if there is so much drama behind the questionable background of 50% of the two 'stars', one would think Discovery would yank it, unless there is a contractual obligation, licensing agreement, or something along those lines.

Either that or the viewership hasn't fallen off the cliff and it's still making $$, which trumps all.
