Dual Survival

Despite the personalities, and or their backgrounds, I catch the show when I can. I try to see what the show can teach me and I now disregard the rest. If I pick up one more scrap of insight or knowledge to supplement my book learning or personal experience, then the viewing was worthwhile. Yes, it is hard to look past the background noise and external drama at times. But I choose to focus beyond that. I have to make my own decision if the information conveyed is realistic\practical, and has uncommon sense for my own needs\interests. It's just TV anyway. :)

I am with you. It's entertainment after all. Still it appears the show is either cursed of a victim of overwhelming Karma.

Wouldn't it be funny if the hippies weren't real as well. Matt and Cody really dress in suits everyday working for the "military industrial complex".

It's a joke so all yea Cody or Matt supporters don't give me any guff. Yea, I am talking to YOU!

Now that's funny!!! :)

After watching reruns, I think they should bring back Dave and Cody. Regardless of how you feel about them, they had the best chemistry by far and seemed to genuinely like each other. As far as skills and knowledge, I think they are the best of the bunch so far. Nothing against Joe or Matt but it is just awkward watching how Discovery seems to want them to fight and have drama, I learned more from Dave and Cody.

Except now, when you look at Dave, he's become Cody but with shoes.

In the Lundin interview he says that Discovery called him a naturalist without his knowledge. I wonder if they were the ones who inflated Dave's credentials. When the truth came out they threw him under the bus. I agree that Dave and Cody should start another program with the two of them, although there are probably non compete clauses in their contracts which prevent it.

These networks don't want anything to do with truth and realism. Dave and Cody could probably do a pretty good instructional show together but that isn't what sells these days. Last night I was looking for something on youtube and came across that new Alaskan Bush People show.. That right there is what the corporate controllers want the general public to think about outdoor people. Just a cartoon with live people. Cody and Dave should do an internet only based project and screw those tv circuses.

But that ignores the money component. Both, and most other outdoor gurus are doing it for the money. Nothing wrong with that, but there has to be profit in it otherwise they hold down 9 to 5 jobs like everyone else to pay their bills.

Honestly? Are you still hung up on that script thing. Reality TV is REAL. Andrea The Giant R.I.P.

Of course "Pro" wrestling is the true apex of non reality tv, so forgive the semi correlated tangent. I remember seeing some blurb on the tube by that Hulk Hogan character. He said that you didn't want to pizz off Andrea The Giant because he would shove his thumb up your keister during a match if you did........... Hogan said that Andrea had a huge thumb........... I hope that your weren't eating.

Whether you're following a script or not anyone who can read people or see between the lines can tell motives, character, etc. because these people are not actors. They are not playing characters, they are playing themselves.
They aren't in survival situations either. It's TV, the idiot box. Fiction made to sell advertising.

This is great stuff! I can't believe this is an actual design. I need a bandaid just looking at it.
Again, it's from an idiot box fiction programming. What else would you expect?

Say it's not so... LOL! It must be Karma in action.

"Teti has faced far more controversy, however, including allegations that he misrepresents himself as a “combat veteran” despite never serving in combat while in the military."
The thing is that IF he actually worked in shadow ops, it will NEVER be made public. Therefore his claims cannot be validated, as the government will not disclose such activity, releasing them from any liability.
It's one thing to lie about military service (a dishonor to all who have and will serve), but maybe he should have toned down the Special Ops talk, or better yet, left it unsaid all together...
The thing is if he was a combat veteran, that WOULD be part of the public record. And it would be on his DD214. And, yes, regarding your "left it unsaid all together" comment --- that's especially true if you say or deliberately imply things and lead others top believe things about your service that are untrue.

I've watched several of the new episodes (2015) and I am favorably impressed with the level of knowledge imparted. Matt is doing a good job and Joe has tuned down his attitude a lot. Some interesting (not necessarily useful) information. I didn't have a clue that those electronic cigarettes had glycerol? in them. Anyway, adaptive programming at work?

I agree that the show is very entertaining, even though the show suffers from drama among the stars....

...but there's an issue in my mind, that it sets the "average" guy to think "hey...that doesn't look too hard so I think I can do that....therefore, I'm a survivalist!"

...and nothing could be further from the truth.

I'm 45 years old. In addition to being LE for over 25 years, I've been hunting, camping, long-hunting, hiking, woods/bush-crafting, et al for over 35 years....and I still don't know it all. I shared an experience where I got flipped out of my canoe in another thread that was extremely difficult even for me - and I've been doing this longer than many forumers here are even alive. The hardest thing for me was dealing with the automatic human reaction to panic. Believe me, I was NOT as calm as I appear to be [now]. I cannot express to you how desperate I felt. That whole, "building a fire helps raise your spirits" comment we always hear?.........is complete and utter BS.

The show is a controlled issue. The two 'stars' always have support, be it camera crew or a medic on stand-by. As he states it, Cody Lundin was ultimately fired over safety issues he raised [as well as likely, the full-blown arguments with his "partner"] about the show.

There's no control in a personal experience outside what you can hope to muster. Mother Nature controls everything, you only control what your fading faculties allow you to. Your mind plays tricks on you. Many people suffer hopelessness so badly they literally 'lose the will to live.'

That doesn't happen on a show where you have 5-10 people stalking your every move with a camera and backpacks full of camera batteries and sammiches.

In the swamp episode 'survival expert' Joe T. demonstrates how to use a knife and ferro rod by striking the rod with cutting edge while holding the knife with fingers over the edge...
The knife had pretty aggressive swedge running most of the blade's length...

Yea, these safety lapses occur in most of these shows. Les Stroud sharpened one of his knives by sharpening towards the edge.

Yep...that's him

I have been watching old Dual Survival episodes on Discovery Velocity, and Dave Canterbury comes across as rational and sociable, if a bit hard headed and driven. Cody Lundin on the other hand reveals a massive arrogant ego in early episodes. I can respect an individual with advanced and useful outdoor knowledge, but how you convey it to your partner goes a long way. Lundin was outright condescending to Canterbury many times. Share with a good heart, don't look down your nose and belittle your partner.

Agreed. I too watched [and liked the] Dave/Cody episodes more than the replacements and agree that their individualism got in the way.

But then again remember....Cody was the "hippie hiker" and Dave was fresh out of the military [ish]. The Military and hippies never really mixed well because there's always the angst between the two ideologies.

I mean, how many times did Dave make disparaging comments about Cody's barefoot choice? Tons. Knowing you can do something because you have the experience is one thing....but turning that into 'trust' that your survival partner can accomplish goals with [let's call it] "a handicap" is another matter.

Cody swore he'd turn Dave into a hippie....Dave scoffed at the idea.

Besides...If you watch Dave's YT channel, he appears to have turned into the hippie with boots. Cody was right???...LOL
