Man, this thread feels like a movie... i wasn't sure what was going on here, and i was keeping myself clear of any conclusions until the very end, where it seems that he is a scammer after all. The only chance for you guys getting something out of it is a suit or something official like that. The authorities can auction the machinery and reimburse the customers.

Undelivered knives from 2012/2013? Come on... At least now he's using eBay and people are getting their money back...really smart move...

No matter the reputation someone carries, i would never pay anything in full in advance. Not even half of it. I don't know what is other people's take on this, but to me, this practice is illogical and even absurd. I mean you have nothing to show for it..not a contract, nothing.
Don't get me wrong, you have to show faith to other people as you would expect it the other way around, but a full payment up front is just not realistic. The seller will have to have faith in me that i will buy the item i have ordered and i will have to trust in his word that he will get it done in the promised time frame and in the promised/advertised quality.
25-75usd (hell, even 100 dollars, depending on the selling price) deposit/non-refundable sounds great and more than enough...after all, in the case the buyer changes his mind the knife will be sold elsewhere, especially if the maker has made a name for himself. Whereas, if the seller decides to pull something off, i would be out only the deposit (not that it makes it alright but much better than having paid the full 1000 dollars)

@SweFanBladez tough one man but I hope you'll manage to get something back from all this mess. Being elsewhere than US makes it more difficult to proceed with a law suit.

Circa 5/2013, Dwaine's shop was totalled by a tornado.

I had had smooth deals with Dwaine until this point and wanted to help him out. Remember this, Dwaine?

Well, I placed a large pre-payment an order. YEARS of bullshit have since ensued.

So, Dwaine, f@ck you dude. You shat on my kindness. Come up with whatever reason, whatever whatever ailment.

Below is my last email from Dwaine from 11/20/18 - now any emails I send him get bounced. My emails always get put into a random folder or spam - whatever bullsh!t that Dwaine dreamed up.

I lost somebody very close to me to pancreatic cancer, so I was empathetic and really hesitant to question anything. Dwaine's line of bullshit is convincing, but it's bullshit nonetheless.

I'd like to believe that Dwaine isn't crooked, but there certainly is a pattern here. Happy to post the emails and litany of excuses and reasons over the past 6 years.

And I just saw this one, lol. Went right into some random folder, I apologize for the late response. Yes, I’m doing MUCH better, finally found the cure and I’m getting better every day.

I finally sold a piece of property (we are still negotiating it, but I’m 100% sure it’s a done deal) I’ve been trying to sell for some time now. I’m going to refund everyone I’m making back order knives for plus interest, including you. I’m finally healing up from this disease, but I’m tired. It has sucked the life out of me for over two years, but I finally found the cure. I’m not going to finish these backorders, I’m just going to refund everyone’s money. I’m too mentally exhausted and need a break.

It may be a few weeks to a month before I actually get the cash, so please don’t say anything to anyone. I don’t want everyone blowing up my emails just yet, lol. If you hear anyone out there bad mouthing me, feel free to chime and let them know something huge is about to happen for everyone I owe knives to, but don’t say anything other than that.

I’m going to take a few months off, then I’m buying another piece of property with a home already on and building a new shop and coming out with some new models and making a brand new fresh start. It’s been hell, but it is finally over.

Thank you so much for your help after the Tornado, I appreciate it more than you know. Sorry I didn’t get these blades finished, I had to beat Pancreatic/Colon Cancer, the got hit with Dermatomyositis. It took me a year to learn to run this CNC, and the last 5 years have been hell, literally.

Sorry for the inconvenience I’ve caused you and everyone else, but it’s finally over, thank God.

When I get the new shop setup I’ll build you something special.

Dwaine

Wow...he beat pancreatic and colon cancer? Hope Sloan-Kettering and the City of Hope have his contact info.

You tried to help what you thought was a human being in need, you got screwed by a pathological liar.

My GOD, have you all seen how many knives this guy is selling on Arizona Custom Knives now?!

They're all listed as "previously owned". Probably listing them under an alias or having someone else do it for him. They all look brand new.

I hate to be so cynical or think badly of the man because I do have a Carrillo blade, but the same thought went through my mind.

When 10 knives that all look brand new flood ACK all at the same time it makes me question what is going on. I might be wrong, but it seems that "retiring" to drive up the cost of knives, then giving them to family or friends to sell on consignment online would be a handy little scam.

Of course, I am not saying this is what is going on, but...sheesh. There are active, currently producing makers with far fewer blades (in new, perfect condition) being sold online than this "retired" maker now, and not just on ACK.

I just took a look over at ACK. As has been said before they all look brand new. New lock system and all. I say the "Previously owned" classification is horse shit. Mr. " I've got an incurable affliction" is selling them under an Alias. Hard to believe ACK is accepting these. They should suspect something is amiss.

They don’t give a rat’s posterior. Their job is to sell knives and make a commission on those sales.

The only thing that would stop them is if enough customers voiced their concern and then boycotted ACK for it to affect their bottom line.

To be fair it isn’t up to them to suss out the provenance of each knife they sell. They could think anything when 10 “used” knives are listed with them at once. They might just think some Carillo collector is liquidating his collection.

PETRUS BLADE In 2014, I ordered and paid 2 knives directly from an American knifemaker and never got them. later I wanted to buy one again through a dealer. Then I changed my mind and thought "F ** k you Carrillo!" And I used the money to buy tools and materials ...

Just adding my name to the list, keep seeing stuff on AZ and just saw someone selling a blade on Instagram. His old Cox email doesn't bounce but he hasn't been in contact since 2018. I remember folks from this forum with pitchforks when dealers/individuals were screwing folks over but Dwaine seems to have continued what he is doing....

I feel sorry for people who own his stuff- You couldn't give me one and I'd never buy one off the secondary market.

just found this I paid Carrillo $1200 in 2010 and nothing for 10 years

In the last 2 weeks a number of his knives have been listed on ACK. On one day at least 6 were listed, many similar or the same.

These are obviously directly from him. He is not filling his orders rather supplying dealers directly with knives. Pure profit as people like you financed his production.
