Ebay #190066504405 GDOT Barlow,Prices are rising!!

With insurance, the shipping is fair. And it is a very small percentage of the cost. The only thing that worries me is she doesn't accept Paypal. Paypal offers another level of protection for the buyer.

...I agree Waynorth each one I have takes longer as I get older and represents 10 to 15 I wont have mate.. and I tend to enjoy it more....but it doesn't count if you're on your own......whoa we still talkin knives here or what???
Seriously the only problems I have had with sellers have been sellers who wont accept Paypal and sometimes I dont see it till I have bid. You cant prove exactly when they received the money order so cant work out if they should reasonably have posted. Then they say they havn't received it and you try and check with your local Post Office but the money order doesnt come back to them anymore so you have to put in a claim to their Head Office...etc without Paypal its all too hard these days.. oops there I go again!! Hoo Roo

Well I'm sending the money today, and requesting a return receipt (signature). It's too much money to dick around, I mean fool around, with. I can't wait till that knife comes, errr gets here! I hope the administrators of this site have a good sense of humor!! Hoo Too!

Larry, I received my Grand Dad's Old Timer Barlow today, 23 days after the end of auction. I have to admit, I was starting to sweat it out. I was wondering if the seller was having second thoughts about shipping it, seeing the current prices these knives are going for. All kinds of things were running through my mind, did it get lost in shipping, stolen off my porch. I too am a clueless newbie as far as Schrade collecting goes, I certainly did not want to go back into the ebay ring if this one did not arrive. I have passed on these many times seeing how there were so many made, had them in my sites, but there was always something else I just had to have. It all worked out, the U.S.A. G.D.B.I. is in MINT condition and very welcome here at home with all the other Schrade Family members.

Scott

I will keep this ongoing saga up to date, unless too many people object!
Well, the envelope with the money order was delivered, and signed for by the right person. Yet she hasn't answered any of my 4 emails. You would think a word or two to the buyer would be appropriate, given it is a fairly expensive knife.
More later.............

And by the way, what odd tourist items does Texas offer? 'Dillo meat in cans? Size DDD training bras with Dallas Cowboys logos? Gotta be something better than the "weather rocks" on strings (windy if it is swinging, raining if it is wet, tornado if it is gone) and "hillbilly toilet paper" kits with three corncobs.

G'Day Scotty thats great news about your Barlow mate really happy for you we dont want you turning all cynical on us...like me....
Waynorth hope it works out I have previously told you how the only times I've been burnt were with Money Orders never Paypal..hey she's a lady mate she'll do the right thing!!!!!
Scotty there is another GDOT Barlow on the go at the moment #140072291184 with nearly 3 days to go already 14 bids @US$152.50 and rising..so you did well mate the other one wasn't just an abberation.
I won a GDOT Sharpfinger Box set today to complete my total set and had to pay far more than intended because of clown snipers. Check it out #140071332108 @ $126.98 with final $50 odd bidding in last minutes with the big bazooka only 8 seconds to go raising $30 odd. My Koala bear trap saved the day for me with this clown who also happened to be a fellow Aussie. I can see he has won his last 4 auctions with big clear outs in final 5 seconds with no previous bidding. I particularly wanted this set so he achieved nothing except making me pay more..I have it, he doesnt. If I run into him again he'll be in for an interesting time. These GDOT Sharpfingers just arent coming up as much as they used too but isnt this true of all quality or unusual old Schrade stock. ........snipers I can smell'em mate! Hoo Roo

...and another thing you guys are supposed to be asleep while Im awake and visa versa....bloody snipers dont even go to bed..they sit up through the night waiting to get me...waiting to get me...waiting to get me... you will tell me if I'm starting to sound paranoid....waiti.......Hoo Roo

Congratulations on completing the set Larry. Considering that the G.D.O.T. knives are now more than thirty years old, and were produced in fairly limited quantities, you did well. The fact remains that to you the last one was worth more than it was to ten million other people worldwide is beside the point. The same is true when I give $25 for a sharpfinger user. Or give eight for an 8OT. Whether you bid the sky early on, or held your bid to the last minutes or seconds is really a moot point. One reason you will seldom see me quoting knife values here is the fluidity of the market. We each have our own idea as to what a particular knife is worth, and depth of the pocket, and desire to own that individual knife.

Years ago, I decided to get a 160OT Mountain Lion, a cousin to the 165OT. Wow! They were selling for a lot of money, at least compared to my own opinion of their value. I'm talking $120-160 in December 2004. By watching and waiting two weeks, I got a really nice user for $22.50. And ten days later I got one NIB for $46.00. The "I-want-it-now-itus" can cost us money, but I suppose we all do it at some point. I guess the trick is to "average down", for instance add the cost of all the knives in your G.D.O.T. set, then divide by four. It will make you feel better.

Fair comment mate...I guess I feel the same about snipers as I do about supermarket parking spots....you know when you wait for the person to reverse and they have their reversing lights on and they scratch their nuts pull in the anchor and take for ever and when they eventually reverse some clown comes from the opposite direction and straight in to your park not simply because they can, but I suspect they really enjoy their fleeting moment of ""power"".I cant do that to a person by nature.
Seriously I can not find production numbers for the GDOT series in any of my Commemorative Knife books or indeed in the previous forum postings. Any idea? Thanks,Hoo Roo

Well, I wouldn't steal your parking spot Larry, but I bid on this Remington your way as an experiment, and it cost me more than if I had sniped it.

grizzly and je1689 slowly nudged my visible bid up near $100. I think it cost me about $30 and possibly $50 extra. If I buy any more (have you heard about the new bidder1,2,3 policy:barf: ?) I'll snipe 'em.

...they were not produced in equal numbers for all patterns. I believe the GDOT 1 stockman was nearly 20,000, and the GDOT-2 Stockman was about 15,000.

Michael

Larry, you got these two, right? I'm still working on finding best numbers for the other two.

Michael

It's a newfangled way to keep bidding private, but allows you to SEARCH for certain info. It's an unnecessary complication; after all it is a PUBLIC auction!
Here is a thread about it!
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=446940

I saw it yesterday after I lost the auction with the 10 knives. And one other time. Is it being used on a trial basis? Is there a place to vote on it? If so, I'd vote like the vomitting smiley.
